I'm right wing and I won't criticise the government who are trying to beat this, although I ll concede they've done a pretty bad job of it. The word flat footed comes to mind. Too reactive instead of proactive.

I won't criticise them but-
They've done a bad job
They've been caught flat footed
They've not been proactive.

When you have a back story and history like the Tories - from war after war to taking working class kids milk. What do you expect.

Because people are thick and being gaslighted.

Tory propaganda is strong.

But let give them a clap at 8pm. Meanwhile every MP was given a £10k allowance so they could WFH.

Obscene.

Anyway once this is all over and I cannot wait for that day, it will be interesting to see Europe, USA and Chi-Na bend over Boris backwards for these amazing trade deals we were promised with Breco. LOL

The thing is the government still say they followed the science and went for the herd immunity approach first, which is fine.
But since it backfired dramatically, they should show the data and any evidences they have that push them to go with that approach. But they just blindly refused to publish the data which doesn't really help their case.

Oh look another leftie spurs fan. Where do you breed this lot?

And how despicable using thousands of deaths to point score on politics
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The OP doesn't mention any political leaning, just points out that the government has done a terrible job thus far.

Stop being such a touchy Tory, and just admit that they are right.

Tompkins posting his usual rubbish. Nothing at all to do with scoring political points, it is pointing out that this Government have made some serious mistakes. They have to be held to account, or is that to hard for you to comprehend?

The entire western world were poorly prepared for this pandemic and have nearly all suffered the same problems this government has. Were Italy and Spain any better prepared than us? Look at the US - they are digging mass temporary graves in New York State
---------
Except that the UK had a 3 weeks warning and decided to go with the herd immunity approach first.
3 weeks head start it is not negligible and a lot could have been done.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No they went for containment and then delay. Herd immunity wasn’t an official strategy - it takes about 2 years to achieve. Pretty much everyone had a head start on Italy - who themselves had a head start on China.

Truth is 3 weeks was never enough time for countries to source the PPE kit and scale the testing accordingly - that kind of planning takes months. No one was adequately prepared - but the objective of keeping the nhs under capacity has so far been maintained. Not saying there weren’t mistakes but we certainly aren’t alone

HanCOCK said the the other day we are well stock but logistics (I assume he means distribution) is the problem. That's assuming you believe him when he says we are well stocked in the first place.

For me it's not so much the death count, but the fact they had seen what happened to Italy then Spain first and didn't react. That's just negligent.

Wasn't it something like 10 days prior to lockdown they advised people not go to the pub? You're the facking government, if people should not be going to the pubs, shut them, don't flake, allow the virus to spread then close them once the horse has bolted.

Shambles.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Mr Cummings wanted lockdown a week at least before we did, but Boris and others said no...mistake imo.

It's a hard call locking 67 million down and watching folk suffer, and we are already seeing people crying, how long will this last after 3 weeks.

You can't win with the public, and Tories will never win with the far left, no matter what they do.

Which is politics, but I reckon no govt anywhere is ready for a new virus, are they?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

When you say far left mate, are you talking about normal Labour supporters who are questioning why there are:

Not enough Testing
Not enough PPE
Letting football and events like Cheltenham carry on, when the virus was already with us
Prime Minister shaking hands with people with the Virus, when he supposed to be setting an example

Nah, it's worse than that, mate. Once it was obvious that it wasn't the right path to take, Hancock came out trying deny it was ever the plan.

They're a complete shambles.

He came on GMB trying to say herd immunity wasn’t the governments plan in the first place, and then they played a clip 3 weeks earlier of a government minister who said that was the plan to tackle this virus

There is a full interview with BJ on good morning Britain in which he talks about herd immunity strategy. If coming from the PM himself doesn't make it official, then what can?
3 weeks might not have been enough but then why wasting them doing almost nothing ? Or why wait wasting the last 2 weeks asking the like of Dyson and Co to make ventilators when almost everyone knew it will be unlikely they will managed to make such a complex apparatus in such short time?

It’s so easy to be wise in hindsight.

This is unprecedented in our lives, however South Korea has had experience of Bird flu and SARS and was somewhat prepared for this type of event.

I don’t believe the Chinese death numbers at all, probably 10s of thousands higher than published.

We have the 2nd highest population in Europe on a relatively small island so it’s likely we will have a higher death rate

We have the same distribution and logistics nonsense being trotted out up here. Put simply...it's a lie.

If you have a logistics or distribution problem these days you solve it. You go to Amazon and they'll solve it for you in 24 hours or you get a couple on guys in on contract.

What are the problems-

Shortage of trucks?
Shortage of trains?
Shortage of drivers?
Shortage of aircraft?
Shortage of pilots?
No landing slots?
Maybe the road system is snarled up?

Ffs there has never been an easier time to distribute anything.
