The main one for me was Liverpool fans regularly being told that next year would be our year
Lampard did seem to score a lot of deflected goals though.

That was more bantering though as liverpool fans use to say it no?
And guardian ran a piece years back which worked out at 8% of his goals were deflectiions. So 8 every 100. Considering he scored like 200 odd goals that would be lik 16-20
Messi is a good player but can he do it on a cold and windy night against Stoke

Just because the player is a local, "He's a good lad" implying there's a better chance of said player making it at the club.
Feminising names as though women are inferior.

But don't they take penalties out, making it more like 10 per cent? One in ten goals put away by a decent goalscorer still seems a decent proportion, though I'd have to other other players to compare it with.
I remember a lot of Lampards goals being deflected too, i used to call him rent a shot, he'd shoot a lot so was expected to score a fair amount of deflected goals? And i assumed fat frank cause hes got a chubby face n always looked a chubby lad even if he wasnt fat.

Definitely the "could Messi do it in England?" one.
He has 26 goals in 34 games against the top 6, and some genuinely think he'd struggle against the likes of Burnley and Palace
I hate the ‘not a big game player’ nonsense. Pretty much every player (bar Vardy for positive reasons or Lukaku for negative reasons) scores less frequently against the bigger and better sides because of exactly that reason - they are bigger and better.

That might be true, but then there are probably players who actually excel in the bigger games for whatever reason. Rooney and Cantona are two that spring to mind for United - always likely to step up and score against the best sides. They just sort of rose to the challenge.

But then that isn’t really true, because a lot of people judge it on goals scored. Rooney scored most against Newcastle, and then WHU then Villa. I don’t know about Cantona but Vardy is the only player who tends to score more against the bigger sides as the counter-attacking football suits his game

I don't think a big-game (forward) player has to score "more" against the big teams than against other teams, just have a good record of scoring against them. Rooney consistently stepped up in big games for United over his career. Even when he was one the wane (sorry), he'd still tend to produce something when it really counted. He just had that mentality.

Asking a question = perpetrating it.
I think people use to say they weren’t a big match player was because of repeated failures to perform on the big stage rather than just because people score less against the top teams. I’m sure some people (lukaku for example) scored against the top teams on occassion but can’t remember a huge goal he scored for Utd. That could be my memory however
