He can’t get in the England side as he’s not as good as the others.

Such a facile argument. Southgate has been picking teams based on very specific tactical plans and picking players to do very specific tactical jobs. Does he think that Rice and Phillips are the most talented English central midfielders?

Haven’t you been crying for months about United not being good enough and needing to bring in quality like Sancho? Now you’re telling us he’s overrated and not to expect much from him?

He had a reputation of being Billy Big Bollox at the City Academy.

The ego has landed?

posted on 1/7/21

Nothing wrong with having an ego, it's pretty common for highly talented people to have. Just needs to justify it on the pitch.

He did indeed spend the whole of last summer pining for him.

Odd bloke.

apparently, which is a big contrast to eg the maguire fee, which i think we paid in one large-browed go.

i try not to attach a juicy narrative to a simple set of facts, but tempting to conclude that the changes made to our deal team have had an immediate impact.

Add-ons don't have to be included in the ad-hoc statement.

Yeah but usually the selling team includes all those extras to make it seem they got the best deal possible.

didn't know that...most corporate deals will spell out if there are earn-outs on top of the base price, i was going on their wording of "a fixed transfer fee of 85m", but that doesn't rule out there being add-ons on top that they just don't mention.

though from what i've read any potential add-ons are quite modest, so i won't lose any sleep over them.

You would think but it doesn't always happen for some reason.

Borussia Dortmund CEO Watzke confirms: “There’s an agreement with Manchester United for Sancho. It was Jadon's express wish to change, we would have liked to keep him. We are not happy about the money but sad that he’s leaving”.

----------------------------------------------

No, seems I could well be wrong. In which case I have to hand it to the club.

right, now that's sorted, onto other more pressing matters.

pogba, eh, what a liability he is, anyone agree?

“We are not happy about the money”

Strange thing to say

posted on 1/7/21

The only thing which hasn't really been mentioned is the £3.65 million in solidarity payments to City and Watford which United will pay which takes the total cost of the deal up to around €89 million for United.

posted on 1/7/21

Surely just means they'd have rather kept him than have the money.

i read it as "we are sad that the player is leaving, rather than happy that we have received some cash"

but if they were a bit peeved about the fee, well that would be some nice...erm, what's the german for "taking pleasure in someone else's misfortune"?

Watzke: “not like we are happy for the money - we are sad to lose Sancho” - “Jadon has been behaving brilliant for us and he wanted to do this move”

-----------------------------------------------

Makes more sense now.

I imagine Levy will struggle to hide his celebrations when making his Kane departure statement with £120m in his suitcase grinning ear to ear.
