What’s it like where the towers once stood these days? What’s there these days? Memorial?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's been rebuilt into one whole WTC building now.

They replaced it with the One World Trade centre and a memorial. It's the biggest tower in the US.

I thought they were turned into memorial waterfalls with all the names of the victims?

Does anyone still think 9/11 is more shocking than covid 19? Don’t get me wrong, the pandemic is worldwide and horrendous, but I still think 9/11 was the most shocking event of our time.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
911 was pretty bad and its aftermath was worse. The aftermath of this is going to be pretty bad too and who knows if things are going to escalate between US and China.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
WW3 incoming .
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I don’t think so. China have to pay for what they have caused that’s for sure. Anyway, not getting into covid. Hear enough of that bloody thing. The other chilling thing about 9/11 were the people jumping out of the towers, horrifying

Hope not in my lifetime but who thought we would have a pandemic like this.

It was the people jumping from the windows, that was the worst part. Faced with impossible choices, white hot fire behind or a 20 floor drop...absolutely horrendous.

posted on 4/5/20

The worst part was seeing the hopeless people jumping from the towers rather than burn to death.

stuff like that stays with you.

There are rumours the planes were drones and that the buildings were controlled demolition jobs.

Quite a lot of "where were you"s with extensive TV coverage:

Princess Di's death (on the night of my 18th, I was in a nightclub)

Marc Vivien Foe death during a match (I was watching in the same pub, on the same TV as I watched 9/11 unfold two years prior).

Lee Rigby (I was trying to fix my electric shower at my previous address).

Grenfell Tower (in bed at my current house)

I remember watching Iraq getting the shiiit bombed out of it live on TV, the Boston marathon bomber manhunt, the Raoul Moat manhunt and the Gazza twist, Cumbria shootings etc.

24 hour news coverage gets a lot of stick but sometimes it is hard not to watch non stop.

According to some, everything is a hoax (including most of the things I just mentioned).

Oh, and the world is flat.

Worked a night shift in Dublin, woke up, went for a pee, came back turned the telly on as the 2nd plane hit.

One of the most shocking things i've ever seen.

Going by the comments, its another JFK moment, everybody remembers where they where. My parents and the older posters will have experienced both and the Cuba missile crisis.

My earliest shocking TV memory was the Falklands, watching ships burn, the Shuttle exploding, the Omagh bombing aftermath, Lee Rigby, but 9/11 eclipses those.

When Iraq was bombed my Dad went about 3 months without shaving his face because of worry and stress.

I remember coming downstairs in the middle of the night to see him watching the green night vision flashing on the tele as Baghdad was getting bombed left right and centre.

Funny enough, the Iraq war was started on the back of them being responsible for 9/11 when half of the attackers were fecking Saudi origin.

Yeah remember a few of those. I was crashing at my mums with my then missus when Diana died, my mum knocked on the door early morning like 8 am or something and whispered Diana's dead. It didn't register and we were like Diana who? Don't think i have an aunt Diana.

It was pretty mad that it was shown live. Basically watching people get blown up. Propaganda at its best, I guess.

I also remember news coverage of a pilot who crashed behind enemy lines and trying to get to safety. Think that turned out to be false reports, but there was continous coverage for days if memory serves right.

I was in Year 7 during the 7/7 bombings too, my school sent us all home because they were told the buses round us in West London might be ripe for attacks as well. We were warned to not ride any of them home.
