The one thing that is 100 per cent certain that when the Coronavirus is finished, it won't be the banks or the rich and powerful that have to pay for it. It will be the poorest, as usual. Austerity will be back, but ten times worse.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Dreading this mate.

The poor are paying for is now, with the 80% subsidy of wages etc, which is fair enough and applaud it, but now the super rich asking for a slice of the pie - which if you recall it was capped by Austerity, and once hopefully soon, CoronaVirus is gone, it will be again the poor who will take the brunt of it all.

Punished before CoronaVirus, during it and after it.

I don't get it why we just know all this and just obey these super rich?

Make the welfare system as progressive as possible. Poorest, disadvantaged should be given top priority. Corporates should not be subsidized at any cost, at most government should lent money in return for shares and ownership. This ensures tax payer return in form of dividend and increased accountability of corporates.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's corporate socialism. We've been voting for it for decades now.

People keep trying to tell us and we do not listen.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This.

The corporate welfare budget has been above 90bn a year since the tories took power.

People only have a problem now there's a 300bn lump sum they have already had more than double that out of the taxpayer.

And where's the rage about the rails? Told we couldn't afford to renationalise them under corbyn, told it would cost too much, even when labour said it would cost anything "LIES" they shouted.

Now boris just suspended their franchises to renationalise the losses over the next few months, in an industry where the taxman pays for all the infrastructure bar the staff salarys.

Now we are paying that too, and giving the companies money for running the service. We get a right facking up the arrrse from our beloved blue overlords.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The "we're all in this together" and the stiff upper lip ticks me off at times like this.

Three months ago the country voted for "me and mine" and now it's all aboard the socialism train and the TBAB "lets all be best friends again" line while collectively we've been actively choosing to feck over others for our perceived benefit directly or indirectly.

The individualism that is inherently American, rooted in a capitalist dog eat dog world, has permeated throughout Western (predominantly) society. Many, but functionally very few at the top have benefited, now society reaps what has been sowed.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Agree totally and on every count (as always) the tory party in its current guise, with its current policies should be getting 1% of the vote.

The rest of them are just self sabotaging their aspirations.

Wealth is best shared from the bottom up, so companies can still make vast profits, whilst people enjoy their lives

I wonder, just out of interest, if anyone read the whole article on the BBC News website on Virgin seeking bailout money.

It appears that Branson has offered to put 250 million into the Airline since the crisis started. Now that may seem like a pittance compared to his net worth but you have to remember his 4 billion net worth isn’t cash in the bank,

It also says that he may go to the Government so I will assume he hasn’t done. The other thing that was being suggested is the Govt offer 7.5 billion to the Airline industries , not just Virgin, as a credit facility.

Now if that were the case I assume the Airlines would be expected to pay it back at some date.

In the same article the transport secretary stated that current shareholders have to be a part of the solution.

The Government are looking after James Dyson even though he deserted the country after championing Brexit.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/news/dyson-headquarters-brexit-uk-singapore-hq-move-hoover-vacuum-a8740996.html
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Again, if people have an issue with Dyson stop buying his products. Shark make the exact same Hoover as his at a quarter of the price. And it works just as well.
-----------------------------------------------------------
The point is that instead of working with our European neighbours, the Government handed a huge contract to build ventilators to one of it's chief backers who's now based on the other side of the planet.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Where will Dyson be making them?

Flybe didn't get a bail out so I don't see why Virgin Atlantic should.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
how come Virgin's staff have to take unpaid leave or whatever...are they not eligable for 80% of their wages on the furlough scheme...?

Mind you they're probably all on fackin zero hours contracts

I got a letter off Halifax this morning telling me they're going to charge me for my Instant Saver account unless I put £1,500 a month in it.

Unlikely considering I'll probably be off work for the next 3/4 months.

The money he puts in probably won't be cash in the bank either, but a loan leveraged against the assets.

I would have no problem if it was arranged interest bearing loans from the government based on BoE base rate.

If we couldn't foot the bill for half this much at the election to OWN capital assets then we can't afford it as a giveaway to prop up shareholders now.

we were going to move our money out of our Santander 123 accts in May as they were dropping their interest rates...doesn't seem a lot of point now

These were paying 3% a month 5 years ago, now 1.5 & dropping again

Just read that there could be up to 1 Million Brits stranded abroad.

Surely the Government could deploy some of the grounded aircraft and crews to repatriate them like other countries are doing.

Although a few more eyes have finally been opened to just how this world works , sadly we’re all in our little tribes and echo chambers so there is zero chance of people collectively saying enough is enough and let’s all work together towards something better for everyone.
It’s too late.

This is the article on Branson.

It is quite a good read all the way through if you are willing to get past the headline which, sadly, quite a few are not.

Outstanding effort Aaron!! Knighthood on its way.

your average plane holds what...500 passengers, & you'd have have to halve that for contamination spacing then they would have to get permission to land in these countries,

I'd agree we should be looking to get some back from the more far flung places where lives might be in danger...but it's a huge ask

Space travel is not an important matter atm. All the money on adventures such as that should be invested into healthcare and fighting corona. We don’t need to go to mars right now

Neither is football, don’t see the pl or clubs doing very much. If the guys in the op are bad what are pl clubs doing? Token gestures?

++

Its because we 'have' what we have because the rich have allowed us to have it. It's the 'drip down' that Disraeli's One Nation Conservatism is based on. Every so often when times are good the wealthy reward the 'masses' and pass on part of their wealth mainly with politically charged incentives (tax breaks and spending on public projects) to keep them sweet. In bad times they then take it all back again and more, until the good times come back for them, (just like austerity). It's a viscous circle that many seem to be thankful for and accept without questioning.

And they KEEP VOTING FOR IT

Poland is using their national airline (LOT) to repatriate their citizens, including ones in the UK.

My mate, who's stuck out there says they're leaving Warsaw for England empty and coming back full.

Apparently our Government aren't cooperating with the Poles to try and establish a reciproical agreement.
