Not true, Skull. Any scholarships are guaranteed for the length of the degree irrespective of career ending injury. Colleges don't make a huge load out of sports but their billions in endowments are contributed largely by the whole alumni population - one of the successes of capitalism in the US is the habitual wealth philanthropy of the super rich - aided, as in the UK, by tax relief. That said, the 'rich' Ivy league gets richer etc.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
"Athletic scholarships can be guaranteed for four years, but it's not the norm. The NCAA has allowed colleges to provide multiyear scholarships since 2012. ... Most athletic scholarships are only guaranteed for one year, but they are generally renewed annually.14 Aug 2019"
also the quality of the degrees has been called into question with many of the athletes being coerced into taking a lot of worthless classes so they can dedicate more time to training.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
OK, hands up, got that wrong and should have said that any that are offered for the length of the degree are honoured if injured. TBH the ‘industry’ of college selection and competition, not just in sports, is such that word would quickly get around that they couldn’t be trusted and they would not be able to attract such good students. Stats are everything to them. I’m not aware of courses being easier but every uni we spoke to said they wouldn’t let athletes fail - suspension from training and team and tutors supplied until back on track. They don’t want the disruption having put effort into a student.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Genuinely think it's a brilliant system. If my daughter is lucky enough to be good at sport and can get on something like that her bags packed will be
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Daughter.....good at sport?
Unlikely.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No need to be sexist. It might be showjumping or gymnastics he’s talking about.
