It's different because instead of one person hearing it 7,800,000 read it.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
It is different. One person heard racist abuse being thrown at him. 7,800,000 didnt.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Ahahaha the mental gymnastics coming towards 606 is going to be huge.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nah. You're not daft, you know there's no comparison here.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

He won't get banned then.

Racist. Hope the FA throw the book at him.

When will Manyoo print the t-shirts off?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Is this irony? No one's this stupid are they?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
never met poolmyfinger before?

just when you thought liverpool fans had given up embarrassing themselves over the suarez affair, here we go all over again.

Bernardi Silva did under similar circumstances, so he should do.

Yes, that's how punishment for racism works.

What is this nonsense?

Suarez used the word in an offensive way, multiple times. I.e. "I dont talk to Negritos"

Cavani used it to thank a fellow Uruguayan fan in an affectionate way, on social media and not within a heated argument.

Context is important. Day and night difference here.

I feel embarrassed for Liverpool fans who have yet to even understand why Suarez was banned.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What utter nonsense. Context makes no difference. It’s a term referencing someone’s skin color.

It’s racist.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

context is everything

jesus you pool fans earn your reputations don't you

8 game ban. Degrading Black people even when he knew his great mate was guilty of same charge. He was quite vocal when Suarez got his ban so he knew what he was doing.

If Person A owns a knife, and Person B owns the same knife and waves it in someone’s face in an argument, are we saying that the only thing that really matters is that the knife is the same?

I understand that this isn’t an exactly accurate analogy, but it does show that the way in which, and the context in which, something is used is, in a case like this more important than the thing itself. You can’t just simplify it to suit you.

I’ve already said I’d understand a one-game ban for Cavani but cannot accept a serious comparison with Suarez. And if appreciating the relationship between language and context is “gymnastics”, then call me Beth Tweddle. I’m not even talking about the “Uruguayan” context here, and have already said Cavani ought to have known better.

this is such a non-issue and just takes attention away from actual racism issues

rival fans blowing it out proportion to point score

and social media just wanting a silly witch hunt

Then the FA jumping on the bandwagon to make it seems like they are doing something

soon it will be illegal to fart as someone will be offended

Utd fans are clearly salty because they know it rings true.

Oh come on it's amazing

Ole's under pressure, Utd 2-0 down, brings on Cavani, come back of the season and he's king of the hill.

If you wrote down 'Stupidest sh!t you could possibly do after the event' Cavani posting Negrito to millions has gotta be top 5

Love it.

You seriously can not compare the two situations and claim as it as the same outcome?

One was intent with harm, while the other was misguided.

But Cavani still needs to learn the importance of his actions.

Not one United fan I’ve seen is “salty”, nor should they be. The saltiness comes from Liverpool fans drawing ill-judged comparisons. Most United fans I’ve seen have said he’ll probably get a one-match ban for a naive comment and that we’ll take it on the chin.

Not unless you are extremely thick or are being disingenuous.

I suspect its the latter with most - either way there's probably not much use in trying to talk sense here.

Looks like some Liverpool fans have been 'waiting for this moment.' They could have a point, IF it was the same thing. Delusion can take the wildest forms.

Same defence? No it isn't. It was accepted that negrito can be used as a term of endearment. Its just that in Suarez's case it wasn't believed that was the intent. With Cavani there is no question thay it was used in a friendly manner.

Yep and if you read about how they came to that conclusion it's pretty ropey from witnesses to statement prep.

Look, I don't think Cavani racist and I don't even want to see him banned. He will be though and yeah, I enjoy the gymnastics. not sorry.

Anyone who thinks that Suarez was being affectionate to Evra is stupid. Suarez even admitted he was abusing him. He was guilty from how own mouth. Its a shame people like you point score over serious matters. Have a read of what Anton Ferdinand went through after the Terry case. Maybe then you'll understand why it's bigger than football rivalries. Goodnight

We never did, it was a team decision and nothing to do with the public.

Does anyone actually think Suarez believes he's part of a superior race, set apart from his black grandfather? Or did he use a term that in his culture is not offensive but wound Evra up? Suarez insists he didn't say it repeatedly as well btw, no one else heard it.

It's up to you where you stand on this but I have enjoyed it so far I must admit. Some people will say anything.
