Phil Jones couldn’t be any worse that’s for sure. I think lindelof would be decent there tbh

Phil Jones in there and go with a diamond back 4 with Shaw the new Lahm:

----------Maguire---------
------Jones Varane-----
-----------Shaw-----------

Welcome to Oleball. A new way of playing.

Lindelof at RB would be a dissaster. He is slower and worse defender than AWB. He will be eaten alive.

Mctomminay will be decent there tbh.

Agreed, he is shiite. But the biggest weakness in your team is that OSG has assembled a bunch of individuals who are all playing for themselves rather than the club.

I guess that is a risk you take when you make marquee signings with no clear plan of how you want to play.

this guy needs to take up watching a new sport or lay off the ganja.

I used to think AWB was a solid RB who wouldn't offer much going forward, at times last season I thought the latter was improving.

Now, the only attributes I see in him are one v one defending and his recovery tackles, which finally resulted in a red this week.

His def and off positions are awful, he doesn't overlap our left rooted RW's, he can't cross, he can't pass, he is constantly relying on his pace and tackling to save himself too.

He is also our outlet in the majority of games. Teams know he offers no threat and are happy for their LB to tuck in and cover leaving AWB basically free.

He's not terrible and I do think he's improved some aspects of his game. He does need to improve there of course.

If he's not playing in midfield I'd quite like to see McT tried there. I think he could potentially be a very good full back.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Don we’ll have McTominay at RB, Lindelof and Donny at DM and Van Gaal sitting there thinking, ‘I could have done that!’

It'll be interesting to see who covers for AWB whilst he's suspended in the CL. Will Ole use Dalot or go for more experience with someone else (like Lindelof)?

Dalot, I'm sure. I wouldn't be against that to be honest, he played a full season last year and got time at the Euros.

From what I've seen, he flatters to deceive in an attacking sense, looks comfortable but his output isn't great. He is willing to overlap Greenwood though, which is important.

Just because players have the attributes to be good in a position, doesn't mean they will be. A lot of positional awareness, instinct, is taught and learnt from an early age.

Plus McTominay has the turning circle of a bus, I reckon he'd get skinned a lot against tricky wingers.

My reasoning for that view is that he's played CB for Scotland, has a good engine, is good in the air and he would have the energy to supplement the midfield as well when required. I also think he'd be better on the ball, and be more of a threat than AWB, from that side.

I'm not writing AWB off though. Who knows maybe the red card will make him a bit more circumspect and make him realise it's not all about tackling.

There's a lot you don't realise about AWB. Keeps his cards close to his chest.

I must admit, i struggle to warm to AWB... He's far from the "championship player" that one poster said... But he is flawed, no doubt.

I assume we will see Dalot in the next couple of CL games, so will be interesting to see if he steps up.

the really shocking thing, given how he treats the ball as a mortal enemy, is that he started out as a winger.

i did watch a video once of him as a junior winger, it was entertaining at least.

Hasn't been great. Offensively non existent and his defensive side relies too much on his very impressing tackling rather than positional sense and reading danger. For the money we paid and supposedly the scouting we had done on him I'd expect a lot more, especially considering how poor our ride side has been for the past few years.

Unfortuantely our only other option is Dalot who's useless.

Valencia was also a strange one as well. As a converted winger you'd have thought it would have been the defensive aspect being the weakest part of his game. Alas...

----------------------------------------------------------------------
He is a championship level player. Period. He wouldn't look out of place in Tony Pulis' Stoke City teams of the past. In fact he doesn't even have the physicality needed to succeed in those teams who for a couple of seasons were a solid mid table team.

He will struggle to get game time at Norwich, Newcastle who will probably go down this season. Horrendous player. My eyes bleed every time he has the ball.

He has faults that I could get over if he was technically competent. Positioning generally improves with experience, and you can work on your delivery from wide areas.

Unfortunately what's he misses most is just an all-round footballing ability. He struggles to receive the ball under pressure, he struggles to retain it under pressure, he struggles with moving it quickly. And it leads to situations like the one that led to his red card because of a horrendous first touch. That one got highlighted due to the sending off but it's something that happens quite often in a game.

I guess the pursuit of Trippier is a sign Ole's realised we need a new right back. But I think if a new manager came in the next year or two AWB would be out the door.

Or UTD

He's quite literally a PL player. Peroid.

This place is fun sometimes.

He's clearly not terrible but there is room for improvement because he does have some clear faults. Hopefully they will improve as time goes by.

Enough about Ole though...

He is terrible. Out of the 4 championship level players we had in our squad at the beginning viz AWB, Lindelof, Fred, Dan James, he is the worst. Just because we have an inept manager who plays him 50 times in a season in spite of knowing his shortcomings doesn't mean he is a good player. Next year this time he will be playing in the championship.

posted on 16/9/21

After all these years you still are yet to explain how an inept plays 4 championship players 50 times a season and manages to come second in the Premier League.

Go...
