I was running an afternoon shift. Fixing a programming error on a CNC when my then brother in law shouted over that some idiot had flown a plane into a building in NY. We all thought it was a cessna or similar. No internet on mobiles back then but started getting texts off friends saying what had happened. Wasn't clearly an act of terror at that time. Got home at 10 pm and watched the news until about 4 am. Never seen anything like it before or since. Changed the world. Since then my wife makes sure I have no holes in my socks every time we fly abroad.

Was at school, used to have about an hour between getting in and my mum getting in & had planned teenage boy stuff.

Put the TV when I got in on and it was on the news everywhere, couldn't stop watching it.

Yeh I agree the 1st plane was horrendous, but at the time most of us thought it was a terrible accident. It wasn’t until the 2nd plane hit when the world knew it was co-ordinated. Chilling it really was. The whole day was event and event unfolding. The towers collapsing, pentagon , the capitol tower failed attempt etc

Also, the second one was, of course, shown live across the world as TV was covering the first.

I'd had the day off school and was on my way back from hospital with my parents. It wasn't really clear what was happening at that point but I just remember them breaking from conversation and going into silence as it was announced over the radio.

Then the next day or so at school I remember they had all the newspaper front pages spread out across the table. I can remember seeing the one of "the falling man" as clear as day - still gives me chills now thinking about his thought process during that fall.

On a side note, you guys should watch The Looming Tower on Prime. 10 part mini series about how the CIA refused to work with the FBI and hid vital Information from them in the lead up to 9/11. The CIA knew the attackers were living in America 18 months prior to the attack, by the time the FBI had them worked out the attacks happened. Absolute major fack up from American security.

You’re referring to what was known as the wall.

I was on my lunch break from work, the job I did at the time was so near to home, I could pop home every lunch hour to grab something to eat and a brew. I remember switching on the TV and seeing the early footage of the first tower on fire, it must have been around 2pm GMT. I then had to return to work and it was radio updates from there on until I got home that evening.

Yeh major f** up. They had the intelligence

I don't even know how the CIA team tasked with investigating Al-Qaeda at the time weren't imprisoned for treason, because that's essentially what it was. They'd put their ego ahead of their country's security.
