Uefa President: Season could be over

It is inevitable.

By the end of April there will be 100,000+ dead, 500,000+ seriously ill, and many more to come.

Anyone at that point that thinks completing this season even remotely matters is twisted.

Just cancel this season, focus on what really matters, and start afresh on the Autumn.

And what happens to the £billions Sky and BT have pumped into the PL if it doesn’t complete? Does that void their contract? Will the PL pay them back?

There is a much bigger issue going on in the world right now, but with the economy set to tank I can’t see Sky/BT happy to throw away such a huge investment.

Just focus on what's important, wait until it blows over and complete this season before the next one.

Sorry but they'll just have to take the hit like every other man an his dog is at the moment.

People all over the place are losing their livelihoods yet the fat cats of Sky and BT are a special case are they?

posted on 28/3/20

They won't take the hit unless they absolutely have to. They can avoid taking a hit by completing the season when possible.

As I've stated before, the most reasonable, logical and legally sound option is to complete the league when possible. All other options cost two arms and three legs!

They're facing legal action over cancelling the non professional leagues. If they cancel the top divisions then they better be ready. Finishing the season is the only way to make sure nobody is left crying and sueing. No complains after that. Make it clean.

posted on 28/3/20

No one wants to take a hit at all but in this extraordinary time people are having no choice - they're going to have to suck it up like everyone else, who in most cases are less fortunate than they are!

For the record I'm not convinced this season will be a write off as yet anyway!

posted on 29/3/20

OK but why at this time should they have to do that? Are they out of options? They can always complete the league when possible/if possible and that would solve the conundrum. Hopefully this can happen soon as it would mean that we have overcome this pandemic.

Stop being so negative, hopefully things will get better soon, this season will continue and they will play behind close doors, we are just not sure when that will be.

At this time the plan is that the season will complete at some stage.

However if it doesn't what makes Sky and BT a special case that they shouldn't lose money when virtually everyone on the planet is being affected in some way?

Sky and BT have already made huge money from showing the PL this season so I don’t get your point.

By the way I’m in favour of playing out this season.

Who says they won't lose money?

Too early to start that kind of speculation. There is nothing to indicate that they won't lose money when others will. They are losing money as we speak, they could have lost billions already by now. Or does losing money only count when the season is cancelled and Liverpool don't have a title?

They are not getting any special treatment and I don't know why all of a sudden you are acting like you're sure they will.

Just wait to see how this develops, decisions will be made when more info is available.

Why does it make sense to start another season if it doesn't make sense to finish the last 9 games of the previous one?

Unless football is suspended for ever then the season gets completed...

Just listen to what the President of Uefa says.

No restart by June and season is expunged from record books

Exactly.
What happens if UEFA voids this season's champions league and Europa league and also cancels next season's competitions?
The football association's of every country in Europe will have grounds to void their seasons with NO repercussions of being sued. In this Country it will only upset 3 teams 1 in the premier league and 2 in the championship.

How does playing behind closed doors help anyone but the richest Premier League Clubs?
What about the other 220 Professional Clubs in England that cannot survive without gate money?
What about the 100+ People needed to play bcd being exposed?
Are the games to be played with defenders not allowed within 6 feet of attackers?
Are they to play without medical Professionals at the stadium or...

And seriously, what about the fans? When did we stop mattering?

With the threat of media giants like Amazon, Netflix, Facebook and YouTube all desperate for a slice of the pie, I'm not sure either Sky or BT would be foolish enough to seek damages against the Premier League, well not unless they think showing Rugby Union, Darts and Wrestling will be enough to get them through the rest of this decade.

I didn't say they haven't or won't, I was just reacting to someones inferred hypothesis about them challenging for compensation if the league were to be cancelled and questioning why they thought they would have have a case for legal action if it were!
