Olly Robinson the racist

Yes, but spot fixing is also different to match fixing. Bowling the odd no ball is not going to have as much damage to the game as having a whole match fixed.

Both are wrong, but since it’s argued that racism is not as bad as match fixing, I would argue that spot fixing is not as bad as match fixing either.

Match fixing= banned for life
Spot fixing= 5 years ban
Racism, Drug Abuse,, Ball tampering etc=1-2 year ban

Retrospective action is addressing the symptom rather than the cause.

So I don’t think it’s the best way to tackle racism/sexism anyway.

Not even sure if stupid jokes are full blown racism/sexism anyway. What they need is education at the time rather than bans after 8 years.

Why are people talking about retrospective action and bans?

Neither has occurred yet.

ECB have to investigate to see if there have any been any other incidents. Its common sense.

Should he be suspended whilst they investigate? I am 50 50 on that one. I guess because they have physical evidence of those tweets, rather than just allegations, it swung the decision to suspend.

People are talking about this because why is the investigation happening now?

If these tweets were so bad, then why was he allowed to play county cricket in the first place?

Are we saying not one person in cricket has ever seen his tweets especially after he was kicked out of Yorkshire?

The only time they seemed to take any action is when it became public knowledge.

Nobody knows if or when the ECB knew about the tweets prior to it becoming public. The chances are they didn't. The investigation is happening to determine if there are other skeletons in the cupboard with this player. That is the right course of action for any governing body to take in this situation.

Providing they find no further serious evidence that suggests perhaps it was more than the isolated idiotic behaviour of an 18 year old, then I hope and trust that no bans or further disciplinary action will be taken.

The recent reports have stated that more digging has been going on and other offensive social media posts have been unearthed by Bob The Builder.

I haven't seen any other names besides Robinson's though... Does anyone else know which other England players are in the spotlight for this right now?

If they wanted to replace him with the other pace bowler Overton then they would actually be replacing Robinson with a racist.

Taking action against what was said several year ago mean ECB is serious in tackling racism

Buttler and Morgan posted a few tweets a couple of years back taking the p!ss out of the Indian fans by writing things like "sir, you're my favourite batsman sir" but I wouldn't say it's racist.

Then there's also one in which Jimmy said Broad's new haircut makes him look like a 15 year old lesbian, but I think you're scraping the barrell if that's as offensive as it gets.

There's a little racism in all of us, it's an aspect of 'self preservatio' that's in all animals. But most of us do not become overt racists and set out to cause hurt to others.
Putting racist remarksinto writing suggests that person is a true racist believer and gives little thiught to any harm he may cause.
I don't accept that 18 and 19 year olds are so naive that they can be excused so easily. This is the 21st century where when racism has been frequently been big news, ignorance is not believable.
The ECB will almost certainly whitewash Ollie Robinson because otherwise they would have to admit their mistakes in so long turning a blind eye to the subject.

Maybe Lenny Henry should be booted off as racist too then, he made extremely racist jokes about the Chinese in full costume and he was an adult at the time - David Walliams is another one. In fact this guy has to go for disgraceful tweets 8 years ago at 18 years of age and no apology is enough then an awful lot of woke Lefties are going to have to be cancelled too aren’t they ?

How is it that this is OK if the cricketer has to be cancelled for something he did at 18 despite a heartfelt apology ?

Lenny Henry was accused of racism years ago because a lot of the jokes on his TV show were aimed at white people.

His reply "How can I be racist if I'm black?"

Over 8 years ago... everyone is an idiot when they are a teenager.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's no excuse though.

At least his apology seemed genuine.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I agree wasnt good what he tweeted but I believe people can change and reform over time. Especially when its something they have did when they were young
----------------------------------------------------------------------
People don’t change, not that much.
