yeah that red card doesn't really impact us much. Shame for Moutinho though

Regarding Moutinho's red card Spanles, pretty sure we cant appeal as it was a 2nd yellow rather than a straight red.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Guess you are right. I can never understand the logic of what you can appeal and what you can’t
Wolves have evidently turned down the opportunity to sign Hulk on a free because of his age and wage demands
He is evidently been on £450k a week!
Time to abandon this back four crap. Revert to our better 3-4-3 or 3-5-2. It hasn't worked and we still aren't scoring enough goals.
Don't think we should abandon anything, we absolutely MUST have other systems we can play. Overall though I don't see that we are any different now than we were prior to the switch. Don't score much and generally lethargic.
The problem is not the tactical shape. It's the fact that our only truly world class player has a fractured skull.
It's that simple.
I dunno about that. No doubt losing Jimenez doesn't help but we often see a game pass him by until he has that one sniff. I think our main problem is that Nuno is a defensive minded manager and doesn't know entirely how to get us playing a better offensive style. We play a very slow temp for the most part.
Plenty of people saying Semedo had a good game, I thought he did well going forward and did a decent job on Grealish but both grealish and McGinn got round the back of him in the box.
He's different to Doherty going forward but we definitely miss his incisiveness around the box and his goals.
I don't think Semedo was poor or is poor but I also don't think he is ever really a stand out and for the money and the club he came from he should be dominating that side of the pitch.
I don’t think playing in a back 4 formation sees Semedo at his best, nor does it Coady, nor would it Ait Nouri and nor would it have done Doherty.
The decision for Nuno is whether the team is stronger overall with 3 or 4 at the back
Much as I have been an advocate for us needing to adapt and have a change of system I do agree with DJ that I don't think the squad we have is or was built to play a back four.
I've said this a few times, are we not capable of playing both within a 90 minute period as play dictates.
For example, today we could easily have switched to a back 5/3 by just switching Dendonker into defence, or even Traore, though I wouldn't advocate that.
Or would that confuse our players even more than theirs?
I think we could change formation or players during the game but today if you look at the bench there was very little we could have changed that would have made us more likely to get a goal. We have previously had the likes of Silva, Traore or Podence on the bench who could have come on and sparked the attack. Now because of Raul being out and because we are playing 4231 they are all on from the beginning and we have no other attacking options
Having just caught MOTD highlights, Luiz’s first booking never should have been, nor Moutinho’s second. Don’t think either can be appealed, but to me both could be called clear and obvious errors.
Thought Silva shows a lot of promise, pity he doesn’t have the luxury of a few easier games to get up to speed. I think we’re going to have a few uncomfortable games coming up as we adjust without Jimenez
It's time star of the show, Mike Dean was officially reined in. To blow for 38 fouls and issue 11 yellow cards in one game is outrageous. With a decent referee this could have been a much more entertaining game.
The refereeing was ridiculous, Dean was having one of those days he has from time to time when he just can't let the game flow. It's as if he has a row with his Mrs in the morning and takes it out on the game.
Thing is we created enough clear cut chances to have won ther game comfortably, had we taken them all the talk of formations and set ups would have been academic. Even with Jota, Doherty and Jimenez we weren't really scoring enough goals, and nobody is taking up the slack in the squad except maybe Neto to a degree.
I was quite impressed with Silva, did his job well but as Hoddle mentioned in commentary he doesn't look like a target man yet. Thought Saiss had a good game too much more decisive in his play than Boly had been of late.
I don't think there's a lot wrong, back 4 or back 5, we need to convert our chances.
I do think that’s our Achilles heel. Even with Raul we looked like a team that wouldn’t score many to me and that’s only worse now. Last year we got 51 league goals and 28 of those came from Jimenez, Jota and Doherty.
Neto, Traore and Podence are all very good players but natural goalscorers they ain’t. I thought we defended well yesterday but generally we haven’t looked as solid at the back with 4231 as we looked with 343
So at the moment we look weaker than last season in both attack and defence which doesn’t augur well. We need some addition in January but until then does Nuno go back to a solid defence and try to nick some points or do we continue in this set up and hope we find more goals
I agree Oldgold. Although we didnt play overly well, we did create enough good chances to win the game and we limited Villa to very little. If Fabio Silva's effort had hit the inside of the post or Dendoncker had hit one of his chances into a corner; no one would be talking about a chance in formation.
I would also argue, that in a game like that; replacing an attacking player with a defensive player to go to a back three is doing the opposite of solving our offensive problems.
It wasn’t a dirty game yesterday, more niggly, so 11 yellows and 2 reds is ridiculous. To be fair to Dean most of the 38 fouls were correctly called but refs make a problem for themselves by feeling the need to book a player every time he fouls. I didn’t think Moutinho’s second card was even a foul
I think we will definitely bring in a loan striker in January. However, even without the injury to Raul, this season was going to be a season of transition.
We are far too predictable and one dimensional. I don't like to admit it, but we have become quite hard to watch, especially at home.
We are likely to finish mid table with the current squad and injury problems, Nuno has a "free hit" now to find a different way of playing and identify two or three quality additions for next summer.
2021/2022 is going to be a big year for Wolves.
I feel that some of our problems come from midfield where there is so little creativity. We don't have a rampaging player there who gets forward with the ball and opens up defences, realising the forwards.
Unfortunately, as I have mentioned before, we always seem to go back before we move forwards.
On another theme, does Greasy Jack give lessons to the rest of his team on how to fall over as soon as somebody looks at them.
Podence looking an unhappy man judging from his 3 Instagram posts today. One showing a foul given against him when he clearly played the ball. One showing Moutinho’s second yellow which probably wasn’t even a foul. And thirdly an incident when Grealish brought down Traore in their area in the 85th minute which Wolves players believe was a stonewall penalty
I've ben saying for some time now Boston that we lack a creative midfield player. We do have one in Vitinha, but the 20 year old hasn't been given any game time in the league. I also stated some time ago that having so many players from one country, sometimes isn't a good thing.
I'm not sure why we switched to a back 4, when for two seasons we were quite solid defensively.
Nuno, at some point, has to address the problem of our lack of goals. We seem to be having the chances, but for whatever reason, don't seem to be able to put them in the net.
This season will be mediocre and may not even be a top half finish, but an addition of a good loan or two in January could be beneficial.
However, having a defensive minded coaching staff, I doubt we're ever going to be a free scoring side.
Can you explain how having players from the same country, sometimes has a negative impact on the team please?
Presumably, having a coach from that same country is a double whammy?

----------------------
These might be the two most confusing, contradictory paragraphs I have read in quite some time.
The answer to the second paragraph is the first paragraph. Nuno is trying to make us more of a threat attacking wise and I think most would say our play generally since changing formations is a bit more attacking and we are creating more chances. The formation will never have an impact on finishing though.
