Suarez was banned for “racially abusing” Evra.

It’s the same word. It’s doesn’t matter about context.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

It absolutely matters about context.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Then go find a black person and call them the n-word. I trust that you’ll be fine if you say it while smiling.

That’s pretty much what you’re saying.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I haven’t said any such thing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah you did. You said it “matters about context”.

There is ZERO difference between the N-word and the term Cavani used.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I hate saying this, but I don’t think you know what “context” means. Your last sentence pretty much confirms that.

All this comes down to is how much you put faith in the FA's 'court' that has a 99%+ conviction rate and whether you actually believe either Suarez or Cavani are a big fat racist.

Soooooo many Utd fans have treated the finding as verbatim set in stone bonafide truth. Lol.

We all know the Suarez thing wouldn't have even made court but now, I tell ya, if the FA ban him and these mental gymnasts defend him... lovely stuff.

Football!
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I for one don’t believe that either Suarez or Cavani is “racist”.

I believe one of them used a word with possible racial connotations in an argument, whereas the other one used the same word in what seems to have been a good-natured exchange. I also believe that the latter should have been more aware of what he was saying due to the former’s experience.

What I don’t believe is that this needs explaining.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

But do you believe in law? I'd also add that if you are not racist, then you cannot be racist by proxy.

You don't understand Uruguayan verbal context

No, YOU don't understand Uruguayan verbal context!

<angrywomancatmeme>

----------------------------------------------------------------------

The “Uruguayan” context is not the most important one here. The heated argument versus congratulatory tweet context is surely the one to focus on.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah if you believe Evra who let's face it is an utter gobsheite who I've seen say far worse on Twitter. Perhaps Suarez was telling the truth, as said no one else heard it did they. Not one person.

Create your own narratives all you like.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

So now the issue is not that Cavani and Suarez said the same word, but that we don’t know if Suarez said it at all?

posted on 30/11/20

Can any word be racist on it's own, if you say a word in a positive response with a symbol of a handshake next to it. If that in any way can be misinterpreted then I'd say probably yes, there might be cause for someone to be upset about it and take it personally but I find it hard to believe anyone would take that response personal or negatively in any way, despite problematic words used. I might be wrong though.

Suarez used a problematic word to express hate. That's racist. Cavani hasn't, so I'm not sure.

We sure as hell won't make tshirts defending him if he's found guilty of anything like you prats did.
------------------------------------------

It was casual form of racism at its worst

The word is common in South America as a term of endearment, translated into English gives it complete different meaning

Term of endearment or not it's a far more PC driven culture here, something Ed may not have been aware of.

My Asian friends refer to one another using the P word, some black friends do the same to one another. However, outside of those circles the meaning would be lost and more offence taken by easily sensitive ears.

I do not condone or endorse what Edi said, if the FA deem it a disrepute charge then so be it. Utd will also encourage him to educate himself in the area of race and language deemed inappropriate in the UK.

No need to limber up for a back-flip: I understand all those words but have no idea what you’re asking me. The best answer I can give is the one I’ve already given.

Look it's fine, at no pint do I think Suarez or Cavani are anything even approaching racist, but watching certain Utd fans on is a bit cringeworthy tbh.

Of course, the whole term of endearment thing, which is actually true... except Suarez obviously used it differently.

Here we go. Don’t like the counter argument so I must not know what the word means.

Please, son. Here’s the deal, take my advice from earlier. Do it. Prove me wrong.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Sorry, I wasn’t aware you’d made a counter-argument. I’ll say what I said to Robbing:

I for one don’t believe that either Suarez or Cavani is “racist”.

I believe one of them used a word with possible racial connotations in an argument, whereas the other one used the same word in what seems to have been a good-natured exchange. I also believe that the latter should have been more aware of what he was saying due to the former’s experience.

The WORD may be the same but the CONTEXT is different - one was an argument, the other a congratulatory exchange. If you genuinely don’t think the same word can have a different weight in two clearly different contexts, then there is no point continuing this debate (or, indeed, any other).

I genuinely believe Evra is full of sh!t fwiw.

That Suarez told the truth and Evra lied. That's it. Read the report, actually read it, and judge for yourselves. Not palatable I'm sure.

When I’ve already said, and pretty much spelled out, that I’m not talking about the “Uruguayan/term of endearment” context, why keep assuming I am? I’m comparing argument versus congratulatory tweet. I think this is the third time I’ve said so.

This is an obvious attempt to tar UTD fans with the same brush, to push us into the same pigshytee pit you Suarez apologists made a home in and try to justify the morally bankrupt response led by your dinosaur of a legend Kenny.

Thats all you. Own it

Spiteful Scousers who still, after 9 years, choose to believe Suarez's version of events. Even though the FA found it to be totally unreliable, given the context, Evra's evidence and contradictions in the defences offered by Suarez's own Liverpool teammates.
