A Premier League statement released on Monday afternoon read: "Manchester City lodged a request with the Premier League today to rearrange the game following an increase in positive Covid-19 test results received by the club this morning, on top of the cases reported on Christmas Day.
"This rise has created uncertainty and the Premier League Board received medical advice that the match should be postponed. The Board agreed to rearrange the game as a precaution, and further testing will now take place Tuesday.
"The decision has been taken with the health of players and staff the priority. The Premier League continues to have full confidence in its protocols and rules, and the way in which all clubs are implementing them.
"The League wishes those with COVID-19 a safe and speedy recovery and will rearrange the postponed fixture against Everton in due course."

Of course it's true, even basic Track and Trace would tell all the other players to self isolate for 10 days even if they had tested negative.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Plenty of PL players have tested positive and gone into self isolation, whilst the rest of the squads they are involved in, continued to play games.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Including City against Newcastle and previous games where players have contracted of been in contact with infected people whilst on international duty. - Mahrez, Laporte, Bernardo, Gundogan etc,
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You need to decide what the actual point your trying to make is. 😂😂😂
My point?
Days after the trip to Arsenal, 2 players tested positive. Today another 5 tested positive, tommorrow it could be another 10.
Would it really be a responsible act to let players who potentially have the virus play against a team who haven't got it?

City are on a 10 game unbeaten run, have the best defence in the league and would have gone 2nd with a win tonight.
You would have to be thick as pigshit to honestly think the club were somehow avoiding the game.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
46 hours in between two games is ridiculous though.
It seems Liverpool fans were secretely delighted with our fixture congestion which could explain their outrage.when the game was called off.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly the same time difference to the minute never mind the hour as your opponents.
Only team that had any advantage would have been City with their superior squad and lack of injuries.Everton would have been without Richarlidson,Digne,Allan,Rodriguez and possibly Keane.

Some weird obsessions with Liverpool on here.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Seems its a bit off for fans to talk about the 11th hour cancellation of probably the biggest game of the weekend.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
When they are being as wilfully ignorant (well, I hope it’s wilful) as some posts on here and elsewhere, then yes it is more than a bit off (I don’t mean you there, btw).
The premier league statement, that clearly wasn’t fact given they approved Newcastle’s game to be postponed in similar circumstances and numbers affected too.
Thankfully too, given how ridiculous a position that was. Perhaps seeing how badly affected a few of the Newcastle players were by it will soften that stance even further, it should do.
Compare Everton’s statement to Villas as well. I get they have to say that to appease fans due to go to an extent, but the idea that they’d have been happy to play risking an outbreak to themselves too is just moronic.

So first of all I tell you that the PL had previously said teams would have to fulfill fixtures, even if players weren't available due to covid 19 infection, you say that was about injuries and not covid.
You then say all players would need to self isolate due to basic track and trace rules, which also hasn't been the case with other teams who have had players test positive, and now you say it would be irresponsible to play a game, even if the players involved had tested negative.
As I said, pick a point, any point. 😂
Everton are asking for clarification off the PL as it was their decision, not City's.

Far from a deliberate ploy but as unintentional as it is the blame lies on City. Everton now have to fit in this game later on in an already congested season. I struggle to believe a club with the wealth City have couldn't field a team tonight.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I have to ask, is this a wum or a genuine comment?
It’s not about not being able to field a team tonight, now was it about that when Newcastle had their game postponed.
You don’t really need explaining why, surely?

City should be forced to forfeit considering they asked for a postponement despite having the ability to suit 14 players for the match.
A champions league club with all of those players and they can’t field a full squad? So what if a couple of your players are scrubs.
Liverpool have had a million injuries and covid infections and we still played matches with a depleted squad.
