They don’t mess around where as we do. That’s the difference. This Romero looks like it’s happening but it’s taken 4 f** weeks to get him. We are so bloody slow it’s unreal
We should have gone for Ings in my opinion, but I don’t think we showed any interest since Paratici came in, I think he was a Steve Hitchen target.
The concern for me is that we haven’t replaced Bale yet and Kane’s future is up in the air. With 4 weeks to go (I’ve already given up on the start of the season) we look foooked. I hope against all Enic/Levy history that there is a plan for this. Vlahovic and Traore/Damsgaard have been linked.
People keep writing off the Damsgaard link but I wonder if the plan is to play Sonny as the striker now and have Damsgaard side left interchanging with Gil and move Bergwijn over to the right to change with Lucas.
We look much worse on paper than what we started with last season as things stand
They confirm Ings a day before we confirm Romero...wow, they don't mess around do they, a whole 24.hours quicker!.
That said, disappointed that we did not bid. Kane stays or goes, we need another striker and 25m is peanuts for that quality
We need to sort the defence out as well, finalise the Romero and Tomiyasu deals, and buy another quality CB to play alongside Romero.

We would never have bid £25m for him anyway, Levy would have been think £18m ish as he was in last year of contract. We would have messed around unlike Villa who have just come in and paid what Southampton want to conclude the deal quickly.

Not sure I get your point about it being 24 hrs sooner.
My point was there didn’t appear to be four weeks of paper talk, bids being rejected etc….. it just appears to have happened.
Is Ings really as good as posters are making out? He gets a lot of injuries, and even without Kane, Spurs still have plenty of players that can score, Son, Moura, Dele all capable of scoring plenty. And with young Dane Scarlett improving rapidly, he will be heavily involved in the squad this season, buying Ings may stop his progress.
Even though last night was only a friendly, Spurs still managed to score two, without Kane, and could have had more. Scoring goals is not going to be a problem for Spurs even if Kane goes. It is the conceeding of goals that will be the bigger problem.
Which club is going to sell you their best striker so close to deadline if Kane does leave. Ings was always an option due to his contract situation.
Is that what Levy is banking on? No time to get a replacement so keep an unhappy player?

Sandy, if Kane goes we need a top quality replacement end of story, if not 2 strikers. Otherwise we are just back to square one and even weaker. Don’t let a friendly fool you mate. Bergwijn, Ali etc are just not good enough to be our starting attackers each week. If Kane goes, 10000000000% we need replacements. Would be a farce if not.
Villa have just sold their best player for 100m, they have money to waste on Ings, and it's in their interest to try and repair some damage with the fans.
I don't rate Ings and don't see how him and Kane are even mentioned in the same breath, as a replacement.
I don't know if Many City can stump up that 150m either with potential FFP problems.

Nobody wants Ings to replace Kane, but he would of been a good 2nd striker to buy. If Kane goes, we replace him with a top quality striker in the 60/70 mil pound mould or even higher. That’s the only way we replace Kane. Buying 2 strikers.

you have no idea how long Villa have been working on that signing.
Ings has 1 year left. Saints knew he was going so were always going to sell. Atalanta were not willing sellers and then wanted to get a replacement in first. not to mention Spurs spending a massive chunk of money.
I'm not defending our Board, I'm just applying realism and appreciating very different circumstances of the 2 transfers. I am sure if Kanes departure was nailed on like Grealish's we'd also be happy to over pay a bit for replacements to get deals done. Right now we have a budget and are trying to get the best we can within that.
You also have to consider that potentially Kane might leave and we have 150m in our pocket.
Why buy a 15m right back and a cheaper 2nd CB now when potentially we could afford bigger and better if the Kane deal goes through.
There is a very difficult balance to reach in who we buy and when. The signings so far have been for our top CB target, youthful potential replacing Lamela and a very decent GK backup....these will have happened regardless of Kanes position and £75m has been spent. What we do next will be massively influenced by what sales happen.
Villa and Leicester have had good windows. Showing more "established" clubs how to do business.

I think its a very difficult market. More so than usual.
The financial impact of Covid will be driving some decisions and many clubs will be looking to sell players to get their finances back in order, but will not be wanting to give them away. Meanwhile, buying clubs will not want to be over paying as they also need to balance things up financially.
I suspect there will be an awful lot of late deals happening as teams are almost forced to do business, whether buying or selling.
Villa before this week had got Buendia in for £35m and Ashley Young on a free. Their subsequent buys have followed the almost certain news that Grealish is going.
Leicester have bought a couple of £20m-£25m players, and it is easier to pick up these sorts of players as that sort of quality is more plentiful than perceived higher end players who will cost 2 or 3 times that.
