Sometimes supporters get a bit to hyped up over managerial appointments. Yes managers obviously have a fair bit of input to the running of the club, and the overseeing of players. But a manager can only do so much. It is the players out on the pitch and not the manager, so no matter how good or bad a manager is, the bottom line is if you haven`t got good players, then you aint going to be doing a lot.
Good players with me should always come before a good manager.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You couldn't be more wrong as far as I'm concerned. Great players will flatter any manager, sure, but great managers can get average players looking great. All of them. That's the difference. This is why I find it weird that clubs scoff at paying £20-30m to buy a manager out of his contract. If you take Poch as an example, look how he got the team purring. If he'd cost us £20m then it doesn't matter as he's probably added a total of £200m to the total squad value by making them better than they are. Same with Bissouma at Brighton. Great player but it has as much to do with Potter's coaching as it does the man himself. If Hughton was still there, Bissouma wouldn't be getting the attention he's deservedly currently getting. There's no doubt about that.

Would be an awful appointment, it would lead another season of being lucky to get a Europa League spot.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Who would you want then?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Rather Rodgers or Potter, they know the league and play good football and the team has good statistics. Especially Brighton, for a team lacking quality they create a lot of chances and perform well.
Ten Haag is nothing special, even De Boer has a better record with Ajax with a team that was average compared to the team Ten Haag has.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How does De Boer have a better record? He won 4 league titles in 6 years, whilst ETH is about to finish top for the 3rd time in 4 seasons, and his first season he took over in December and from that point picked up the most points than PSV but was playing catch up.
De Boer never got out of the CL group stage, ETH got to the SFs.
De Boer never got past the Europa League round of 16, ETH got to the quarter final this year
De Boer never won the Dutch cup, ETH has won 2.
De Boer had a 60% win percentage, ETH has a 73% win percentage.
A frankly baffling claim to say De Boer was better

Potter is also a great manager. If he had a striker who could finish then Brighton would have finished much higher. Watch their games and everyone of their players know what to do when they receive the ball and where to move.

yeah but can he do it away to Burnley in February?
My #1 choice has always been Bielsa, but I'm aware that's not realistic.
At this stage, of the realistic options, I would like to see Ten Hag take over. It has the feel of a good fit to me. I'd be happy with Potter, but I'd be MORE happy with Ten Hag.
The biggest positive decision Levy could possibly make, though, would be bringing in Rangnick as a sporting director/DoF, and committing the resources to a proper infrastructural investment with Rangnick given free rein to run it.
I think Potter would be better suited and more likely to really succeed at the top for us. ETH would be way more fun though and almost as good.

Levy needs to move quickly as the ST renewal deadline is at beginning of June.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
apparently before season ends
ETH fits the bill as the Dutch season finishes earlier than the PL and he only has one year left on his Ajax deal i think
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yea, I'm just saying he will not want ST holders waiting to renew.
My personal preference is Potter but I wouldnt be dissapointed with ETH.

I know what you're saying, before the end of the season is great time for the reason you say and also get to look at the players and put forward ideas earlier.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
On top of that I think ETH has done well elsewhere. Did a good job at Utrecht whereas FDB has seemingly failed in his other jobs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And he cites his time at Bayern II as a hugely influential time in his career - he learned a lot from Pep who was in charge of the first-team at the time. I think he did well in Bayern II's league for what it's worth as well

This. Ten Hag is a much better manager than F d Boer. He makes average player look better than they are.
Potter is also a great manager. If he had a striker who could finish then Brighton would have finished much higher. Watch their games and everyone of their players know what to do when they receive the ball and where to move.

My preference is Potter, but I watched MNF ages ago and they analysed Potters style and suggested that his team wouldn't be as attractive if he had a proper striker. Almost like he sacrifices goals for the style. Interesting and at least something to think about.

Hybrid Doos infamously lost his cool because we missed out on Abel Hernandez to Hull. He basis most of what he says off of Football Manager so I’d take what he says with three gallons of salt

I'll admit I didn't know much about ETH and thought he'd carry the same risk as FDB but reading up more on him he does look the better manager and ticks a few boxes for us.
Wouldn't be unhappy to get him.

yeah but can he do it away to Burnley in February?
