Newcastle United vs Sunderland
The biggest game of the season for both sides took place at the Sports direct arena today in a sell out. Newcastle got off to a better start, Modric's threaded ball out wide found Vucnic who played the ball down the line for the over lapping Schenikov who crossed the ball in and Hulk flicked it goal wards but it just went wide. Newcastle continued on this good start and should of had a penalty when Palacios stream rolled through the Sunderland defence and rounded the keeper but Juan launched himself to block the ball. Replays shown he blocked it with his arm. But against the run of play, Sunderland pounced. After Modric lost the ball cheaply, Elia bombed down the left wing. He took it to the byline and crossed it but it was cleared only to Lamela who dinked the ball over the Birmingham defence and Anelka headed it past the on rushing Cech. Much to the delight of the Sunderland supporters. Newcastle were shocked and Sunderland dominated the next ten minutes. Menez went close with a free kick while Juans header was cleared off the line by Jones from Menez's corner. Nothing else happened up to half time and boos rung around St James Park as it looked like Newcastles bad form looked to continue. However they came out all guns blazing after the break, they got their equalizer straight from kick off when Modric found Hulk out wide who dribbled the ball centrally and let off a rocket and it came off the underside of the bar and in. Fantastic goal and the brazilian paid no respect to his former employers as he kissed the badge. Newcastle from there didn't stop, they continued to attack and Modric should of scored when he fired over the bar when he was unmarked from 8 yards. Llorente's curler nearly found the top corner only for Kameni to push the ball away. Sunderland tried to hit Newcastle on the counter as Lamela played a dangerous ball over the top but a lack of communication nearly cost Newcastle when Koscienly tried to shield the ball from Anelka for Jussi to pick up but Koscienly fell over and it fell to Anelka but Jussi slid in and Newcastle were safe. A goal mouth scramble occured in the Sunderland area, Modric firing against the post only for Hulk to pounce on the rebound but Kameni saved it with his feet and the ball got out of the box only for Palacios who smashed the ball against the bar. Chance after chance for Newcastle but it seemed like the ball wouldn't go in the back of the net. But then in the 85th minute, Newcastle struck a hammer blow to Sunderland. Sunderland attacked but Diaby lost the ball and Newcastle counter attacked. It became a 3 on 2 situation, Di Natale got inside the box and set up Modric who then played the ball in front of Vucnic and he cooly placed it in the bottom corner. Vucnic was mobbed by his team mates. For the last five minutes it was all hands on deck for Newcastle, Sunderland thought they equalized when Diaby played a through ball for Vagner Love who ran through on goal and placed it home but was adjudged offside. Sunderland poured men forward but couldn't make any chances and the full time whistle went.
