Pappis Cisse goal against Chelsea too. Looks amazing but pure fluke
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nah that goal’s out of this work. Even if it was a hit and hope, or if it was even meant to be a shot like that, the way he hit it in any case and the flight of the ball makes it look incredible

Rose's goal against Arsenal is great for the moment but it's mainly down to poor keeping.
Torres's goal against Barcelona was nowhere near worth Gary Neville orggasming over.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
My issue with the Torres goal is when it overshadows the Ramires goal in the context of the match. But tbf no one thinks the Torres goal is impressive it's just a moment
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I know, but even as a moment the game was pretty much already won yet it seems to be the defining moment of that game for some reason.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
When you watched the game through your fingers, as Barca threw a kitchen sink at a makeshift defence - with no actual cb left on the pitch - you can understand why the emotions came out over that
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think maybe it's so memorable because Torres actually proved useful for Chelsea for once.

That Bale goal against Barcelona when he goes on a run from the half way line. I mean a good goal, but he only beat 1 defender who did a poor job of defending, and Bale was even afforded a rather poor touch on the way.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nah I rate it. Bartra tries shoving him off the pitch completely which tbf would have worked 99% of the time. Bale has the strength to stay on his feet and despite being pushed a good 10-15 yards off the pitch he manages to still have the acceleration/recovery and speed to beat Bartra to next touch
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It wouldn't even be in Bale's top 5 goals for me.

It's more the swerve which made Cech look silly. That was once in a lifetime connection.
Sure. Dalian Atkinson scored one that is as good.

That goal is just underrated/underappreciated rather than Maradona’s being overrated
The Cisse 'banana goal' against Chelsea was great. I'd never see a goal like it before and haven't since. One of the best swerve goals in football.

Don’t get me started on that one
A Paul Scholes volley v villa that won goal of the season, well I'm pretty sure it did anyway, was good but it wasn't the best goal that year, I'm sure the same season as rvp got a volley that was much better.
That Rosicky passing goal is better than the Wilshere Giroud one

Yeah the RVP one was much better. It was also a quick counter attack which made it even better.
Scholes goal looked good cos it hit the underside of the bar.
A bit like Risse free kick against United. He just blasted it.

That rvp goal was v Charlton if I'm right? He basically floated in mid air before he hit it, absolute quality and much more technically difficult than the Scholes one.

The Wilshere one was players reacting to the ball bouncing around - almost like reflexively passing it so as not to lose control. I agree the Rosicky one is better because they meant the movement that went with it. They weren't lucky flicks, they intended them to go where they went, but they weren't premeditated like the Rosicky one.
Good post. Disagree on Di Canio though.

That goal vs Charlton was probably RVP's best ever goal and he scored plenty of great goals. Like you say it's all about the fact he hangs in the air and leaps over a defender to get there, and the forward momentum of his whole body is guided into the ball. Even if I could jump and hang in the air like that if I ever attempted something like that I'd end up blazing it over the bar and well wide. And then land flat on my back afterwards...!
