I’ve written to Jennifer Aniston, proposing that she spends a week tending to all my personal needs.

I’ll let you know how it goes.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

If you were going to turn up and have your way with her regardless of what she said, probably best someone did something to stop it other than a gentle gonae no dae that
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, probably best solution that. I mean, if I know I'm going to break the law irrespective, then I can blame everyone else for not stopping me from knowingly breaking the law.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think people who are knowingly breaking the law don't tend to care who is to "blame" because they don't give a fook.

I think the point is the gov were faced with a choice of do you want to make a big exception to your rules to let 10k people into the stadium (and make the club responsible for them), or do you want to take your chances with the whim of the mob? The gov took their chances with the mob and I can understand reasons for that both practical and political. You can say 10k was a ridiculous proposal, but if the estimate was a 15k strong mob then taking two thirds off it would have made it a lot easier to police. It would also have allowed 4 empty seats between each "guest" so reasonable covid measures could have been in place, while if they'd proposed a significantly lower number like 1000 then it would have made next to no difference to the size of the mob outside. Like I say, I can understand the reasons the proposal was turned down, but to say it was never feasible is a bit of a stretch. And if what they proposed wasn't feasible, then what could the club have done that would have made a significant difference?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Maybe someone can clarify this - the proposal was 10k on the day, and then allow 10k the next 4 days as well - so 50k over the 5 days?!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think you're right, to which the club were maybe expecting the gov to "compromise" and allow the 10k on the day to diffuse the powder keg and no more after that.

I'm not sure - I only saw the 10000 figure.

Of course it was a request too far and open to criticism.

It was the opportunity to at least try something better than doing absolutely f'all

Whilst I don't enjoy either 'label' - I'd rather be thought of as 'entitled' than a 'hooligan'...

Even when letting in small numbers of fans I don’t think anyone has opened up their entire stadium, so the 4 spaces between fans would be counter to every other football stadium in the UK’s approach.

And like you said, there’s an assumption that this would have meant we wouldn’t have witnessed the carnage in George square, which is putting a lot of weight on that assumption.

——————————-

Didn’t mean to give that impression.

Should’ve said - it could’ve reduced the anti social behaviour.

If it meant there were half the amount of arrests, if it halved the amount of glass/rubbish in George Sq. if it saved one person from being bottled then surely it was worth trying?

If Rangers statements in the build up were completely ineffective (which they were) then so were the Governments, the Councils and the Police statements.

They all did nothing practical and given the experience of last year, the experience of March they all deserve the hindsight torch shown at them
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Again though - could have, if, etc.

The optics for allowing this were never going to happen. Maybe rangers could have approached the UB and asked them to cancel their march?! Would that not have been far more direct and productive?!
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I think so

Or at least ask them to march - starting at George Square and head to Ibrox.

Might have meant less collateral damage that way round

There’s a rumour Lawwell’s been caught up in a bad dodgy deal as well for a while so right now it’s all speculation.
