We paid £50m for a tackle merchant—that's all I can say.

Valencia was incredibly frustrating as a full back. Like others have said he was annoying poor offensive even though he had been converted from a winger but saying that he was never that great and should have been replaced sooner. His best form for us was definitely as a winger though although it didn’t last too long.

That's a very one dimensional statement (as usual).

I actually think AWB's forward runs and link up play has improved immeasurably since he joined us, but not enough to put him on a par with the best in the league, which is what we all want. We used to say this about Shaw, by the way.

Where he hasn't improved, ironically, is his defending, where he's caught wrong side or napping too often.

The hysterical mob are trying to portray him as a championship clogger, which is ridiculous, but he's got a lot of improving to do to make the cut. I really wanted Trippier to join, and he can't defend so that shows where my priorities lie.

I mentioned this last year and the opinion was much different among your fan base. What’s changed?

I said I didn't rate him at all when United signed him and was called a wum.

I'd go along with most of this, but don't think he has the technical ability or football intelligence to improve sufficiently.

Valencia at his worst was still hundred times better than AWB at his peak. Mind you Valencia at his worst was really bad especially under LVG at the end
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'd be more inclined to accept an opinion if it wasn't so outlandish and exaggerated.

But you keep coming back for more, Diafol

Buying him and Maguire for £125m has held this club back for years.

Maguire is too slow to fit a more pro-active and aggressive playstyle.
Were always too worried about exposing him. He's also mistake prone.

AWB is poor defensively and useless attack wise. He is an amazing 1 on 1 defender but that's the only attribute he excels at.

We could have brought trippier and nathan facking Ake and saved £80m. We'd be no worse off.

Add James and VDB to that and I am amazed people think Ole's recruitment has been great.

You might have opinions worth reading, but you dress them up in absolutes, don't throw any insight in there, present them as fact and get people's backs up. It's not just you, but there's an angry little knot that you're part of that could be part of an interesting debate if you weren't dead set on making everyone dislike you.

I think most posters on here are OK that others might disagree with their own opinions. After all its all just about opinions

Its the way you try to sell your own depressing opinions and thoughts about United as facts and truths that only you have been able to realise, especially to some people who it is clear that they know a lot more and who are a lot happier about being United supporters than you are,

You are probably just going through a bad time at the moment .

posted on 16/9/21

I know it shouldn't matter, but there's some of us been supporters a long time, been going a long time, been brought up a red, went to our first game at old trafford ya de ya de yah yeah yeah all that, yawn

It does rankle a bit when you get told you're stupid because of the way you support the club. You can take it if it's well argued and makes sense. This lot make you want to give up football if this is the future.

Im sorry but I dont agree this at alll. Luke shaw has always been an excellent defensive FB. Luke Shaw has always been a few levels above as an attacking FB and he was always been an brilliant defensive FB.

Fankly I thinkn itn is insusulting to to compare AWB with Luke Shaw. AWB has always been liability.

All the AWB defenders, if there are any. Are defending a player that is too cowardly to take up an attaking position.

He is simply not good enough, and destined for championship IMO. He has no future at United. Sooner he feck off the better.

Wow. I am not in particular a fan of AWB but this is just pure hyperbole.

I like the way you use social media buzzwords to make your comment even more idiotic.

I've never been a fan of AWB but this is unfair.

Its fairly clear AWB isn't given the same instructions as Luke Shaw when it comes to getting forward. It's been a pretty obvious pattern of play under Ole that we look to overload the left.

I don't doubt AWB would be fairly ineffective if he was given the same license to get forward. But it isn't because he is too 'cowardly'

Sorry I don’t agree with this at all. I don’t think any reasonable coach ask the FB go inside when he could go 20 yards out wide. His offensive positions doesn’t make any sense. He is literally hiding on the pitch.

Good for you. You clearly don’t understand what you see on the pitch. But then all of the posters of your ilk don’t.

Well yes, they do. They provide balance whilst the full back on the other side gets forward. Its a pretty basic principle which a lot of teams go by.

Unless you think the guy is completely ignoring his manager's instructions week in week out and still getting selected. In which case we might as well end this conversation here.

I do think he is hiding. He was generally picked up whenever he drifts wide. Given his reluctance to make an attacking move when he is in space, I think it is intentional.

Ok! you explain the his positioning when we are attacking. I’m not Ole’s biggest fan but I don’t think he is utterly ret@edged to ask him to take such positions.

What do you think?

Look, as I said I'm no fan of AWB but i think it's clear what our coaching staff see in him. He has good recovery pace and excellent ball-winning ability, which makes him a useful defensive weapon against teams that will look to hurt us on the counter. Which is most of them. And its why we station him where we do. You just saw a perfect example of it against Newcastle and Wolves the weekends gone - where we were quite rightly wary of the threat that the likes of Trincao, Traore, Almiron and Saint Max posed. (Note where Luke Shaw was whilst AWB was making a goal-line clearance against Wolves - it isn't by accident)

My opinion is though (and I hope its one that our coaching staff are starting to share) is that all of this is offset by his deficiencies when he is on the ball, which causes the team problems.

But really, it isn't as simple as 'he's a championship player and I dont know what we see in him!' As much as people like to think they are, the guys in charge of the first team are actually not completely clueless about football.

Michael Carrick's one of the most intelligent footballers I've ever had the pleasure of watching. Rolls Royce of a player. Why does everyone think he's suddenly turned into a ficko because he's part of our setup
