I've long maintained that it doesn't matter how intelligent you are, everyone's voice needs to be heard because a) the wisdom of crowds is useful b) society needs to work for everyone and therefore needs everyone's input c) it's possible to be too smart for your own good.

I wouldn't go as far as saying that stupid or un-learned people should be dictating the minutiae of policy, but they definitely should be involved in deciding the direction we're headed in.

It's amusing though when people try to use scientific studies to lord their intelligence over others

It’s a tough one. Who gets to draw the line? When it comes to expression of opinions, it’s better not to have a line other than inciting violence which is essentially what we have now.

With regards to stupid people all needing their voices heard, this is true, but the issue is it takes one smart person to manipulate a mass group of stupid people through lies (mainly). That's when it is dangerous. It is not necessarily the individual stupid person's voice that is being heard. It is the intelligent person through these individuals, who are being manipulated en masse.

There is a growing body of evidence that libertarians rank higher in IQ scores than both liberals and conservatives. What you might call a Republican or Conservative is actually a blend of two different types of voters - social conservatives and economic conservatives. The social conservative types do indeed rank lower on intelligence but that's offset by the higher intelligence economic conservative types (or what we might call libertarian, small government types). And when I say higher intelligence that covers cognition, abstract reasoning and verbal intelligence.

Your response above, though relevant and appreciated, kinda puts words into my mouth. You've broadened the issue to suit your argument. Perhaps you can directly oppose what I said instead of creating an idea of something which isn't exactly my point and disagreeing with that instead. Nothing you've said takes away from the fact that less intelligent people are naturally attracted by right wing views. Some righties on here are pretty smart guys, but the some are less so and they all espouse right leaning views.

Look at people like The Revolution is here, Manc Python and the likes. There are elements of rudeness, they're abusive, quick to anger, their posts and opinions do not always flow from one post to the next, they can move from one extreme to the other depending on what point they are making without even noticing their double standards whereas it's pretty obvious and basic to most other people. They speak with finality and never change their minds no matter what evidence you display, and over time it's clear that they just don't have the same propensity as others.

You can go to school and learn to express yourself articulately and look very smart. you can learn to look smart without actually being smart. Some people have jobs where they have to write well, use great english and grammar and learn how to get your point across effectively. All these can be learned at a school but there is an intelligence that cannot be taught in school. Some people never went to school, cannot write or read but you respect their intelligence when you observe for a while.

Well I think that has helped shape your views. I’m no fan of the MET either but I think if you had grown up in another area of the country you would notice that it’s much more of a ‘class’ thing than race.

If you’re a young male that grew up in the Wythenshawe Estate and you’re hanging around with your mates at night, police are going to be all over you.

I’ve lived in London mostly since 2001 but I grew up in Manchester

And I don’t think it’s ‘a race thing’ as much as you do. There’s stereotyping and racial bias that way but most of the stereotyping and bias is about ‘class’ imo.
