Would be an awful appointment, it would lead another season of being lucky to get a Europa League spot.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Rather Rodgers or Potter, they know the league and play good football and the team has good statistics. Especially Brighton, for a team lacking quality they create a lot of chances and perform well.
Ten Haag is nothing special, even De Boer has a better record with Ajax with a team that was average compared to the team Ten Haag has.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How does De Boer have a better record? He won 4 league titles in 6 years, whilst ETH is about to finish top for the 3rd time in 4 seasons, and his first season he took over in December and from that point picked up the most points than PSV but was playing catch up.
De Boer never got out of the CL group stage, ETH got to the SFs.
De Boer never got past the Europa League round of 16, ETH got to the quarter final this year
De Boer never won the Dutch cup, ETH has won 2.
De Boer had a 60% win percentage, ETH has a 73% win percentage.
A frankly baffling claim to say De Boer was better
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This. Ten Hag is a much better manager than F d Boer. He makes average player look better than they are.
Potter is also a great manager. If he had a striker who could finish then Brighton would have finished much higher. Watch their games and everyone of their players know what to do when they receive the ball and where to move.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
My preference is Potter, but I watched MNF ages ago and they analysed Potters style and suggested that his team wouldn't be as attractive if he had a proper striker. Almost like he sacrifices goals for the style. Interesting and at least something to think about.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think that problem goes away when you have Harry Kane
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yea I agree with this to be honest.
Interesting analysis about Potters tactical approach here:
https://youtu.be/rx6pR_R0FY4
The two sticking points for me with Potter is, how's he going to handle it at a bigger club with more pressure to deliver, more ambition, and manage bigger personalities. And is he going to be able to convince the players to get on board since he is not the biggest name.
I mean I'm sure he could do a good job given enough time, but Spurs is a significant step up from Brighton. I would hope he has a similar ambition and drive that Poch has.
ETH used to work with Pep for two years :
"Only once in his career has Pep made a mistake – in his first year at Manchester City when he completely underestimated the power and speed of the Premier League," Ten Hag told Voetbal International.
"He realised that you can't play the kind of football he loves without having a couple of physically strong athletes – and so he brought them in. So he's not a stubborn coach.
"Yes, he is stubborn in his philosophy, but not in the execution. And that makes him the best.
"Guardiola only wants to win games with beautiful football, just like his teacher Johan Cruyff."
Like the fact he recognises the physicality if the prem. The more I read about him the more he appeals.

Potter is contracted to Brighton until 2025. His compo would be more than ETH. Brighton's CEO is Paul Barber who used to be on the board at Spurs so one would hope he still has a decent relationship with Levy..

I remember reading about Sherwood telling Mousa Dembele in training he would play for Real Madrid one day. Imagine out of all the ways to motivate a player on the training ground saying to a player "you're too good for this club mate, save yourself for Real Madrid!"
I mean what an absolute tool of manager and there are some right thickos on here who would love him back LOL
As for Mason, defo needs someone to learn from. Still can't believe he was our head of youth developement. I fear for our youth but hope he proves me wrong.

I'd like to hear more about this as I didn't see that one. On what basis are they explaining that? They don't play with a false nine like City. They've had a rotation of Maupay and Welbeck. The strikers have to work hard, sure, so I can understand why they might be out of position on occasion but Brighton's current position is down to woeful finishing rather than a lack of bodies in the box. Their ExG is consistently much higher than their goals output which would suggest it's not a system issue, it's a quality one. I don't know when this MNF was on but it sounds more like the era where they transitioned from the Hughton defensive style with Murray up top to the more cultured approach of Potter. There's always a period of transition when things don't work as well. I can't see how that opinion translates now though. They're having the chances, they're just not taking them. That's hard for Potter to change. The hardest thing to coach is putting the ball in the back of the net. Strikers either have that or they don't. He can control the amount of chances Brighton have, but converting those is down to quality and he hasn't really had that.
I think we should give Roy Keane the job, with Carragher as his assistant.
They both seem to know it all.
iirc carra was advocating for them to drop one of their creative players for another striker so that even if they're creating less chances they have more goal threats on the pitch
Don't agree with him though
If it's not Potter on Ten Hag then I think we're pretty facked.
Those two themselves are a bit of a gamble, although guaranteed entertaining football at least.
Some of the names I've heard like Southgate and Martinez would be a disaster.
If the alternative is Martinez than yeah we're faaacked

Would be nice to have a manager appointed before investing in the first team no ?

this has really made me laugh. What on earth is the logic of getting a load of players in and then the manager is told "Ere,ya! Work with that lot son"

Okay, I can see where you're coming from but redacting the word "before" from your second explanation is kind of geared to support your argument. You have to admit, whilst you really mean that any manager would need time and player investment before we can see any improvement, it could be interpreted that you're saying we need players through the door before a manager comes in.

I mean I'm sure he could do a good job given enough time, but Spurs is a significant step up from Brighton. I would hope he has a similar ambition and drive that Poch has.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Potter is contracted to Brighton until 2025. His compo would be more than ETH. Brighton's CEO is Paul Barber who used to be on the board at Spurs so one would hope he still has a decent relationship with Levy..

Would be an awful appointment, it would lead another season of being lucky to get a Europa League spot.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Who would you want then?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah he sounds like an intelligent and well learned bloke. It's a far cry from Tim "I don't do formations" Sherwood.
He'd be a good person for Mason to learn from.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I remember reading about Sherwood telling Mousa Dembele in training he would play for Real Madrid one day.

They both seem to know it all.
posted on 29/4/21
iirc carra was advocating for them to drop one of their creative players for another striker so that even if they're creating less chances they have more goal threats on the pitch

Wasn't that Les Ferdinand?
But yeah really unprofessional and stupid thing to say. Glad he's no longer with us. If he was here he'd be telling Kane to make the move to City or United.

there needs to be investment into the first team before any manager makes real change
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Would be nice to have a manager appointed before investing in the first team no ?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
this has really made me laugh.
