I am sure he was advised not to go to the Euros.
And that is irrelevant anyway. The issue is that there was a debate in the first place about surgery.
Been saying that since the beginning of the euros but no one listened - they just all assumed he must be fine.
Sancho / Cavani / Greenwood front three for a bit then,
with Martial coming in when one of them needs a rest?
That doesn't mean he shouldn't still shoulder some of the blame for the penalties defeat.
I am actually really happy that he will be out for 12 weeks. He needs a sustained rest. His body needs a rest to properly get over the back, knee and shoulder injuries. We have got enough bodies to cover his absence and hopefully when he returns he is back the form he was showing before his back injury.
I wonder if this means that we will keep Elanga for at least the first half of the season?

That's the issue for me too. That they took so long to come to the conclusion that he definitely needed surgery
I think the club have played this quite well.
They've allowed him to play at the Euros (I'm sure he wouldn't have wanted to miss out on a tournament at home) even if it did end badly.
They've also allowed him a holiday to perhaps have a bit of a mental break before then sending him for the op. Yes, we may miss him for a few extra weeks but I do think he needed a mental break as well.

I'm sure it was discussed earlier in the year after his back injury.
Likely the club didn't want to be without him at the tail end of the season and Marcus didn't want to miss out on the Euros.

100%. He needs some time to recharge and let all the niggly injuries properly hear. He's already got a lot of games on the clock for a player his age and has been playing for the last year and a half with injuries. His body is going to be cabbaged if he doesn't get a decent break. I think that the club have played this one well. He hasn't had that many minutes during the Euros. He has had time to have a full rest and clear his head. Now he gets a sustained break from playing and we have time to properly manage his return and let his body fully heal. We also have extra bodies in the squad to deal with his absence.

yep, we don't know the full story, but these extra wasted weeks since the euros, with surgery apparently set for the end of july - because the surgeon was on holiday?? - followed by the club seemingly discussing with rashford's camp whether surgery was needed at all, strikes me as somewhat odd, and at the very least highly unfortunate.
certainly doesn't do much to dispel the notion that our medical team is far from top rate.

Like I said elsewhere. Is it just me that's worried we're looking quite competent in our decisions recently?
Terrible management of this player by Ole. Rash should have had this surgery after the ropey final and he would be back early Sept. A private conversation with Gareth would have confirmed that Rashford was going to Euro20 as a squad player to basically make up the numbers.

Spot on my thoughts exactly and he still would have had 3 months off. Your club must come before your country. They pay your wages!

I think that we have probably looked at how young players can get burnt out and thought that 5 months with only a small amount of competitive football will serve Rashford well in the long term.
I can see letting him go to the Euros but then letting him go on holiday for 3 weeks before the surgery???
He could’ve gone on holiday after the surgery.
So our right hand side maintains its imbalance for the first 10 weeks of our season. Fab
