Getting Bored

I quite enjoyed the Dortmund and Bayern games.

Obviously without fans it takes a lot away from the game but you take what you're given, during these times. The season must finish, clubs must get paid and they must be able to prepare for next season, knowing where they stand.

I can understand football fans finding it *less* enjoyable. I mean that is obvious, everyone will find it less enjoyable to some degree.

I don’t quite understand football fans saying that they don’t enjoy it enough to the point they feel like there’s no point or they just can’t watch it. Like can you only enjoy football on a superficial level when there’s the fans in the background making noise? And the exact same football being played with no fans puts you off completely? In a way it’s like they’re not even a fan of the actual sport being played, just the associated factors. And obviously watching football with loads of fans is something only seen at the top, not when watching youth football, or Sunday League. That’s fair enough if you’ve reached the point you can only enjoy football with fans, it’s just surprising to me.

Watching the Bundesliga also really makes me still think it’s unreasonable for any club threatened with relegation trying to get out of it even if the season is completed, and especially at the expense of clubs who may get promoted. For Christ’s sake, if you want to avoid relegation, then avoid it through this chance to do it through seeing out the season and playing well.

It's a fair point... there's no real alternative at the moment so perhaps pundits should shut up about it and focus on the football.

They were BT Sport pundits to be fair, who are absolutely awful.

Has anyone on here decided to subscribe to Sky Sports based on the stadiums being full of fans and having a great atmosphere????

Didn't think so either. We watch football to enjoy the sport. To see teams compete, great goals, great players, great saves etc etc. None of which is to do with stadiums being packed full of fans.

Good point OP. And just to add that stadiums have just about 60k fans or so. The other millions are always watching on TV and won't mind not having fans for some months IMO.

Yeah I’m bit fed up of the moaning about it. It’s been done for a good reason, not like it’s some random rule change brought in. If you want football back this is how it’s got to be for now.

Yes it’s obviously not the same, but I even enjoyed watching it and I hardly ever watch other leagues. It was interesting to hear how the players talk to each other and things like that, so I’m kind of looking forward to the English games because then we can understand it! Also found I was watching the game more closely and concentrating on exactly how they were playing. I’d obviously prefer it with the fans there, but we just have to take the best out of it at the moment. It’s much better than just having no football for a year

Said all along I won't entertain it, and I won't change my stance on that, but I agree there's no point in moaning about it either way. There are good reasons why it is being done, but either watch it or don't. Not like they're going to change their mind because Bob from Norwich doesnt like it.

People just moan for the sake of moaning. Look at VAR. First they wanted it and when it gets most of the decisions correct they still moan.

People are very easily swayed based on what they believe benefits their club.

With VAR, one decision they perceive against them and VAR is rubbish, despite getting it correct.

I saw it in action yesterday in the Bayern game. Cross came in, Gnabry got his head on it, it's heading into the goal and Muller steals the goal on the line. It goes to VAR and Muller was offside. I was interested if they were going to be as slow as the PL and they were quite slow also. A very easy decision took about a minute. I think these ones are the most frustrating for people.

Better that than calling the officials corrupt because you don't like a decision that went against you, I suppose.

Who called officials corrupt? You mean the time they were proven to have moved the lines several times and drew a diagonal line, to make it offside which was called out by TV studios in several different countries?

I think corrupt is a bit too strong a word but certainly they tried their best to make it offside.

However, I know you disagree so I'm not going to have another debate about it for days.

That wasn't proven at all and yes, I mean that.

There's nothing to debate here.

You're sitting on your high and mighty talking about how fans are swayed by their perception, without a hint of irony, as someone who accused the officials of corruption because he didn't agree with the decision.

Diagonal lines aren't perception.

Anyway, I'm out before you draw me into this.

This is how it's supposed to work, straight lines.

How drawing a diagonal line is perception, I don't know. It's at best a mistake and at worse, trying your best to make it offside.

They literally did it twice, both with straight lines and he was onside, then did it again and drew a diagonal line, making him offside.

This was all on camera, nobody can dispute it.

You can clearly see, even without the line, he is onside.

They drew the lines twice, he was still onside, with straight lines, then the third time they drew a diagonal line, making him offside. It was ridiculous. It hasn't happened again since, so I'm hoping it's a one off and overall I'm happy with the increase in correct decisions.

Look!

They weren't diagonal - they just looked that way on screen.

There was a full explanation given at the time.

You just can't handle disagreeing with the decision and so your only answer is that the officials are corrupt.

It's just brilliant that TOOR can write a post about how fans' perception changes when it's their own team and then without a hint of irony, can write that the officials drew diagonal lines because they wanted Firmino to be offside even though he wasn't, in the same article.

This site is fantastic at times.

Why would Andy Gray, an Everton fan be biased towards Liverpool? Why did numerous TV stations across the world pick up on it and point it out? Surely they aren't biased?

They questioned it at the time of the incident, which is their job.

What they didn't do is conclude that the officials must be corrupt and to my knowledge, they haven't rubbished explanations that were subsequently presented.
