Man City owners are worth approx £23b.

Newcastle owners are worth £320b!

FFP should be interesting.

Just posted an article on this without seeing yours.

I wouldn’t say I’m envious as I know exactly how odious the current Saudi regime is through my work and I would never want our club to be owned by them - but yeah if they pump in the kind of money that they potentially could then we are definitely going to be pushed a lot further down the pecking order.

Just heard on the radio that because Ashley has been running Newcastle on a shoestring basically for the past 3yrs this will give the new owners freedom to do whatever they want - signings, wages etc. Without falling foul of FFP.

The transfer windows may about to go absolutely mental. We will proper suffer as a result. Typical. Enic will have another excuse to say the market has been skewed badly by this lol

Oh a hundred per cent - for the Levy excuse factory this is manna from heaven.

Gone are the days of local lads done good that brought glory to their clubs (Jack Walker etc) as soon as Abramovich bought Chelsea it became a whole new era altogether.

I just want to see the club win and win big. Not a league cup every 20 or so years. Sorry but I don't care who owns the club as long as they are ambitious.

Sadly owning a football club will not stop wars and famine and humans rights abuse whoever and wherever.

This argument is morally sound and the right attitude, but means diddly squat in football.

I agree with all you’ve said and I’ve always hated this argument in relation to Man City and PSG but at the same time of all the problematic potential owners out there the Saudis would definitely be at the bottom of my wish list.

This is actually entirely possible. Middle Eastern wealth absolutely loves statement acquisitions and given Kane’s current status they might well target him as the elite player they can most likely bring to the club to signal their intent.

Also absolutely no one is buying Spurs while we have the stadium debt over us and are being valued at 2.5 to 3.2 billion pounds. It’s just not happening.

At best/worst you might have a situation wherein we are purchased by an American owner looking to cash in on a potential London NFL franchise but if that’s the case we will all quickly pining for the good old days of ENIC.

I can’t see it being like the city take over or even the chelsea takeover.

Chelsea spent to get to the top but we’re already a decent side. They’ve now only spent what they earned going on 10 years.

City, I’m not sure how they get away with what they do but let’s assume their success means they also pay what the earn.

Newcastle with ffp, I’m not sure how they will be able to hzve that initial boost that chelsea and notably city had

Not sure about that. If you thought City’s owners were extravagant, then you ain’t seen nothing yet. Abu Dhabi royal family are pretty restraint when it comes to the Middle East. I’m not sure how much involvement the Saudi Royals have in this consortium but if they do then Newcastle will be going all out big time. Also a lot of this has to be contextualised within the framework of Saudi Arabia’s soft war with Qatar. I see no possible scenario where the new owners act with any kind of restraint.

Exactly

Also Mike Ashley (don't you love the guy lol) has given the new owners a good base and ability to smash it without worrying about FFP just yet it seems.

Well bring it on. It’s up to the governing bodies to check the legitimacy of it all.

Okay so it’s the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund that seems to be buying Newcastle - so yeah this is gonna be big, a lot bigger than City that’s for sure.

Isn't the Everton boss also absolutely minted? He's spoken of his frustration that the rules prevent him from ploughing his own money in. I don't think it's gonna be that easy for them.

But you're right, it's depressing. That's three doped clubs now. I don't regard United as doped as it was a combination of their form on the pitch and the timing of them becoming a special club just as the Premier League became a major money spinner. They exploited their dominance better than anyone but they're not doped. With Chelsea, City and Newcastle likely to bully their way to the top three every year, that leaves United, Liverpool and whoever else is brave enough to scrap it out for the last CL spot.

The Premier League is doomed. FFP has to be more strict. We cannot let this continually happen.

I usually find myself in agreement with you but not on this one.

FFP was a joke and just a tool of the traditional big clubs to protect and serve the status quo.

I’m more than happy it’s effectively dead.

Doesn't that then mean that those of us owned by the 'poor' will have to wait for a change of ownership before we can see any real success? That could be decades away or it may never happen.

I agree that FFP is a problem in that it preserves clubs as they stand rather than level the playing field but I don't know how else you do it. There needs to be some regulation otherwise what we will end up with, given the financial disparity between Newcastle's owners and even the City owners, is a one club league. In time they'll win the lot. City are close to it now. Newcastle will obliterate the competition if there are no financial restrictions in place.

They won't attract top, top names straight away. They will get some ageing top players and some trying to re-invent themselves but have previously been big names. Maybe Bale, Hazard, Coutinho, Griezmann etc. Mixed with some more up and coming but not quite top names yet like Schick, Doku, etc. Maybe some Chelsea/City fringe players.

The top, top players will wait until they see where it is going.

Leicester? They've won a couple of trophies in the last 6 years. Newcastle will no doubt be the next PL club to win one before us.

Yeah so basically what happened with City. They didn’t start attracting the really elite players until about year three or four.

In any case once the new owners get a foothold on things it will not be the players opting for Newcastle but their agents directing them there. It’s only a matter of time.

Isn’t Pep leaving City at the end of the season?

Wouldn’t be at all surprised if he ends up at Newcastle. I reckon City and PSG have 2 seasons to win the CL before it is beyond them
