So does Ralph Lauren but I don't want him either

Great player, but his recent injury record does actually make him a questionable purchase based on the amount he would cost.

Agree entirely with the op. He could turn out to be a great signing. But my gut feeling is that we have already seen the best of him and that he will average about 30 starts per season in all comps from now on. I hope I am wrong, irrespective of whether he sign him, as he is a top player and seems to be a nice bloke. But his ankles are a real worry.

This OP will go the following way:

Select group of Spurs Fans: Why would he take a step down and join United?

Certain United fans: Because United are a far bigger club with more pulling power and they can pay him money Spurs can only dream of offering him.

Certain Spurs Fans: He wont take the step down and around we go.

Personally as an outsider I think for the money involved it could be spent better elsewhere. Kane is a fine striker but I think he is suffering from burnout and overplaying and his injury record is starting to stack up.

It's gonna be a wrench for Kane to leave Spurs if and when it happens- the only way I see him going through with it is for a team that can offer him challenges at the top trophies straight away.

To be brutally honest, United can't offer that currently, and don't look like doing so for at least a couple of years. If you're not in the CL next season, it's an absolute non- starter.

Before some idiot replies to this post saying the usual "pay him enough he'll make the move", I highly doubt it applies in this case.

Add in the doubts from United's side, I'd be amazed if it happened.

I’d love Kane. But it won’t happen as Spurs won’t sell to us.

The fee would be extortionate even by Eds standards

I think point 1 wouldn’t be a problem if he was at a club who didn’t rely on him to play every 90 mins of every game in virtually every competition for seasons running
A normal club might not bring him back from injury too soon, or allow him to say he’s fit when he isn’t
They may also in their infinite wisdom have a couple of other players in the same position just in case an outlandish thing like injuries happen or he needs a rest to be at his best.

Would have to be silly money to get him off Levy tho

Yea, Kane will only go to an elite club. Madrid is the likeliest destination for him.

He needs to leave as soon as he can. We're a complete shambles and he's wasting his career with us if he stays another couple of years. But unfortunately for him Levy won't sell for anything other than stupid money and he has a long contact.

Lack of sell on with his age/injury record and the ridiculous price furlough chops Levy will demand will mean he’s off to Spain if he goes anywhere I would think

Irish, yep but I think Levy would just be such a caaaant about it and not sell to us. Could see him going to City to replace Aguero.

Outside that I think Levy will put most other clubs off signing him. Maybe Juve might go for him in a year or two when he’s not got as long on his contract.

No chance City will be buying him

I am one of the few that sees him remain at Spurs or maybe go to PSG to replace one of Mbappe/Neymar when they go.

I am with the OP, he is a fine player but not for already listed reasons and more, it is a no-go.

So, as a rumour, it is one I give short thrift to.

posted on 8/4/20

Why? You’re gonna need a striker and homegrown players. Doesn’t mean they will sign him because there are other issues that complicate a signing like that.

Talking of contracts I wonder whether some clubs are nervous of reducing the salaries for these players in case it triggers some kind of 'break' in their contract?

Rashford, Kane and Sancho would be a fine front three for club and country

I would avoid.

Diafol, I guess it’s possible. It doesn’t appear that they’re given pay cuts without their approval.

I don't rate Kane as highly as others, but I don't think Martial is fit to lace Kane's boots if I'm honest.

I was just wondering. I know it's at a much lower level but they had to give us one extra day's holiday to change our wages from weekly to monthly at a previous job. Although I guess with some footballers this 30% will come from playing bonuses and so on.

I do think it stupid to reduce their wages though as the government seems to want. That's less tax being paid! Much better allowing them to donate what they can.

Kane always plays, no matter what, even when not fit, carrying a knock etc. Perhaps if Spurs had more options, he wouldn't pick up the injuries. He'd be an outstanding signing for United but I can't see him leaving Spurs to go to United, certainly not at this point. His statement about wanting to win trophies would back this up. In his mind, he'd want to do that with Spurs but if they don't show the ambition, he'll likely move to a club who are competing for trophies. For me the only English club I could see signing him is City. Therefore he'd likely go abroad if he does move. I don't think that will happen however.

I also disagree that United don't need to spend big on a top striker. Yes, a right sided player is a priority, as is another centre back and perhaps a left back. Replacing Pogba.

However you also need a striker, if Rashford is not going to play that role. I believe he could be a top player in that role. Martial isn't good enough to be the main striker at a top club.

Ighalo is a better option than Kane for United

Difficult to compare as professional football contracts will be incredibly forensic. I think the pay cut is on basic pay as well, but I don’t know for sure as there’s not enough details. I think it’s better if they make donations for sure. But I think it’s hard to look at it across the board as there’s a massive difference in wages and club capabilities to pay them. Needs to be looked at on a case by case basis rather than a blanket reduction.

Best striker in the world and incredible what he did at the world cup if we get him. Overrated tap in and penalty merchant that scored some shiiite goals against the Maldives at the world cup if we don't. I don't watch him play.
