Draw

Further to that RJC, I think both sides will draw.

Type of game we need to go 4 at the back for. Would like to see Vitinha play in the three behind the striker with Podence and Neto. Silva up top.

Rui
Semedo Coady Saiss Kilman
Neves Moutinho
Podence Vitinha Neto
Silva

I wouldn't be adverse to Otasowie starting in midfield either if one of Moutinho or Neves need resting. He would provide a bit of urgency and pressing.

Agree with that lineup Tam but either Dendoncker (if fit) or Otasowie to start for Moutinho and after his performance yesterday I would seriously consider Hoever to start instead of Semedo.

Whilst Hoever was good yesterday, he did have a few lapses in the first half where Rashford got in behind him. He also benefitted massively from Coady coaching him through the game, which won't be as easy in the back four.

Semedo adds more going forward and is coming off the back of his best game for Wolves against Spurs. After yesterday's performance though, Hoever should be given more opportunities so we don't stifle his development. His potential is there for all to see, but he isn't currently as good a player as Semedo. He has the potential to be better than Semedo in the next few seasons; but he isn't there yet.

One option is that they play Semedo on the left and keep Hoever on the right if Nuno wants to keep Hoever in the team. We seem to have a lot of options at full back all of a sudden, with Jonny still to come back.

I think as Ait-Nouri and Hoever were both cramping up at the end of the game last night, they are likely to be rested for this one if possible.

First and foremost, thanks Gem for putting up this thread, so we don't have to read the crap comments from the United game.

I'm not sure I'd change the system against Brighton. For a start they don't offer the same threat going forward and Coady is much better suited in a back 3.

I'd stick with Hoever on the right and agree with Tam, that Semedo could be switched to the left, as I don't think Ait-Nouri is quite ready to start matches.

A lot will depend on whether any of our walking wounded are ready to return too.

My line up would be:-

Patricio

Saiss, Coady, Killman

Hoever, Neves, Vitinha, Semedo

Podence, Neto,

Silva

3-4-2-1 for me, but that could change if Dendoncker is fit again.

COYW.

The sort of game we generally lay an egg in and I think Brighton are actually better than their position suggests.

We have to take the game to them and four at the back is definitely the way to go but as before I don't see Nuno playing Aït-Nouri in a back four. Kilman perhaps could play there but seems Nuno hasn't fancied that either. So a back three is likely and that will be exactly what Brighton will be hoping.

Hopefully Traore finds himself on the bench

Strong chance this game doesn't go ahead

Why? The circuit breaker rumours?

If they put a two week break in now, it will likely be months before we start up again. Restrictions are likely to get more severe in the coming weeks, so I don't think they will be able to justify restarting and will keep pushing the date back.

Spurs Fulham has been pulled apparently.

Just seems inevitable Tam, looks a shambles in the lower leagues as well, over half the games postponed this midweek. FA Cup weekend looks doomed.

And yeah, could open up quite a can of worms regarding a restart.

Yup, Fulham have virus cases.

Apart from having no senior cover for Jimenez the other long standing problem we haven’t solved in the transfer window was that Boly, Saiss and Kilman are all much better on the left and we don’t really have a centre back since Bennett moved on who is more natural on the right. The experiment of putting Coady there worked last night although I’m sure he’d be more comfortable in the centre.

Thought Hoever was very impressive last night and he looks genuine competition for Semedo. Thought Ait Nouri gave the ball away too much in the first half but did better after the break despite cramping and picking up a shoulder injury. Vitinha did well first half but faded out of it before he was taken off.

Suspect most of those rested last night will be back at Brighton. Have to wait and see if Boly, Dendoncker or Marcal are fit to return. If they aren’t I think I would go with;

Patricio
Coady, Saiss, Kilman
Semedo, Neves, Otasowie, Ait Nouri
Podence, Silva, Neto

I don't think Boly deserves his place back in any system regardless

If we go three at the back, there is a good chance this could be a 0-0 like two of the last three times we have played Brighton. We haven't beaten them since our return to the top flight and have only scored in one game out of the four (which finished 2-2). Each game we have generally dominated and created very little.

If there is a team we should try something different against, it is most certainly Brighton.

Good that we have options now even with injuries, albeit young players in what we must think of as a transition season, I would like to see more of Otasowie as agree with previous comment we dont win the ball high enough in midfield and need a Yaha Toure type- what a player he was, I have always considered Boly one of our top players-any suggestions as to why he has lost some form-I dont think he has been quite as poor as some do but there seems something not quite right , I am really excited by these young players, but a seasoned centre forward in January may be a plan

posted on 30/12/20

Boly to me is best suited to playing on the left so it’s no surprise he hasn’t looked as good on the right. Just as Kilman looked poor in the one game he played there and Saiss also when he had a game or two there. We should have brought in a right sided centre back in as soon as Bennett was sidelined.

If/when Boly is reverted to the left I am sure he would be as good as ever. As it stands he has probably made a better fist of playing on the right than Saiss or Kilman would and that’s why he got that gig

350 odd comments on the match threads ?

Just sayin

It should be remembered that being right footed is not the only reason that Coady looks more comfortable on the right than the others. I seem to remember that before Nuno changed him to the centre of a back 3, Kenny Jackett played him as a right back.

Yes gem I think the change of Coady to the right was a good one given the players we have available. Although I think his best position would still be in the centre

Saiss was as good last night, as Coady to date in the middle of a back 3

Yeah, Saiss was excellent.
