I’ll believe it when I see it. Rumours are growing that PSG are looking to bring Pogba in. And I doubt Ole is magically gonna grow some cojones over the space of a transfer window.
🤞🏻
this is all going to depend on how Varane settles in as to whether it will be a success

so he will likely to have signed one of the most exciting young wingers in world football and a 4 time cl and world cup winner and you dont think this could effect the way he goes about things??
weird.
Positive sign if true but that requires a very high quality DM which we simply don’t have. Ole has also been reluctant to operate this way the entire time at United so I’m sceptical that he has all of a sudden changed his tactical approach.

I think the solid back 4 is what he's banking on if the rumours of Varane and Tripp are true.
maybe Ole has thought that Linerloff has been holding United back all this time and getting Varane in is the answer to let the horses loose in midfield.

I don' think that it is too much of a stretch Robb. He has looked at this formation in preseason previously, but then not followed it through into the actual season. Perhaps he now feels that the squad is better balanced/has more depth to adopt 433 and play the pressing game that we have also seen in preseason?
Trippier, though a very useful addition to the squad, won't really make the back 4 more solid. Varane should, on paper.
As for the OP, only really see this happening if we get a top class, ready to go defensive midfielder. Which I don't think we will.
I'd love if he did play this system. It's very difficult to win the PL or CL for that matter by playing 4-2-3-1. It doesn't produce the amount of goals required.

Trippier will be more useful than AWB against 70% of the PL teams we play and maybe 1 or 3 CL teams too early doors perhaps.

Definitely, but no chance. We need to be scouting big time for a long term top notch DM.
Would a be set up and and formation better suited for counter attack than dominating the midfield and controlling games from there

maybe Ole has thought that Linerloff has been holding United back all this time and getting Varane in is the answer to let the horses loose in midfield.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well Varane is much quicker than Lindelof, so it enables Maguire to push into midfield and for our backline to push higher, because when we get hit on the counter, Varane is absolutely capable of just sweeping it up. He's not a Vidic defender, he's more of a Ferdinand and he has the pace and awareness to help us play that style.
You could see we wanted to do this but it got punished several times and it looked like he felt he had to reign it in a bit - rightly so, in my opinion.
So whilst he hasn't single handedly been holding us back, just that change does present an opportunity to manage cba he's to how we play far better.
I've seen multiple users on this site refer to Varane as 'not the quickest', I have no idea where that's come from, just shows uninformed they are.
Lindelof is actually a very good player, I do think he'd be much more suited to La Liga though. He's very good on the ball and I think he'd spot in at a top club in Italy or Spain and be quite comfortable.
I've not seen too much of Varane, only in the CL. I have been led to believe he isn't that fast, just by what others have said.
I am hoping Ole will learn from Southgates mistake that if you have a wealth of attacking talent it is counter productive if it is sat on the bench or you play not to lose.
Is this guy reliable, as a 433 doesn't make sense currently.
Dropping Fernandes deeper means we potentially lose some of his goals and assists, whilst inviting more pressure on the defence with just 1 of Matic, McTominay, or Fred shielding the defence.
To be honest, if you add Varane and Sancho to our squad last season, you probably get within 4 points of City.
