West Ham - Arsenal FC- Match Thread

This will be a very tough test. Think Newcastle have lost once at home all season when they were reduced to 10 men, 0-2 down, around the 20th minute against Liverpool - and still made it a nail biter for 'Pool till the end of the match.

They're very physical, and have strong runners all over the park. A draw would be a good result for us, given our current level, but certainly won't help us in the title race, to whatever extent a "race" still exists.

Title race ended with those successive West Ham and Southampton draws. In my opinion, there would still have been all to play for till the end if we didn't drop those 4 points, even after the City thrashing. All it takes is one bad day at the office for City. Now, we're effectively hoping they have 2 or 3 bad days.

I share your sentiments.

So in that sense, I can understand those saying we "bottled" it. At this stage of the season, given our ambitions, you can't be dropping those kind of points against the bottom teams. If I didn't see City as comfortably superior to us (which they demonstrated in their fixtures against us), would certainly have been depressing to lose the title having dropped those kind of points. I'm only comforted by the fact that City are clearly the best team in Europe, so there's no shame losing to that level of sustained excellence. Should still have done better though.

In the likely scenario City win their remaining matches, we would have had to win 15 of our last 16 games to win the title, which is kind of ridiculous.

Aye. Spot on.

Got no interest in the top 4 race but he does really make me want United to fall apart.

Yeah, but I still believe City will drop points at least once by the end of the season. And we won't be able to profit from it due to those West Ham and Southampton games.

I think Arsenal supporters are sad because we were top of the table for most of the season. Losing it in the last few games the way we did looks like a bottle job. As Sheriff pointed out we competed with a finanical doped City team in a title race no one would have believed we are involved in the first place.

As long as United were close to be in the title race he put Arsenal down at any opportunity. Now that we likely lose out he is saying "I told you so". Full time idiot.

Interesting that Newcastle are going to use the same tactics as Man City. Long balls to Isak and Wilson.

Sadly I agree. After the City game I said I could see them dropping points in at least 2 of their last 7 games but that I couldn’t see where our next win was coming from. I hope City just go on to win their remaining games so it makes those slip ups easier to take. (Obviously I am also hopeful that they lose their last 4 games too)

It’s the first time they have both started together supposedly

City has also the "easier" run of games in comparison. Some of our players lost form in the run in and we couldnt compensate as they can. That said City have almost a full squad available.

posted on 7/5/23

My guess is they will try to overrun us in the first few minutes.

Isaak & Wilson is extremely attacking. Gonna get beat here I’m afraid guys.

Long balls do work against nervous CBs. Pep used Haaland and De Bruyne. But the key was De Bruyne know how to drop deep and make that 2 at the top work. Not sure how Isak and Wilson will work.

Can we keep the ball at our feet in midfield and winning the second balls there will be massive.

posted on 7/5/23

Keep the ball and we win the game. It's all about possession and keeping the crowd out of it. No fighting or bad tackles. We will need to be very disciplined.

Feck of Gallas. You were never a gunner.

Jorgy instead of Partey, All about possession.

What a coincidence that Gallas, the face of our last title collapse, is a pundit on Sky today 🤔
