I'll not criticise any player for wanting to play for his country. He is a true pro and always gives everything and has always been passionate about playing for his country. We signed him knowing that. Can't expect him to change his personality

----------------------------------------------------------------------
In normal circumstances I'd agree however what is the point of him even been here if covid restrictions remain amd he plays all the games for his country. That would mean he would miss nearly 20 games. Thats a third of the season. That could have a massive impact. Added to the fact its his last year for us
But surely he understands that United are his employers and who he has to prioritise. The quarantine rules are unfortunate but all players must be aware that going away will have a big effect on their ability to play for their club. It’s nice that he cares about playing for his country but if he’s going to possibly miss a quarter of a season quarantining then he has to understand what is his priority.
Will Uruguay cover his salary when he’s on quarantine?

Starting to look like a bad decision and a waste of wages, probably should have let him go back to Uruguay and go for the likes of Ings, nothing against the man but the conflict of interests is bad for the club
any chance Juve want a swap for Ronaldo?
Don't worry about the waste in wages, we'll recoup all that back in shirt sales anyway. Though if we get Ronaldo back we'll actually beat the oil money in terms of shirt sales alone.

We as a club or we as fans? The club should and will do what they can to ensure Cavani doesn't travel. But I don't see how the club can be upset or surprised. He's racked up 123 appearances for his country whilst playing in Europe. I won't be upset with Cavani for being the person that he's always been and living by his own moral compass.

Well that is a load of bollox because the red list countries I believe came into effect after he had signed the contract. Added to the fact he has only this yr with us and we are paying him handsomely he could quite easily stick with us rather than playing only 3 games for his country and miss EIGHT for us

I'm not specifically taking about the red list. COVID has been ongoing for a long time. Players having to quarantine before joining another bubble isn't something knew and the club must be pretty short sighted if they didn't consider this and also consider just how effectively the threat is being dealt with in SA.
Imagine if Pogba did this.

Added to the fact its his last year for us
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We knew this was possible when we extended his contract
----------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Shows weakness from the club if we allow him to go.
2. Poor on Cavanis part if he chose country over club with one yr left.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why is it poor on his part? He's always turned out for his country despite playing in Europe. It's obviously a great honour for him. Why should he change who he is? We knew what we were signing. It's like getting into a relationship with someone then getting upset because they won't change who they are to suit you. You knew what you were getting into.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well that is a load of bollox because the red list countries I believe came into effect after he had signed the contract. Added to the fact he has only this yr with us and we are paying him handsomely he could quite easily stick with us rather than playing only 3 games for his country and miss EIGHT for us
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not specifically taking about the red list. COVID has been ongoing for a long time. Players having to quarantine before joining another bubble isn't something knew and the club must be pretty short sighted if they didn't consider this and also consider just how effectively the threat is being dealt with in SA.

Imagine if Pogba did this.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think its you that is failing to understand his priority
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So we should just accept it and be happy with a player who would rather miss a huge chunk of the season than play for the club who pay him a huge wage
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We as a club or we as fans? The club should and will do what they can to ensure Cavani doesn't travel. But I don't see how the club can be upset or surprised. He's racked up 123 appearances for his country whilst playing in Europe. I won't be upset with Cavani for being the person that he's always been and living by his own moral compass.

Morals?
In football?
Baghahahahahahahahaha!

And 99% of them appearances were not in the current climate we live in. Can't believe you are not getting this. Yeah how about we let a player do what he wants. Do you see any of the other S.American players complaining?
I don't see Fabinho, Fred, Firminho, Richarlison, Alisson, Ederson, etc etc complaining nor did I see them take an extended break. They were back with their clubs available for the first game and they got further in the competition
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's not that I don't get what you're saying. It's not a complex discussion. I just have a different opinion to you. If the club couldn't forsee a possible issue when we extended his contract then that was shortsighted.
