Lacazette missed a big chance in a big game as usual. The guy isn’t reliable and his goal record this season is diabolical, 3 goals in 15 PL games

I saw an interview with him just before the game and he said he was grateful to the team after the first leg cos usually when he gets sent off the team gets battered

Self aware enough to know he's always getting sent off but somehow deflecting the blame onto the rest of the team

Well because he had the armband on and should be setting the tone. Everyone else was crap too though besides Tierney & Martinelli.

That's harsh.

We've finished in 8th place for 2 seasons running now. And then packed the side with 20-23 year olds from front to back.

This side is still at least 2 years away from hitting their stride. Probably longer depending on how we handle the transition from Auba and Laca.

In my opinion, we're well ahead of schedule.

I guess time will tell.

Both Unai Emery and Arteta have done a lot to give our raw kids a push.

Maybe all we need in the end is someone else to swoop in and add some polish.

Let's be honest, how many of our MF players will get into pool, city, Chelsea or City teams.

The recruitment has been shocking

Since Santi we have seen the likes of xhaka, Guendouzi, Torreira and Lokonga.

All of these players shouldn't really be starting for us

Auba won’t go to Saudi Arabia. He will sooner sit out his contract.

What did we think of Lokonga today? Still don't think he has the thing about him where he takes a game by the scruff of the neck but I think he's generally pretty good. Still a mistake or two to iron out

I thought Lokonga was alright today. Very raw obviously and has nobody at the club to admire or look up too. Unsure whether he'll make it.

We're halfway through the season and our two main strikers have a total of 7 League goals between them.

Vlahovic might be a bit out of our reach, but we desperately need a proper striker up front. We can't keep relying on committee input from midfield.

At this point, I wouldn't even turn my nose up at Jermaine Defoe who's currently out of contract.

Arteta on Tomiyasu:

"He's done incredible. We didn't want him to play but at the moment he knew that [Cedric and Chambers were unavailable] he said he wanted to play."

Tried his best to basically be the whole midfield on his own, unfortunately it would be a big ask to even the top midfielders in the World to succeed with the two beside them being Odegaard & Smith-Rowe - one of them sure, but not both, as much as I like both of them.

Fair, especially with ESR not being match fit

Lokonga is a bench player

Shouldn't be anywhere near the first team

I agree Lokonga should be a bench player with senior players for him to learn from. Unfortunately that's not our MF

Squad depth / depth of quality really hit us tonight. Yeah we had most of our first team players out there but equally a lot of them didn't look right and were clearly not ready/fit for this game.

He is the same age as Guendouzi and I know who I would pick

You're absolutely right. 2 years will not be enough time to get us to title-challenging status. But it should be enough time for us to build a solid core out of this group of lads.

Same thing Klopp did. He went to work building a solid core over about 3 seasons, and then brought in the likes of VVD and Alison to provide the finishing touch.

Fair enough.

But there's still plenty of arguments in Arteta's favour. He has enjoyed a sense of goodwill from the fan base. Which has allowed the club the freedom to write-off at least 2 whole seasons and make some strategic long term decisions for once.

Arsenal fans are a fickle bunch. I don't think we would have given any other manager this kind of leeway.
