I can/could afford £15 to watch a Chelsea game if I chose to... - but the long term cost to us all if we all got suckered into that cheap shot would have made it unaffordable period.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Of course.
I could pay £15 for a Friday night game if I wanted to, for a one off.
Could I pay that every week and factor that into every other expense, probably not.

I'd rather sit there and stream it, which I think from 'research', they discovered people had started to stream even more so than before PPV.

This was blatantly an experiment to see how many people would pay £15 to watch the shiiiiter games. If it had been popular then magically in a few months the Liverpool vs United game would become a PPV and then fans would be well and truly ripped off.

If you think PL football is only worth £5 a game then it has very little future (as the entertainment product it currently provides).
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sky and BT Sports combined is like £40/month and between them they show like 20 PL games a months as well as hundreds of games in the CL, EL, League Cup, lower leagues, MLS and European Leagues, as well as extensive coverage of dozens of other major sports so yea based on that, £5 is way over the odds for one game of football

posted on 6/11/20

yeah exactly that. Is the principle. I could afford it, but you do it once a week thats £60 a month, on top of bt, sky and whatever else you have

This.
I'll be paying again tomorrow to watch Palace (yeah, i know !) but as Sheriff states, long-term this idea was always doomed.
Glad to see the back of it.

Yes?

So that means Football should now be free or just a fiver a game?

What else to you apply this to?

I'd pay £5 a game to watch United. If then I go to a match and not see it on TV that's my problem. By charging only £5 to watch the TV company could also charge more for ad space as there would be more people watching rather than at £15.

And what about the TV licenses that everybody still pays as well?

Essentially what has happened is that the PL have just increased everyone's TV licenses for an extra £15 per game and not per month, whilst I can assume many, many people will be strapped for cash due to the current climate.

You think it's fair that the PL should start charging people more on top of the TV licenses that we all pay for the likes of Sky ,BT etc.

As someone has said above, 500,000 people watching it at £5 is better than 100,000 people watching at £15. Simple supply-demand really.

People do realise that if they don't pay to watch football then your club will no longer be able to make big money signings like Alberto Aquilani or Memphis Depay? You would not get to enjoy these players playing in the PL. DO YOU REALLY WANT THIS??

This £5 a game would be on top of ground revenue and Sky/BT I presume so football wouldn't be losing money from this. In fact it would make games more accessible for a lot of people.

They are worth more than £5, but when everyone is struggling in a pandemic for money, for a mega rich league to ask for £15 just was never going to work out for them. Tickets for games are of course more expensive but you’re also paying for an experience alongside the football. While games may be worth more than a £5 mark, I just think they’d have had far better update and a less negative reaction had they changed less

Ultimately the games are only worth what people will pay for them. The viewing numbers were very low so they weren’t worth £15.

posted on 6/11/20

I said at the time this was announced that if they just added a new channel showing all these PPV games for £15/month I probably would have paid for it, as it would represent equal value to Sky and BT subscriptions.

Paying £15/match, £5/match or even £2/match is above the going rate when you compare it what people pay on their Sky and BT subscriptions, which people already said long before a financially draining pandemic was more expensive than it should be.

you dont understand business. When new businesses start, they give sales and discounted rates (new sky customers etc). Even more so in a pandemic.

Anyway supply and demand. Nobody wanted it. So live with it.

Are you?

I think you're the only person here who isn't grasping the context.

It's clearly not working for the PL, hence why it's being scrapped. Whoever passed this idea is a moron in the first place. Why ask for more when there is less available?

£15 per game that's PPV on top of TV licenses every month is not going to sit well with fans and it hasn't.

Thank you.
This must have been the graph the suspect market researcher used when deciding it was a good idea to charge £15 a game.

TV Licence are BBC.

Nothing to do with Sky or BT

You know this don't you?

You seem to have the belief that you are now entitled to watch cheap PL football on TV because of the pandemic.

I dont get the big deal...

Its not like every game is PPV, just the 3 o'clock kick offs... which arent televised anyway so all I can see is TV companies providing an alternative for the match goers... who spend more than £15 quid on match day... no?

it wasn't just the 3 o clocks though.
And its not a big deal. They tried charging for it. People didn't pay. The end.

Explain why you how have to pay your BBCTV licence fee ( of which you have to if you receive broadcasts) and now £15 on top of it, to watch each football game you want to watch (of you don't have to).
