Yeah I've been saying for a while we need a new attacking RB that can defend as well, Ivanovic overall is more than good enough IMO, very good RB a bit shaky at Cb though tends to take him 4-5 games to settle there

AVB's treatment of Torres been poor. I don't think his treatment of Alex/Anelka was great tbh and he's quite skeptical of criticism add to that today changes.

Milan very wasteful could have 3/4-0 up.

If we played as we had been recently it would have been a thrashing.

We didn't though did we

Torres treatment atm I do agree with you it could be better but at the start he was giving him plenty of chances. ATM though Drogba has been better and weve had some tough games that needed closing out not more goals so can't understand why he hasn't been brought on. Would have liked to see him today but at the same time there was no need to change what was a winning formula.

Alex and Anelka were both getting games and both said they wanted to move if they weren't going to play. He allowed them to move, Anelka has gone and Alex will follow. He did the right thing by allowing them to move on. Don't see how he mistreated it otherwise, the media stories of them not allowed to talk to rest of the squad was a load of rubbish lol, they weren't training with the 18 man squads that had been decided because they didn't want to play.

Changes today maybe some mistakes with Mata and Sturridge but the first change was 100% right and he was right to bring Mikel on he just didn't do his job at the end it's not entirely AVBs fault.

SAF didn't win anything in his first 2 years at united but look at him now, players and managers learn from their mistakes

Hmm I'm not so sure on that. He's only sacked 3 managers. Ranieri because he wanted mourinho, Scolari because he was rubbish, Ancelotti because he was allowing players to become too complacent. Mourinho he really forced out because he tried to control the team too much. But I think he'll give AVB time, according to Bruce Buck AVB is the first manager abromovic has picked himself and said he wants him to lead the team through its revolution so to speak. He also seems to have given AVB full control over players and singings. None of the players we signed were the kind of signings you'd have expected except Lukaku because the club had been following him for years.

For the first team I actually think AVB will be given time. I'd be disappointed if he doesn't get it

If Alex was getting games he would have stayed, Luiz and Terry were first-choice, but Anelka and Alex ousted to reserve squad and he dusted his hands off so quickly to show his authority. He could have handled it better.

Callejon starts for Real, Khedira subs bench again.

James McCarthy

Top of the Match

The way he gave his back four a defensive shield was just what Wigan needed and he was effective in possession as well.

Victor Moses

The Latics will be lucky to keep hold of the former Crystal Palace forward who would not look out of place in the Chelsea squad with a veritable box of tricks.

alex and anelka have not been in the reserves at all its all media rubbish lol Anelkas contract was over anyway in summer and leaving now is better for us so we can sign a foreign in january. H handled that fine even Anelka on his twitter said he is grateful to the way avb handled it.

If Luiz and Terry are the prefered option which they should be hen what is AVB meant to do, play Alex for the sake of it. Alex has been a great player for us but if he isnt willing to fight for his place and wants to leave then he can. Again it leaves space for a younger CB whos not injury prone unlike Alex. He hasnt sent him to reserves hes training with the first team every day, AVBs said himself atm Alex wants to leave, he has time to change his mind he has the option to stay. Hardly ousting him?

Ok fair enough about Anelka, Alex could have started games against City, Leverkusen and today etc. Why all of a sudden did he want to leave and not play - because he fell out with AVB.. ?

Alex played against Leverkusen in the second leg, he didnt start because Luiz and Terry were both available and a win would send us through so we went full strength. As soon as Alex came on he made 2 mistakes and we lost so maybe thats why he wasnt then played against City. Today Luiz was back from suspension too but didnt feature either but thats not because Luiz is leaving is it.

Alex wants to go because hes no longer first choice with Luiz here. He would have left in summer imo but Ancelotti was playing him again at the end of the season in most games so he decided to stay. Alex played against Liverpool in the league cup after hed said he wanted to go so obviously hasnt fallen out with AVB. The media has made up all the rubbish about players falling out with him

Difference to being rested for a bigger game or just being dropped. Alex could have played the Leverkusen game from the start since it was a CL game and you could have rotated to give him a start.

He played against Liverpool, but wasn't even considered for City when there was a injury crisis and Rajkovic/Chalobah were considered if needed ahead of him. He could have started enough games to make him want to stay IMO.

rajkovic is at hamburg not chelsea, chalobah wasnt considered ahead of him at all he was merely promoted to the full team squad that week as hes obviously considered ready now.

There wasnt an injury crisis anyway, Luiz was suspended but Bosingwa was back and ready to play so did. Alex hasnt even been that good this year tbh, made a lot of mistakes and looks to have lost any pace that he previously had. He wasnt going to settle for any kind of back up role because to get back to how he was playing before he has to be starting games week in week out which he wont at chelsea. He could have started the Leverkusen game but our defence was always changing one week alex was playing then luiz then ivanovic they were making so many mistakes because the partnership kept changing. AVB decided to keep Luiz and Terry together and suddenly we started to keep clean sheets 3 games in a row.

Its all well and good giving Alex games so he stays to be back up but we need a strong starting 11 first of all and if players keep changing they arent forming a good understanding which is key for defences so Luiz and Terry have to keep starting. Besides as good as Alex has been he always seems to be injured and hes 29 now. Better to let him go and buy in a younger replacement whos there to step into Terry's position when needed. I think AVBS done exactly the right thing

Rajkovic was considered being re-called. Bosingwa was a doubt prior to the game and AVB didn't consider Alex at all. Terry 30+ and Luiz still learning, You're telling me that AVB can't rotate 3 defenders and maintain stability ?

posted on 17/12/11

No one was considereeing recalling Rajkovic because hes not on loan he was sold to Hamburg! So dont know where you have that from.

I'm sure he can maintain stability but the problem was there was none to start with he has to get a first choice CB pairing before he can rotate. Alex clearly doesnt see himself as being a regular anymore and wants to leave, AVB has said he can in january. There is absolutley no problem with that other than the pretend one the media have seemed to try to create. Alex would have got the chances when Luiz and Terry and formed a solid partnership but he clearly isnt willing to wait and take his chance at 29, if he has no desire to do that and add to the fact hes injury prone then theres no need to keep him we can get a good young CB willing to learn from the defenders in the team and fight for their position.

Ok it wasn't re-call, a buy-back option on Rajkovic.

Terry and Luiz are the first choice pairing, Alex could have been utilised very well but something happend to make him want to leave.

I think they only sold him because of work-permit issues, AVB quoted to have said he had the option.

yes a buy back option which was not an option for the city game lol

avb only mentioned that because a journo said we had a lack of cbs when alex goes. avb said its not true we have bruma and kalas out on loan, rajkovic on a buy back and chalobah with big potential.

nothing to do with not trsting alex, to do with alex wanting to leave. Alex has said before he wanted to go if he wasnt first choice but he got ahead of carvalho. Obviously hes decided again he isnt going to be first choice and wants to go. Its nothing new with Alex or caused by AVB.

In terms of not picking him for City well theres an obvious reason. Alex has already decided hes leaving, we need to be beating City with the players staying not with the players leaving therefore playing Bosingwa, Ivanovic, Terry, Cole was the obvious choice
