That Archie Gemall (?) one.
I know the jocks need something to cling onto, but it's nothing that special.
Wilshere vs Norwich, a couple of lucky flicks and people were setting themselves (mainly Arsenal fans) when it was woeful defending, 2/3 lucky touches and completely usurped by Kasami’s absolute peach.
Rooney’s overhead for obvious reasons.
The majority of halfway line goals as well except for Figueroa’s.
Always though Bergkamp spin vs Newcastle looked unintentional and messy (he essentially fouled the defender to get control of the ball again). His goal vs Argentina was a hundred times the better goal.
I love both the ronaldinho goals though
Bergkamp Vs Newcastle, it’s just a flick
Have to disagree on Wilshere vs Norwich, love watching that goal.
I have to say I kinda agree on Bergkamp’s Newcastle goal..I still see it as a great and fantastic goal, I wouldn’t say I’m underwhelmed by it in the same way as the other goals I put but it does have a scrappy feel to it, like he’s not totally in control (even if he actually is in total control).
Have to disagree on the Ronaldinho vs Chelsea in 2005. The nonchalance and the total surprise is what makes it (though it's also technically difficult). The signature thing about Ronaldinho was how spontaneously inventive he was, more than any other recent player I can think of. He was a player he did things few of us would even imagine, let alone execute, and at the same time (in his short peak) deploying these feats of imagination to solve concrete problems on the pitch, not just to show off. The perfect marriage of effectiveness and joyful inventiveness. As such, that goal vs Chelsea has always stayed with me as the goal that sums up Ronaldinho as a footballer.
That said, I'm sure there's an element of me valuing it more highly because I was delighted to see the goal scored against Chelsea, and the OP vice versa.
Van Nistelrooy's dribble and goal from the halfway line vs Fulham would be one. It's a lovely finish but it's remembered chiefly because it was so unusual to see him dribbling. And the dribble basically consisted of him fouling someone as he received the ball and an abject defence backing off him all the way to the area.
(I did love Ruud though.)
One more: Brazilian Ronaldo's hat-trick at Old Trafford. It's remembered because it's an away hat-trick in the CL and because it's the great striker of his generation. Everyone understandably got caught up in the moment. But Ronaldo was a shadow of the player he had been by this time. He didn't have a fantastic game, and none of the goals were particularly great, and as much to do with poor defending and poor goalkeeping on the part of Barthez.
This might be controversial but Salah's puskas winning goal wasn't that good

Giggs goal against Arsenal. No one bothers to tackle him and then its a keeper mistake to let that in.
Paolo Wanchope’s goal for Derby v United, even he didn’t know what he was doing
Rooney overhead kick vs City. Poor technique as it hits his shin pad
Messi 2011 CL final. Goalkeeper VDS awful positioning, should save it
Martial 2015 debut goal. Awful awful defending by Skrtel
Salah 2018 vs Spurs 2-2. The defenders just stand as he runs past them and the GK should stay on his feet to save it.
David Platt's goal WC90
Gazza vs Scotland in Euro 96 - it's vs Colin Hendry after all, not Baresi
That Ruud dribble reminds me of two other famous ‘individual’ goals I’m underwhelmed by. Don’t get me wrong, love a dribble goal when it’s done correctly (correctly as in, when I like it). Hazard has a good highlight reel of correct individual goals.
Ben Arfa: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=rqH427NWyfg
Ravel Morrison: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Zo6FIlvXo6Q
Both they’re just running in a straight line and yeah I defo feel underwhelmed by.
It is ironic with Ben Arfa too, because that goal is much more well known than one he scored just a few weeks earlier. This one was a much better individual goal that was more Hazard-like. It was vs Blackburn, it was in some dead FA Cup early round though: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=S5KafuOcyn4
Sorry to take it a little iff track but I find myself underwhelmed by a lot of the things that are are just considered "best ever". I think partly because people have been brought up with the idea that it is simple the best X ever and this sticks in peoples minds.
I guess it is mainly that at the time it happened most people considered it the best ever but that it never really gets reconsidered after that title has been given.
So I'm relatively underwhelmed by:
Maradona's goal against England.
Banks save against Pele.
The Liverpool Newcastle match (I think City - QPR was better of the top of my head).
Also, Alonso's halfway line goal. The keeper slipped otherwise it would have likely been saved.

Rooney overhead kick.

this was the first thought that popped into my head when thinking about overrated goals. and his celebration was just cringe.

maybe he means the one he batted in with his arm.
Nah I actually rate that Rooney goal in all its supposed glory. Maybe the technique isn’t ‘right’ for the purists on where it hit his leg but it still generates great power, top corner, to equalise late in Manchester Derby. I wummed at the time about it being a shin fluke but I do get wowed by it whenever I see it
Yeah I agree with Kash re: the Maradona vs England goal. When I first watched it I was and still am impressed by it.

Rose's goal against Arsenal is great for the moment but it's mainly down to poor keeping.
Torres's goal against Barcelona was nowhere near worth Gary Neville orggasming over.
