We also pay transfer fees that very few clubs can, or are willing to pay. I think it’s four of the five most expensive transfers in England were made by us.
Obviously we can’t sign anyone we want, and the success of those transfers is another matter, but we pay fees and wages that even Chelsea and City haven’t been willing to pay.
It’s why Fred, Sanchez and Maguire ended up Old Trafford rather than the Etihad. United have a lot of power in the transfer market. More so than we did under Fergie, we didn’t have the financial capability to make someone like City back down.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ole is a huge factor behind the Sancho and Varane signings. If he couldn't convince them they'd go elsewhere. End of story.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh shush. It;s because a) Utd would pay the fee and b) they are being paid an enormous amount.
Sancho will likely be at Utd for at least 5 years where as it is highly unlikely Ole will. You're talking nonsense again.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Point B is wrong. Madrid/Juve/PSG/City would pay him a huge amount so why didn't he go there? He'd walk into the City side over Mahrez or Sterling. Same at PSG with Di Maria. Juve too and Madrid.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Because they didn't bid for him because they don't want them. Obviously. Are you drunk?

He’d have had some influence, obviously. But ultimately these players are signing for Manchester United. That is the attraction not so much the manager.
Happens all the time with huge clubs. Neymar didn’t sign for Barca to play for Martino. Ronaldo didn’t sign for Madrid to play for Pellgrini.
Yes what with everything in the news about money in the game and those clubs going skint I am sure it was Ole that was the deciding factor and not the £73,000,000 bid from Utd that is the reason he is not at Barca, Madrid or Juve.
Sancho was only ever going to end up at two clubs, us or Chelsea.

You're in a better place that you were under Jose, but that doesn't mean much. Ole has probably brought back some of the feel good factor in that he communincates better and is far less toxic than Jose. In terms of my point though, it doesn't really mean much
---------
Have to strongly disagree. It does mean much, it means a lot. Or at least to me. I don't identify with Manchester United because of trophies. The history and the culture of the club was a big deal to me as a kid. Bringing through players like Beckham and taking chances on young, exciting talent meant more to me than an FA Cup.
There are things money can't buy, I'd rather wait longer and see Greenwood and Rashford win us a league title than just keep bringing in player after player until they get us there. That's not to say City fans will care one bit but that's their perception, I can only speak for my own.
The last 2 years have been a significant improvement on anything we've had post Ferguson. At least from my point of view, it's given me enough optimism that we will continue improving, so I'm pretty happy as things stand. A young, exciting squad with a good injection of our own academy players and British talent.

United's size and finance will always attract players, that's a fact. However, the top players will want to move to teams who are winning trophies and are at the top.
Are United really going to be able to attract the very best players at he moment? Whilst Varane and Sancho are very good players & signings, would they have joined United if Real Madrid weren't in the situation they were in and Dortmund were what they were 7/8 years ago? Probably not.
Could City, Liverpool or Chelsea do this? Probably yes. I can't think many players would turn Man City down at this time and if Chelsea wanted to sign Haaland or Lewandowski, as rumoured, I'm sure they'd get that deal done and obviously Liverpool signed Thiago last summer from the European Champions and arguably best team in Europe at the time as well.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh yes we can. United are still a big draw
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Can you?
What top player has joined you then in Ole's tenure that has left a club performing at the highest level to join United?
As I have said, the closest you have got to that description is Varane (who you haven't actually signed yet) and Real Madrid are miles away from what they were 2/3 seasons ago. Sancho, who has played for a team that have been poor by their standards for a few seasons now and aren't even considered second best in their own country, is the next best in that regard as well.
United are still a way from the very top of the game at the moment, despite the pulling power of the finances and the club. Players would still rather go to City, Liverpool or Chelsea if we are looking at success.
Any publishing date for your Rashford book review, ridiculer?

Sporting and Porto are far from top clubs in Europe, they do well to get through the CL group, if they even get that far.
Cavani was also a free agent after he left PSG as well. It would be a shout if you signed him from PSG, but you didn't.
To define a "top club", I mean a club that is performing at the highest level at the time of them being signed. Which does not apply to Porto or Sporting.

He must have been really vital that PSG let his contract run out and didn't renew it. They are hardly short financially if they wanted to offer him a bumper contract to keep him around.
Cavani is hardly what I'd call one of the best strikers either. He's a good player, a very good player, but he isn't one of the best strikers in the world.
Chelsea, City and Liverpool don’t really sign these players from top clubs either. Most big clubs don’t, as it’s uncommon the top clubs sell their players between each other.
Real Madrid are the only club that sign top players from top clubs with any regularity, and haven’t for a while now.

Yes he is one of the best in the world, walks into the LFC side too. In fact if you had Cavani for last year you'd probably have got at least another 8-10 points.
Chelsea and City haven't for a while, but they could do at the moment. I can't imagine many players would turn either of those two clubs down at the moment. Liverpool also signed Thiago from Bayern, who were European Champions at the time.
I don't think United would be able to get the very best players from the very best clubs because you just haven't been successful enough to justify why they would move. The only justification would be for more money.

Cavani left a team getting to UCL finals to join us under Ole...
