Take out tonight's pen - coz this narrative has been going on a while.
Look at all of the pens, and try and take off the tinted specs, the vast majority of them are clear cut.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
My utd pal here says most of not all are legit. Says it's due to the fast technical players you guys have. I guess it could be so. I was thinking back to the days of our fast technical players and I recall being frustrated at times when I thought we were getting fouled in and out of the box and would get nothing (the story going around was we were soft). 21 seemed like an unusually high number is all.

21 pens and the only one definitely wrongly awarded was the Fernandez one at Villa.
Plenty not awarded to United that could or should have.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No there was one where James went down and Rashford took it and missed. That one was wrong.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
defender stretched for the ball, didn't get it, impeded James. Foul anywhere else on the pitch.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It featured in Sky's compilation of bad VAR decisions only just today. Seems like they agree it was a poor decision.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Bet they never showed the Pogba one in the Villa game that wasn't given? Or the 2 v Palace earlier in the season that weren't given?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Didn't see them but it was only the first part. If they're very bad then I'm sure they'd be shown.

I think the main difference has been VAR, I've no doubt that a lot of these decisions we would have been complaining about crap refs had they been last season, because a lot of them just aren't given by the officials in the first place.
It is a very high number, but it just seems an odd thing for people to bang on about when the majority of people have literally only seen the Villa one, and the one tonight. There are 19 other examples that go against that narrative that we get soft pens, but that just gets ignored in favour of having a moan

Salah gets denied about 3/4 pens a game for what Utd get given penalties for Jay. Thats the problem. If Salah did what Martial did tonight, Utd fans be all over him for it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Certainly can't argue with that last sentence.
Time to ban penalties. Just make it a indirect free kick.

It's the modern game. Your team is just behind. There has been tiki taka from Barca, counter attack from Germans, park the bus from Mourinho, but this era is us drawing penalties. We are revolutionary. This is our era. The opposition fans will naturally be envious.
I think that's over fifty penalties since the start of 2017/18 season.

Pen, pen, & pen!
Tonight’s was soft. Most of theirs haven’t been though, the way they ply with all the front three taking on defenders more than passing across the box means they are going to get a lot of penalties.

yup. don't remember the corruption claims when watford scored more from the spot this season (as a % of total goals) than united, or when palace in 04/05 were awarded 13 penalties, and scored just 41 PL goals (we received 14 this season, but scored 66 goals).
And we're still only second in the all-time PL penalties table!
Actually why I just leave this here -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CS3-E7zEmRI
There are maybe 2-3 soft ones (debatable), and one very dodgy one (Villa), so, is there a conspiracy?
We are like the most attacking team in world football right now. Attack attack attack, chance after chance after chance. No surprise we get so many penalties as virtually most of the game we have the ball in the opposition penalty box.
Looks like united got 14 in the league this season and that is a record. Before that, it was Leicester in 15/16 with 13. United also got 12 last season which was the highest amount. But looking back further, they have not gotten as many.
So 14 in the league and 7 in cup competitions.
Past few seasons in the league, we have received 4, 5,5, 6 and 2 penalties per season.

I actual think refs should be giving teams far more penalties, there are loads of infringements in most matches that warrant them.
So many tackles that are stonewall freekicks are never given.
More penalties, more goals, more entertainment
----------------------------------------------------------------------
this is true. in this respect united are trailblazers, where we lead, others follow.
I'm confused - Are people upset that we are awarded penalties, despite the number of checks now done beforehand?

this is putting it mildly
You will never get a penalty when your team are sat on their backsides in their own half. Those box shaped lines at the other end of the pitch from where your team's players are is where you have to be. Simples.

We actually had an insane amount of penalties wrongly turned down this season. Over 10 I believe that were stonewall. Shows you VAR isn't yet perfect.
