Would rather win the Europa cup hands down.

The Europa is a guaranteed place in the CL... the fa cup is a guaranteed place in the Europa.... why would anyone e want the latter?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Because I want to win it for its own sake, not for what it will bring. And I think we will be in the CL anyway.
Plus the Europa doesn't excite me.

While I wouldn’t turn my nose up at it the Europa is a 2nd rate competition.

The magic of the FA Cup is incomparable, and in normal conditions, in front of the crowd, I would prefer it. But in an empty an stadium I’d rather win the Europa and improve our European record.

OP why do you prefer the fa cup to the Europa?

Probably because I'm an old git, and used to love it.
I know it's not the same now, particularly this year, but it's still the premier English cup competition, and the Europa feels like a consolation prize. Worth having, but it's only the CL place that makes it so.

We have called up:

DDG
Henderson

Maguire
Lindelof
Shaw
(Not sure about Bailly)

Pogba
McT
VdB
Bruno

James
Greenwood
Rashford
Martial

Thankfully and sensibly the South American qualifiers are all postponed.

I’d rather stop City winning the treble or quadruple.

The europa will probably be easier to win. We could have easily been in last years final as well.

The odd one of those might be a bonus. Donny, for instance. Rashford probably won’t play too much.

Just out of interest, how many do Liverpool have called up? Must be 4 or 5 at most. Jammy gits

Happy to win either cup but Europa is probably more winnable. Interesting to know which is considered more desirable these days, the FA Cup’s reputation has dropped significantly in recent years while the Europa/UEFA has always been considered the lesser European trophy but now offers CL football. I’d imagine in other countries the Europa is rated higher than other domestic cups.

I also think the Europa is more winnable. But that makes me want us to win the FA Cup even moreso tbh.

I can’t see anyone else stopping city from winning the cup so we have to win tomorrow and then make sure that happens!

No one think that the europa would be more desirable for any future signings?

Just think it's something that maybe more likely to get a worldwide (or certainly Europe wide) audience. And maybe more attractive to players looking to move to a bigger club?

I love the FA cup too but it's maybe not as recognisable abroad, being a local competition?

We need to go for both though and winning both would be great for our players to create a winning mentality.

I don't think it really makes a big difference. I can't think of any Europa League winners who have significantly strengthened off the back of winning it. Champions League football, which can be achieved without winning EL, financial prowess and to a lesser extent history of the club will always be the key factors for prospective signings.

Regardless, Ed, Judge et al will mess up the window, no matter how much money we have and who wants to come to us. Their incompetence makes any attraction from an EL win moot

I'm worried for tomorrow. Leicester had week to prepare and we had a tough game in Milan.

At start of the week I said we'd get through in one competition and not the other but I didn't know which.

Hopefully the positivity from Milan can carry us through however I think Leicester have to be favs in this situation.

Bookmarked, as I have a feeling about your posts after tomorrow's game

Yeah I was just wondering/asking the question really.

I just think maybe the EL has a bigger audience than the FA cup.

I always see it as a way of showcasing players who aren't the elite, yet, but may catch the eye in terms of potential and maybe it's served some clubs in making money from players who have looked decent.

Yeah tbf there is likely some truth in that. Sevilla have won it numerous times, but have often lost their best players. Drogba came to the fore in the Europa League with Marseille too I think.

Sorry if my precious comment came across a bit aggressively. Was more it got me thinking of our shambolic transfer business 🤣

Hopefully strong lineups from both sides. It's the FA cup, that used to mean something.

Totally agree.

Drogba played in both the CL and UEFA cup in his single season at Marseille, was great in both.

I’d much rather win Europa than the FA Cup, especially without fans.

However it would be nice to have a good go at both, and if we can beat city in the cup it would be wonderful.

posted on 21/3/21

Let's go for both. Strong team today please.

Our next three league games are Brighton, Spurs and Burnley. Get 7-9 points there and I'd say we're nearly there top 4 wise then we can concentrate on the cups a bit more.
