why go for avram when they can just wait for WBA to lose a few more games and then go for large sam?

He's made 7 signings in the summer (one out on loan). It's going to take time for them to bed in. Lampard needs time. If he is afforded it, the team will reap the rewards next season when everyone is used to the league and knows each others strengths and weaknesses.

i've heard this argument about solskjaer, but i'm not entirely sure that opposition fans wumming or cracking lame gags is a great gauge of a manager.

LVG

Word of warning- you will become Robb's second least favourite team after United.

Its not good if Man Utd fans are defending Lampard more than Chelsea fans though.

As a general rule it’s kind of true. When your rivals want you to keep your manager it’s because they don’t want you to get better by replacing him.

posted on 3/1/21

For me it isn’t about what I want, it’s about the logic of getting rid of a manager who’s team were top of the league five weeks ago.

Look at Ole and Arteta. Few weeks ago, it was Ole out. Now we're in a "title race". Just last month, Arsenal fans wanted him sacked. Now they believe they can get Europa. Lampard's turn now.

Not only would it be hilarious, it would also be more of a shiiitshow than it is now

Pretty much this.

Klopp's turn next when we batter Liverpool

But what United and Arsenal fans thought about their managers is irrelevant. Roman Abramovich has higher standards for his football club than those fans do for their own.

I guess the point is how quickly narratives have been flipping this season. Mainly because of how tight the league is - a few wins on the bounce takes you from mid table to within touching distance of the top.

That may be, but I think Lampard’s always been on thinner ice than people thought. He’s managing Chelsea, a club owned by Roman Abramovich, he’s not gonna put up with his club being embarrassed just because other clubs are inconsistent. If anything, that’s even more reason for Roman to be piiiiissed off with their form - these have often been the kind of seasons where Chelsea click a win a league title, despite not being expected to outside the club.

That may be true; but, as I keep saying about Solskjaer, I don't know for a fact that anyone we could get in (Klopp and Guardiola being quite obviously unavailable) would actually lead to major, immediate improvements. Same with Chelsea - if they sack Lampard and bring in, say, Nagelsmann, he'll get his good results and he'll also go through his bad spells, when fans are wondering if he's really any better than Lampard.

Not all of Solskjaer, Lampard and Arteta will make it as top managers; maybe none of them will. But I honestly think that the reality for United, Chelsea and Arsenal at the moment is that they're fighting for third and fourth. At the moment, Chelsea look vulnerable so Lampard does as well, but if he does get third or fourth, he's probably done about as well as can be expected at the moment.

I can see the point. Abramovich is probably not interested in the long-term rebuild with which many United fans are willing to entrust Solskjaer. I personally wouldn't call that "higher standards" but I can definitely see what Darren means and I don't think it's particularly controversial.
