Ace - hindsight is a brilliant thing, but aside from the timing of sackings of Poch and Jol you can make a very credible argument for all.
While FSG have done a great job but had the infrastructure to spend a lot more money without leaving themselves so thin due to the vast revenue Liverpool have had over us until recently
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The appointment of Hoddle yes, but Santini felt ill thought out and I think ENIC got lucky with Jol coming in as back up and doing the job he did. The sacking of him was poor. Ramos again there was logic in his appointment, and the appointment of Redknapp I said at the time was a very astute decision. I was against Redknapp being sacked at the time and even more against him being replaced by AVB. Sherwood was a meh moment, and I think they got lucky again with Poch who according to all reports was 3rd choice behind LVG and FDB. Having got lucky and appointed a man that took us to a level we could only have dreamed of during the 00’s they sacked him and replaced him with a hasbeen (another Chelsea reject like AVB). ENIC have made 3 relatively successful managerial appointments in 20 years and I’d say two of them have been more by luck than design. But as I said already I’m ENIC in, I just want a restructure and a competent, progressive replacement for Mourinho who is quite obviously taking us backwards.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yup which is really my point, it’s tough to be too critical of them regarding managerial decisions because bar Santini I think all the decisions made sense. You can’t blame them for competent successful managers who achieved things before and after Spurs for not working at the club as that’s just the reality of football. I even think every sacking is justifiable (even if I wouldn’t have done it) it’s just the timing of the Poch and Jol ones which were frustrating. Not many clubs out their with a better managerial record than spurs.
You can understand Jose's appointment:
1. Our biggest failure has been getting over the line. Jose gets teams over that line.
2. We have players hitting their peak who will want success and not another project, or young manager who may or may not prove himself to be the real thing.
All appoitnments are a gamble. Currently this one isnt paying off. I would say that to keep this squad together and build from here we need to achieve UCL AND win something. If we do not do both, some of the stars will be looking away and questioning what we can achieve in the remainder or their careers. I am thinking here of the likes of Kane, Son, Lloris as the big ones.I question Ndombele's attititude. I think he would go if offered something better and might 'play up' if prevented from going. Basically it would be a new era dawning.
My view on outcomes:
1. Top 4 & Cup - Everyone is happy. and believes we can go on to greater things.
2. Europa League win, top 6. A big trophy and UCl next season, again everyone has belief.
3. Top 4. No cups. The promise of UCL gives enough belief that next season is still attractive and hopeful.
4. Top 6 & Carabo - The bigger players will start to question what we can achieve. A trophy gives a bit of hope but no UCL again. Borderline as to whether Jose stays or goes & it would be a summer of speculation which is rarely good for the next season. Dont think Levy would sack him at this point though.
5. Top 6 (or worse). No trophy. - Jose has to go and in all likelihood this will signal a rebuild and the departure of one or 2 big names. Back to being a project with a younger more progressive manager building for the future.
i was 'interested' in how it would go with Jose, praying we'd get a customary great season with him and win a notable trophy, still possible of course.
didnt know at the time Levy was silly enough to offered a 3 and a half year contract not 2 and a half, with no clauses in it.

On point 5. The questions remain. Does Jose have a performance related break out clause? If not can we afford to sack him in the current climate?
Is a young progressive manager available or do we look at someone like Rafa who has a similar CV and is big name? Obviously the football will be similar to Jose.
Can Levy unearth a manager out there similar to Wenger and is a total leftfield appointment?
Good summary though Devon.
@ £15m a year, God knows if that's success related or whether he has a performance clause.
Levy is shrewd and Jose's self-confident so it wouldnt surprise me if it were success related.

Which scenario would you boys want? Bear with me on this please before you all shout No 1.
If you get top 4 and win the league cup. Then great but this would mean that Jose his toxicity and avoidance of any players who don't track back and defend deep would surely remain and will drag your club backwards.
Top 4 is 30-40m in the coffers which is nice but do you honestly think you'll win it next season? The league cup is a trophy and a start but still a bit 'so what' In my view for Spurs to kick-on and the only way old baldie wil agree to this is if you have an appalling end to the season and force his hand.

not sure theres been much toxicity etc. Media like to play things up, esp with Jose, but the dressing room seems fine, theres no war with the Board. Top 4 and a cup no fan could complain as thats something never achieved by us in the EPL era.
UCL is way more than £40m these days (assuming fans in). We made £90m for making the final + matchday!

If we get Top 4 and a league cup that would suggest the players have brought in to Jose and your whole toxicity rhetric is debunked.

Top 4 would mean £80 odd million. Our chances of competing next season would vastly improve if spent wisely.

Hi Dan
scenario 1 or 2. 3 would be good and unexpected but obvs esp for spurs a trophy added means more i would say, as EL option gets you CL footy too.
the others are meh or rubbish.

Which scenario would you boys want? Bear with me on this please before you all shout No 1.

not sure theres been much toxicity etc.

Don't think Kane will leave - he's in that weird Zaha situation where he's very valuable to his club, but pretty poor value for anyone who would have to match Spurs' valuation

Ok my bad. Thought Jose had fallen out with Bale, Danny Rose, Ndombele, and Dele?
