Is Burns injured ?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Stayed home for the birth of his first child.
Shame to lose Bess, Wood and Root so late in the day. Sri Lanka in the ascendency now. We really needed to bat for at least the morning session tomorrow if not until tea. Bess and Leach will need to be a hell of a lot better tomorrow.
Matches: JR 99, KP 104
Innings: JR 180, KP 181
Runs: JR 8182, KP 8181
Average: JR 49.58, KP 47.28
Top score: JR 254, KP 227
100s: JR 19, KP 23
50+ scores: JR 68, KP 58
Ducks: JR 8, KP 10
Matches won: JR 44/99 (44.4%), KP 42/104 (40.4%)
Little stat comparison between Joe and KP
Good comparison....Root has torn that top England batting stats list to bits this week...he should go on past Cook if he stays fit & on the money
Cook 12,472 runs / 33 100s
Root 8182 runs / 19 100s
Another 4K test runs, you’d imagine would need to be playing for about another 5 years. Can easily see him playing for that long and probably a bit longer. He doesn’t seem like the type to lose his body anytime soon either. Just depends on his form and desire at this point. Don’t see why not.
He's always had a dodgy lower back, but I think it's one of those injuries that he's always going to have to manage. The sort that won't ever go away, but equally won't ever get so bad that it keeps him out for any length.
I'd definitely back him to beat Cook's record.
Quite a morning. SL 79-8 after England were all out for 344. England's spinners taking all the wickets!
England allowed the tail to wag again, they do it so often, quite a tricky total now with the openers we have
Wow...just woke to see us back in bat....

Probably allowed them 30 runs too many but Sri Lanka will feel they're 100 short.
Crawley gone. England 17-1.
Shame, that was a nice little start by Crawley but you get a good ball like that early in your innings and you're done.
Do we reckon we'll finish this off here today
Wouldn't be surprised if we threw this away. Hopefully Root keeps up his form cos I'm not backing anyone else to score a steady 50+ in the 4th innings
I'm looking forward to seeing a replay of their winnings must have been a shambles

And obviously some good spin bowling from us
fair play to bess and leach.
Lanka still very much can win this. about 50/50. we have made an ok start under the circumstances here.
Giving their spinners are better than ours or at least one of them is they've got a fair chance of taking his down here
Joe Root will be happy with this, we've been 14/2, 12/2 and 5/2 so far in this series. Up to 35 now with Sibley in nose bleed territory of double figures
Kallis has shrunk 2 inches since i last visited his wiki page
absolute hero love having him around the england set up
