I’ve always said this is gonna be a strange season and not one to judge fairly on anyone. Ole up until the start of the season had done ok and deserved to keep his job, this season has been disappointing but like I said, it’s a strange one and harsh to judge Ole on it.

There are still plenty of things I haven’t been pleased with under Ole but right now it would be harsh to sack him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Harsh, but ultimately, the right thing.

Why wait?

Totally agree OP. Would be madness to chop and change manager, especially in these strange times.

Back to square one again? No thanks. Need continuity and everyone at the club fully behind Ole.

Players need to raise their game.

I agree the players need to Improve, but that is also part of the managers role.

Its says everything that the best anyone can muster in support of Ole keeping his job is that he hasn't failed yet.

If Ole isn't going to win us a League or European Cup, what is the point in waiting to replace him?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And if he is? None of us can foretell the future
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Do you think he will?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Genuinely no idea. Not this season, but if he finishes in top 4 this season, and the window goes well, then yes I do.

with the players he inherited and the accompanying mess at the club, Ole has succeeded in stage one, which was to steady the ship.

Phase 2 is still ongoing which is to get rid of the substantial deadwood. Still more players to ship out. Some are unsellable under their contracts. And slowly bring in his own kind of players in. which whilst he is trying to do, Ed bottling it this summer and going back to his old ways has set Ole back a window.

Remarkably we actually have CL football this season which must have been a complete bonus for the owners.

Id give Ole 8/10 so far.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't see how Ole gets praise for getting rid of the deadwood when we still have Rojo, Jones, Romero, Lingard and Mata in the squad.

Id give Ole 6/10.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

What can Ole do about getting rid of Rojo and Jones?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Whatever he is being praised for doing re other deadwood players.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Touche!

Fair comment.

Ole is doing a great job, and should be allowed time to build the team and maybe soon United will be going for titles

Would love nothing more to see him succeed, but it's looking more like he can only get so far in terms of inspiration.

Its not the managers job to inspire the players to be good.

Certainly not international players who purport to play for Man United, anyway
----------------------------------------------------------------------

WHAT ? Its literally his job.
++

It really isn't.

As Keano/Scholes/Rio/Nev/Hargo etc. all consistently say, they didnt expect the manager to motivate us to play well. If you can't do that yourself you shouldn't be at the club.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
That is the stupidest thing I've read online ever. Wow.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Never read some RDD comments before he was sacked off?

Can't see United pulling up any trees in the league this season. As likely to finish outside the top 7 as they are in the top 4 imo based off the season so far.

Very tough CL group is giving it some credit as well. PSG are obviously a top side, but Leipzig aren't anywhere near as strong as last season and Basaksehir are poor as well. Should be going through if you ask me.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You can't really think United are as likely to finish outside the top 7 as in it?

If you genuinely believe that then time to get down to the bookies, because they've got it priced all wrong.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No, you're right I don't believe that.

I said United are just as likely to finish outside the top 7 as they are to finish in the top 4 imo. That I believe because I don't see, at the moment, why United can even be justified as a candidate of the top 4. They'd do well to get into Europe at the moment along with how well other sides are doing.

I don't expect Southampton to maintain the levels they have shown so far, but the likes of Everton, Leicester and Wolves might be likely to maintain a push for a strong season and I expect City to be among the rest before long as well as Arsenal pushing, I don't see how United get in the top 4 at the moment.

Ok so how about this., a compromise.
Change the Backroom staff. I mean do you have faith in them?
I know for the longest time I wanted Phelan out when he was with SAF.

Most of the above you named are failed managers. And SAF was known to be one of the best motivators. That’s why Utd were so successful under him.

I'm truly stunned that this guy doesn't believe its part of the managers role to motivate and improve players. Wow
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He didn't say improve players. You have added it in so those undecided come down yourside;
Personally I'm in the middle, I don't suppose he had to motivate Keane or Rio etc, but maybe some of the others. It's not always a rollicking sometimes it's praise and encouragement.

Ole has had 2 years to stamp his authority and he has failed. Still makes the same mistakes. We get outplayed by some of the worst teams in the league. Lock down last season saved his job. He needs to go. The weekends game was the last straw.

Inspire/ motivate/ improve all part of the same family, and for me any manager worth a damn needs these tangibles to succeed, whether it’d be by a rollicking or praise, he’s the head of the table.

Good article SE85.

It is painfully obvious that the lack of pre-season screwed us (and City) over and we are still clawing it back. That the poor start also peaked with the 6-1 loss to Spurs did some serious damage and I think we have done quite well to bounce back a bit from that.

Whether he works out or not, time will tell... But some of the leaps of logic people make after a handful of games is laughable.

Oops, really sorry - completely misread your post!

That's certainly a more reasonable bet, only on the basis that Chelsea and Spurs look so strong. Early days though.

Clearly Ole inspired Molde to their first ever league title.

Jamie Jackson:

"At Molde his blueprint was to make his players believe. Those spoken with for The Red Apprentice say his opening days were invested in working on confidence – confidence that they could overcome the club’s inferiority complex. As with his great mentor Ferguson, being second was of zero interest."

I don't know anyone who thinks Ole will top his 3rd place finish last season.

Its bizarre anyone thinks he shouldn't be replaced.
