The point you are missing Thorgen, is that where possible we should be looking to clean up pollution and the air that we breath.
That is not going to happen overnight, but we are on the journey to a better future for everyone. Yes even you.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I agree but a better future doesn't mean a robotic nanny society where I have no freedom to do what I want. Smokers have a right to smoke if they want to and so long as they don't interfere with the rights of others (by complying with rules) then stop the moaning. Bringing up smoking on a thread about global warming is a bit of a stretch.
Can't wait for the legalisation/decriminalisation of sensimilla as well. Don't step on the grass bro.
The cost of EV's?
while the initial cost can be more expensive, the running costs and maintenance are far cheaper. so the price over time actually balances out. Of course prices for EV's will continue downward as battery costs fall.
Eventually, EV's will be a no brainer.
Thorgen you can smoke all you like, I really couldn't care less, as long as you are respectful to others.
Smoking was not bought up by me, but it's banning in public places was out of respect for others. Banning ICE vehicles I agree is far more wide reaching. But an important step forward for society.

No one seems to mention costs when this topic comes up.
Are they giving them away where you live?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And the also fail to mention the fact the earth will be pillaged to get the mined materials for the batteries or the fact the power grid which already is close to capacity will need more stations, so ergo either more pollution or nuclear, though I believe there’s been some strides in hydro and wave power.
That said, I think with few alternatives it’s probably the way to go. What happened to the hydrogen alternatives they were knocking up?
What about some of the materials used to make the batteries.
Is the total rape of Africa a price worth paying?

😂😂😂
simple fact is that it's less damaging for the environment for people to continue to use their existing fossil fuel powered car than it is to switch to a new electric car.
problems not even started to be addressed yet: cobalt in batteries. if everyone in the uk switched to electric cars, the amount of cobalt required to make the batteries just for the uk would outstrip the annual GLOBAL supply.
if everyone switched to electric cars, the uk isn't even close to having the generating capacity to cover it, and still won't be in 10 years time, not to mention that the distribution network can't cope with that amount of supply either.
they're now looking at dredging the seabeds to increase the global cobalt supply. just how much more damage to the environment is that going to cause?
whilst improvements to batteries should continue to be researched, along with the reduction/elimination of cobalt from them. it's simply the wrong tech for the job.
what the governments should be encouraging is the development of the hydrogen power cell.
that's the future. once that's mainstream, all you battery car owners are going to find the government starts charging 'green taxes' on battery powered cars to try to get you to switch to hydrogen.

So we are back to that old chestnut mining being a problem? as if drilling for oil, transporting it around the world, and burning it in cars is somehow better?
Nobody is saying electric cars are perfect, but there is no denying they are much much better, in so many ways. and of course unlike oil, these materials can be recycled.
The power argument is another pit people fall into. Our grid can easily support the uptake of EV's.
Our power needs actually fell, thanks to more efficient appliances, energy saving lightbulbs, and people fitting solar.
This is what forward thinking can do.
Now as for power generation, People seem to have no idea, what is actually powering our country, and what future power generation will look like. It is not a problem, and EV's could ironically far from stressing the grid help support it.
Oh as for Hydrogen, there are many issues with Hydrogen, not least of which, it is not particularly green. It will play a role, but is definitely not the future of general transport.

problems not even started to be addressed yet: cobalt in batteries.
There was a lot wrong in your post, but I will just pick out this. Cobalt is a problem in batteries, the biggest problem is cost, even though it makes up only a small percentage of a modern Lithium Ion battery. So as you say is actively being eliminated from battery chemistries.
In fact Tesla are already using a battery with no Cobalt in there chinese made EV's.
Also I find it strange Cobalt is only an issue now, when one of the biggest users of Cobalt is the oil industry. but hey lets just ignore that shall we.

It's like the "all lives matter" crowd who only piped up when BLM did. Then it turned out with the refugees, covid and free school meals that indeed the only life that mattered was their own.
And yeah, hydrogen is a load of mince. At least for private transport.
I literally have no idea why we don't have a dedicated EV section, there is soo much happening, and so much disinformation and ignorance.
It is probably one of the biggest topics around, I post a tiny fraction of what is really going on.
You're just telling us what the government and mainstream media don't want us to know!
It's all part of a grand scheme to get rid of free choice and free movement. First electric cars then autonomous cars that can't be manually overridden so they can then control our movements. And track us. The government will get bribes from Tesco to get the vehicles to travel there instead of Lidl and the owner can't change it cos it's autonomous.
It all starts with 5g being injected into us through the so called covid vaccine. Have any of you actually SEEN covid? We are told it's all around us. In the air. Yet no one has ever actually seen it!
