I think you're just jealous because you've been around for over ten years and I am a more popular poster than you.

And there we have it from the horse's mouth.

Billy No Mates just wants to be popular.

Barring some hyperbole it's all accurate OP.
It was a decent season and better than most forecast.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Pretty much sums up my thoughts. I think we're guilty of putting positives to one side and moving onto the 'next' thing too quickly these days. Not just in football but it seems a bit of a general behaviour, shorter attention spans and less appreciation in general. I enjoyed last season and despite not winning a trophy, it was a very much needed distraction from the lockdown, maybe I look at it a little more fondly because of that, it helped a lot, for me at least.

In response to number 5, one of United's highlights in your opinion was avoiding defeat at Anfield this season? That's what you call progress?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It was the psychological element though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The psychological element of what? And for who?

How did taking a draw away from Anfield benefit your season at all?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We really should have won, just a shame Becker made two miracle saves.

The psychological element was that we outplayed you at home and it resulted in your subsequent defeats which saw us pull away from you.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So that draw resulted in the poor home form.I think there were far more factors than that. If anything, you should be disappointed you didn't win considering the run after that, you could have been the start of that run and made it 7 home defeats on the trot.

You were far too passive and you didn't exactly do a great deal that deserved to win the game. The mentality of being happy to take a point is why United won't be winning league titles, because the City's and Liverpool's over the last 2/3 seasons go and beat those sides away from home.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't think there's any shame in acknowledging how far off both you and city we've been. You might sneer at being happy with that result but there are results that indicate a closing of the gap or even just general improvement. That doesn't necessarily mean we can pack up and go home, obviously there's further progression needed but taking a result as a bit of a postive is pretty normal, I think.

Liverpool as a team have been pretty incredible for a couple of years, obviously with the rivalry involved as well its going to add a bit more meaning to it.

Going to Annfield is difficult at the best of times. Even when we were top dogs in the country it was a very tough place to go. It isn't about replicating last season, we know we won't win titles like that, I don't think anyone is claiming we will. It's about it being better than the season before and the season before that, indicating an upward trajectory in terms of consistency and ability to compete with the likes of Liverpool and City.

There is joy to be had outside of football that doesn't invoke winning titles. 99% of football fans don't see their team win anything each year and it's not within our control, so you take the positives you can.

My point was, the team who was arguably the best away from home last season with United's unbeaten record should have done better an Anfield, considering the disastrous Feb/March period, maybe even late Jan as well.

I know what you're saying in general terms, but I wouldn't consider it a big step by taking points off somebody who have been far from impressive at home, just because they usually are. Especially if you're 2nd in the table, wanting to challenge for trophies and have a very good away record.

In principle, it would be like saying you've got a really good result because you avoided defeat at Arsenal if you were somebody like Everton, for instance. Yes, traditionally it is, but in the circumstances, it's not all that impressive.

Wow. Some sense from VC for once. I am from Manchester... lived in Hough End Avenue for years before moving more central.

Yeah people are quick to hold onto negatives but forget instantly how many positives there were last year.

I didn't say it was? Just good to see you sticking up for me and putting people right that i'm not Robb.

I lived in Chorlton years ago now... different world back then. I moved more central in 2013 when they started digging up Mauldeth Rd West. There's a met stop there now outside Ali superstore! It was all just a central reservation with trees on back in my day. Mental how far forward Chorlton has come with the tram links. I think they even have a tramline that goes right down Hardy Lane, over the meadows and into Sale and Alty. Madness.

As the club with the most spending power in the country, 2 questions come to mid.

Was your marquee signing, Donny van der Beek a success and are you happy that you lost a final to a team that cost less than Paul Pogba to assemble and you finished 2nd in a league you lead for a long period?

DVB will be a world class player for us. Don't forget even the likes of David Silva and Laporte took time to settle into this league. He will be a huge success in time.

From what I understand about DVB, his technical game is outstanding but tactically he was having to do a lot of adaptation last year to Ole's system and that's why he didn't start many matches.

The final is something I don't see any point in discussing because it's in the past.

As for the title, I do think VAR helped you guys out a lot and luck went against us. Look at when we played at Anfield and you did. Alisson turned into superman when we came to town and then impersonated Karius for Pep. Just bad luck and small margins.

I am sure there is but I haven't been to Chorlton in years. I remember I used to go to The Jacksons Boat for a nice quiet pint on a Sunday. Good pub if you know it, just over the bridge on the left.
