I said from the start that he was average and out of his depth in the league.
Looks great against average Europa opponents but gets found out in the league consistently
Willock wouldn't be starting in any of the tope 10-12 teams in the league
Yep he’s not good enough. Since Wenger gave him his debut I wouldn’t say he’s made any significant improvement. One thing that frustrates me bout him is he always plays with his head dwn and fails to release the ball when needed.

For real. But you have people making excuses for him cause he's a local homegrown English player. Don't wanna hear it.
Not sure there is much hype around him. He does possess some ability that our other midfielders don’t have, when on form (or against weaker Europa sides) he can make good runs into the box beyond the striker and is bit of a goal threat. None of our other midfielders do that. I wanted him to start in the hope he could bring these much needed dimensions to our play, but we may as well have started a penguin or something because we made no attempt to show ambition in attack to make him useful. He also played pretty awful, but hard to do a whole lot better when the team can barely progress the ball forward from defence
He probably won’t ever be the single answer to our problems but we won’t see any forward thinking player flourish until we actually have a game plan that isn’t just to pack our own box with 10 players
Willock is a squad player as far as I'm concerned, he's got a good engine and attitude but that's it - not clinical in the final third and I see no evidence of that changing.
If anyone expects a youngster to come into that team as an attacking midfielder and make a big difference in just one game then you are seriously deluded.
Every time Willock got the ball, Pepe, Aubameyang and Willian were either static or closing Willocks space down. It should be noted our best chance during the first 60 minutes came from Willocks vision and pass.
Maybe if he had Saka alongside him he could have been more effective.
I’m not saying that Willock is the needed quality or ever will be but this article really is pathetic.
As if Willock is going to come in and suddenly transform us into an attacking juggernaut. The team as a whole has no confidence nor have we any attacking cohesion whatsoever.
Not coincidentally, the Ivorian Bebe has played in nearly all those games and has been god awful yet the OP constantly defends him.

Willock is still young so he has time on his hands I guess but he shouldn't be anywhere close to starting for a team like Arsenal
But this was his first PL appearance of the season.
I mean if you are gonna make excuses for Willian after countless disasterclasses, you would think that maybe Willock deserves a bit more leeway than 53 minutes of football in an awful team performance
Yes there is no attacking chemistry whatsoever, until we figure out a system that is more than just defending our box it won’t matter much who we play in attack, they will all struggle. Arteta isn’t getting the best out of any of his forward thinking players at the moment
Tbf to the OP he was the first to see how facking awful Saka is.
Just think, if the Arsenal hierachy hadn't listened to Dubbed Saka would still be here stinking up the place.

No he didn't. Took him a fair few games to really step up. And he played mainly at left back.

I'll give him credit. He has proven me wrong. But my point regarding Willock stands.
The way I see it is I compare our younger players with the top 7,8 sides, Take Leicester for e.g, compare a Willock or Nelson with a Maddison or grealish there is just no comparison, they’re no where near that level. Willock needs to be on a season long loan where he can play week in week out, same with Nelson , they have talent no doubt but they’re nowhere near the level required to be at a club like arsenal imo.
Tbf Grealish ain't exactly a youngster. But I'm with you on that. Aside from Saka, who's the last decent player Arsenal produced? It's been ages.
compare a Willock or Nelson with a Maddison or grealish there is just no comparison,
===
Comparing a couple of 21 year olds with a 23 and 25 year old doesn't seem right.
Send them both on loan and then who are you playing in the Europa? Same 11 for every game?
Correction - Reiss is still only 20.
I said younger players, I Wouldn’t call Willock a youngster either tbh, he’s been in and around the squad since Wenger brought him in. The guy just hasn’t made any sort of impact apart from a couple of decent cup performances and a run out in the Europa league. He got a big chance today but his touch was poor. People bigged him up before the game , I’m just not a big fan. He’s ok but I can’t see him turning out to be a top player.
