Agree entirely on Neymar, some people are so blinded by the theatrics and perceived party boy image that they ignore the fact that he is outrageously talented and a fantastic player.

Obvious united analogy is pogba, I've honestly never seen a fanbase treat one of their better players in this way, a good % seem to have decided to hate him whatever he does in a united shirt. Scores goals and gets assists, they want him to help control the midfield more; control the midfield, and he's not doing enough in attack. And he's simply not allowed to have a bad game, every misplaced pass is proof that he doesn't care, every missed tackle that it's all about him etc.

Not quite

Remember having loads of ding dongs on here with people who claimed he was limited and couldn’t lace fabregas’s boots, yes people actually did say that

I'd pretty much go along with that. He has his flaws as a player, but I think it's more of a case of his mix of attributes not exactly fitting the needs of our formation than failings in ability or application.

The Sevilla game is a case in point. I thought he had one of his better games for us and that he was one of our best players on the night but amid the (excessive) complaints about our performance I saw a few making him one of the scapegoats.

I don't think I have ever actually heard anyone say that they don't rate Neymar as a player. I have heard plenty say that they think he is a total surfer.

What I will say is that he hasn't done himself any favours going to play at PSG. If they can win the CL then I guess it will have been worth it, but to play 3+ years in France in your prime years is bizarre to me. I know that he will be on an incredible contract, but he has chased the money rather than the glory. Perhaps that counts against him in some people's minds?

That's a good shout. He's not even underrated... He's just off the radar of so many people when discussing top attacking talent.

If he joined United this summer though I doubt many fans would be anything less than excited to see what he could do.

I think Neymar suffers because he's in the era of Messi & Ronaldo. Those two are insanely consistent in a way that I think it's quite unrealistic to expect of other players. Neymar was the heir apparent but he's never been as consistent as them and therefore he's overrated.

He's also lambasted for choosing the 'easy' option of the French league as opposed to the higher standard of Spain. Fans generally don't like the mercenary types.

Personally I don't think Neymar's ability is in any doubt. He's a fantastic footballer.

I think Ozil used to be a marmite player until the last couple of years. Ibrahimovic as well for a while. Beckham for a while had people who thought he was an exceptional player and those who thought he was just a celebrity.

In terms of EPL though, Cantona is one that I think divides. Some would have him as top 3 ever in the EPL, some wouldn't even have him in the top 10 or 20.

I think going to PSG was the right decision for Neymar. At Barcelona he was always going to be overshadowed by Messi and I think it would have actually limited how big his legacy could be by staying there and always being 2nd to Messi.

Scholes is another... Not with UTD fans, but opposition fans.

Whenever the topic of Enland's golden generation comes up... many, many fans don't see moving Scholes to the left to accommodate Gerrard and Lampard as a mistake, whereas I think it's the worst mistake any England manager has made.

Yeah but PSG? Could have gone to Man C or Man U or someone else and cemented his career as a great.

Neymar has been riddled with injuries during his time at PSG as well which is probably why he is so frequently frowned upon

The Carrick the crab days might be the ultimate in UTD fans being split by a player. I just couldn't believe what I was reading when our fans were saying how useless he was.

Neymar is outrageous in talent and Billy big boots, big girls blouse attitude. Love his game, really dislike the man. He's still young though, he could do a Suarez and make efforts to control his natural instinct to be a cant.
