There is an easy compromise here.
Give him an offer of good money with a buy out clause for next summer of £50million.
If he stays he stays. If the club's come for him the price isn't going to be £100m+ so he won't get priced out of the move he wants, United get something equivalent to what they were going to get this summer. We keep him for another year, he gets a higher salary, and he doesn't screw over fans by leaving for free again. Win, win, win.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He gets less money at his next club because they had to give 50m to Manchester United that could have been used to pump his wages up further.
So he loses if United win.

Of course players and agents are greedy, they're people.
Clubs need to be canny, ours does anyway, I don't really care about the others.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't even think it's 'greedy' as such. They are like any other people in every other walk of life, they want the best for themselves and their family and will negotiate and push for the best possible deal.
Someone going into a review meeting and putting a case forward as to why they should have a higher salary increase isn't greedy, they want the best possible outcome they can get. Agents help players engineer that and obviously work in a commission based business, so similar to any kind of sales of commission based role, will obviously push for the best. Agents aren't exclusive to football, agents acting on behalf of anyone will always have their client's interest in higher regard than the companies they deal with on their behalf. As much as people moan about agents, they are probably a necessary evil, to help people not get done over by the business they are doing business with. Businesses who employ legal experts to draw up contracts etc, I can totally see why a player would rather have an agent to sort that side out and negotiate for them. If it was Mbappe's agent coming out and saying he dreams of United etc, the majority on this board would love it.
It's all a matter of perspective. Can say they are on a lot of money in comparison but someone unemployed could say the same thing about someone on 70k and pushing for a higher wage - "you earn plenty to live on as it is, don't be so greedy".
We all look after our own interests, including the football club.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Please stop writing sense, some of these people have what I call the Souness Syndrome. These players owe Manchester United nothing- they do a job and are well within their rights to do what's best for them and their family! This idea that every player has to die for this club and put the club first like yesteryear is fantasy thinking. It is a new day and I suggest some people wake up.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
don't be silly, I love pogba more than anyone here
but likening signin a wage extension of ove 350k per week to dying for the club
while I understand players wanting more that is the very definition of greedy (selfish desire for wealth). Let's not sugar coat it. A majority of modern day players are greedy and when you condone this behaviour as acceptable don't then turn around an hyporictically condemn owners of exhibiting the same greedy behaviours e.g ESL
I don't hate the players, I hate what the game has become

If you think it is ok I have no problems with that. In fact society has been designed to encourage people to be greedy so it is not an insult more an observation
Personally I rank your chances of winning the league this year as very low so think you should be thinking longer term. Get some money for him and get someone (or 2) in this year who will push you on in future. Think you get top 4 with or without him and just can't see you winning the league.

I was insinuating that Don is his biggest fan on here 😂. Regarding Pogba, IMO he’s guilty and innocent of many things but one thing that isn’t a fair reflection is the form he’s shown at United and how people seem to underrate him. He’s done well at United without quite being in the top bracket but I’d say it was less him and more the huge levels of disruption all around him since he joined. He has every right to go elsewhere and win some big trophies while he’s still at an age where his ‘potential’ for lack of a better word can be exploited to its fullest. I think some people expected a different type of player than he is and have never quite forgiven him for that weirdly.

I wouldn’t say very low - we have a very good squad full of goals and have improved our defence. I’m not the biggest fan of the manager but sometimes winning titles can be as simple as just scoring a lot of goals and the attack we have will win us many many games. City and to a lesser extent Chelsea should be favourites but we’re not as far behind as some think considering how strong our squad is.

Exactly. I just think that Poggers could give us two more years and still have enough years left to go to a top club and earn too money.
He’s 28 now at 30 he could still do a PSG move for big money.
I just don’t like the way it’s going; not signing a contract and going on a free AGAIN. Ronaldo made it abundantly clear that he wanted Real, he stayed an extra year, gave his all and we still got a top fee for him. Pogba has more history with us and isn’t seemingly doing anything similar…

was the club's first attempt to get ronaldo to extend his contract when he had 12 months left on his current one?
people should be asking why the club - as it did with de gea, as it did with herrera - decided to leave it so late to offer the player a new contract. if you leave it until there is one year left, all the power is with the player, and you either get bent over a barrel to keep them (de gea), or lose them on a free (herrera).
if we were a well-run club pogba would have been offered a new contract 2 years ago, and either signed it, or been sold.
We’re better off keeping him for a year and letting him go, if he’s not going to sign a new contract.

I’m pretty sure that the people in charge of Manchester United are well aware of basics such as that. You’re talking about a multi billion pound company negotiating a contract and value in the tens of millions of pounds. If you think they’ve just left it until now, I think you’re being a bit naive.

Wouldn’t be a surprise if he signs a new contract anyway. The club might want to try and get Raiola onside as well so we can get Haaland next year.

Sorry didn’t mean it to read patronisingly but it’s a bit silly to think that clubs deliberately let these things roll on to the last minute. I’m sure that conversations and factors involved are all having an impact for the past year to two years. There’s too much money involved not to.
If Pogba runs down his contract, why the feck would he go to PSG?
The PSG rumours have been used as a bargaining chip for better wages at United imo. Whatever people think of Pogba, he has bigger ambitions than PSG, he's also on record saying that he'd never play for them.
If he's to leave, it will be too Real or back to Juve.
PSG aren't going to want Pogba whilst they have Neymar and Messi.
They can only carry so many luxury players.
Real could be doing some good business next year. They could do a ‘PSG’ by getting Mbappe and Pogba for free and Haaland on the cheap. Might be a strategy that they’re banking on while they work to get rid of Bale and Hazard et all

I think some people expected a different type of player than he is and have never quite forgiven him for that weirdly.

people should be asking why the club - as it did with de gea, as it did with herrera - decided to leave it so late to offer the player a new contract. if you leave it until there is one year left, all the power is with the player, and you either get bent over a barrel to keep them (de gea), or lose them on a free (herrera).
if we were a well-run club pogba would have been offered a new contract 2 years ago, and either signed it, or been sold.

We’re better off keeping him for a year and letting him go, if he’s not going to sign a new contract.

I’m pretty sure that the people in charge of Manchester United are well aware of basics such as that. You’re talking about a multi billion pound company negotiating a contract and value in the tens of millions of pounds. If you think they’ve just left it until now, I think you’re being a bit naive.

thanks for the patronising response, though a simple yes or no would have sufficed
