I don't think it matters what the fans know of Ange recent record we were talking about boards appointing managers on the back of previous roles
Ange was obviously picked for the fact he done an outstanding job with Austrailia then done a decent job in Japan I don't see Villa appointing Gerrard on the back of 1 good season in Scotland
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Id argue he has had more than one good season. One succesful season in terms of honours) but he improved that gers team week on week until he got them into a position where they could win go undefeated in the league and get to to the latter stages in europe (and thats here the a lot of clubs will be looking at his job in europe)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Id argue that every season he has been at rangers he has been good
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Seriously - do you really think he would have survived the end of the 2019-20 season the way rangers were playing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He did survive it and without any real pressure to his job whatsoever.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Aye only cos the season was pulled on the weekend of the Glasgow Derby when even Rangers fans were expecting a total doing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not sure any of us were expecting a doing and the season wasn't called then. There was zero pressure on Gerrard's job at any point other than some bizarre narrative some Celtic fans have made up to make themselves feel better.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Incredible revisionism
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What's the revisinism? I go to the games every week, there was no fan pressure. There was no board pressure. Who was it that was putting his job under pressure?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
memba the banners, memba the protests outside our stadium......
----------------------------------------------------------------------
last 4 games before season was pulled (and it was) draw with St Johnstone, beat by hamilton at ibrox, dumped out of cup by hearts at 1/4 final stage and a 1-0 win against Ross County. Aye those empty seats at full-time were really chanting his name.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm guessing you picked 4 games rather than 5 because that would mean including beating Braga in Portugal
Regardless you have given 2 defeats by way of saying Gerrard's job was saved by COVID. There was 0 risk to his job.

They're not looking to win trophies any time soon either POV. I don't think anyone would suggest it took 3 seasons for Gerrard to make significant improvements, they happened almost instantly.
If he had the same impact on Villa they won't have any concerns on being relegated.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Come on, man. You’re smarter than that. I’m not suggesting winning trophies-I’m talking about staying in the league.
I’m not saying he didn’t make improvements in his first season, but he got a budget that dwarfed the rest of the league bar Celtic, and got them from third to second-in a league that’s deemed to be a 2 horse race.
He got a fair degree of leeway for his first couple of seasons that he’s not going to get if he goes to AV is the point.
how many empty seats were there at end of Livi game.... was Anges job under threat, pressure from the fans?
No banners, no protests no mas push for Gerrard to be sacked regardless how you remember it in your head
Didn't really think about that Ange comment did you (check out Celtic's results before that game
Anyway my original point still stands:
Seriously - do you really think he would have survived the end of the 2019-20 season the way rangers were playing.

Not sure what leeway he wouldn't get. He achieved every metric set for him in his first season. At somewhere like Villa the ask won't be to win the league but he will have similar targets of improvement. Season 2 is probably the only season Gerrard didn't meet the criteria of targets laid out and even then the progress on the park was evident.

Will the Villa fans have a round of applause for him in the 8th minute of any game? Just for solidarity, not because he was having a mare at that time

Heard a little anecdote that shows the level of planning Ange goes in to even down to the sleeping patterns of the players.
On the away trip to Hungary he was having a group meeting with the forwards on the evening they arrived.
He asked Kyogo what time he wanted his wake up call placed for. Kyogo replied 8am.
He then asked Jota who replied Wake Me Up Before Kyogo.

doesnt matter your using the fans leaving the staium early as an indicator that he was under massive pressure to save his job. I used the react same rules to flip it to Ange, at home to Livi at full time the stadium was half full if lucky and boos reverberated round... did that mean Ange's job was at risk? No it didnt and same applies with Gerrard

I mean based on his first couple of seasons at Rangers, if he replicated that at Villa what leeway would he need? He hit every objective that we were looking for in season 1, if he did the same at Villa then they wouldnt get relegated.

Really?
As for him losing his job season before last. Not sure it was imminent but the atmosphere at the Hamilton game and at full time sort of painted a picture that plenty had given up.
I still maintain COVID was the best thing to happen to Gerrard and Rangers.

I wasnt expecting a doing from Celtic at all.
Quite the opposite. I was looking forward to it as an opportunity to get our season back on track and put a wee bit of pressure on celtic.
If we had won our game in hand and the two OF games the gap was down to 4 points.
Apart from the serial pessimists I personally didnt know anybody quaking in fear from Celtic.
We hadnt become a bad team. We just werent playing htat well or getting results.
FFS even against Hamilton when we lost 1-0 we had nearly 80% possession, over 30 attempts on goal and something like 15 corners to Hamiltons 1.
We made one mistake at the back and they nicked it. Well done to them
But certainly no reason to suddenly expect a 'total doing' from Celtic.

I don’t think you can make the same comparisons between his time at rangers in that way though. He was appointed at rangers before the season had ended, giving him a full close season to make changes. He was given a budget that dwarfed 10 other teams. More questions would have been asked if he hadn’t made improvements.

Think people forget we played another 2 games after that and there was no lasting effect of that result. We beat Ross County that weekend then played Leverkusen the following week. People cling on to it but there was no appetite for Gerrard to move on outside the internet.
In terms his season one objectives it would be mental to think anyone was expecting him to win anything given what he took over. His 3 objectives were fairly well discussed at that time:
1. Second place (we had been third the 2 seasons before)
2. Cut the gap on Celtic (he did, to 10 points)
3. Group stages of the Europa League (he did)
For good measure he also won the first league OF game in 10 years which was a huge landmark. There was no discussion or expectation to win a trophy in season one. Season 2 yes, a cup was one of his objectives and he failed to do so.
There was no discussion or expectation to win a trophy in season one
Sorry mate, not buying that,
Especially considering he didn’t even make a final to season 2. In fact his only final from 6 possible attempts.

You can say you aren't buying it if you like but it's the case. I think people forget how bad it was in the 2 seasons before with us back in the top league and the Celtic team under Rodgers we were up against. There was zero ask to win anything especially given he was a novice Manager with no experience, the priority was just to regain some credibility.

In his first season? Call it BS if you like, it's the case. I'd be the first to concede that in season two he fell short of a couple of metrics and winning a trophy was definitely one of them, but season one was a free hit. You won't find many people at Rangers who saw his first season as a failure, quite the opposite.

He got a fair degree of leeway for his first couple of seasons that he’s not going to get if he goes to AV is the point.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not sure what leeway he wouldn't get. He achieved every metric set for him in his first season. At somewhere like Villa the ask won't be to win the league but he will have similar targets of improvement. Season 2 is probably the only season Gerrard didn't meet the criteria of targets laid out and even then the progress on the park was evident.

how many empty seats were there at end of Livi game.... was Anges job under threat, pressure from the fans?
No banners, no protests no mas push for Gerrard to be sacked regardless how you remember it in your head
Didn't really think about that Ange comment did you (check out Celtic's results before that game
Anyway my original point still stands:
Seriously - do you really think he would have survived the end of the 2019-20 season the way rangers were playing.

I think that’s a bit silly, so none of his objectives in season 1 were win the league or a cup?
Really?
As for him losing his job season before last. Not sure it was imminent but the atmosphere at the Hamilton game and at full time sort of painted a picture that plenty had given up.
I still maintain COVID was the best thing to happen to Gerrard and Rangers.

Aye only cos the season was pulled on the weekend of the Glasgow Derby when even Rangers fans were expecting a total doing.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
I wasnt expecting a doing from Celtic at all.

Is that not fairly obvious though? If they don’t get relegated, then he’ll still be there next season??

Sorry mate, not buying that,
Especially considering he didn’t even make a final to season 2. In fact his only final from 6 possible attempts.

Exactly that was my point. But not sure what has taken place in his time at Rangers to suggest he would need any leeway at Villa. He will get far more patience there than up here.

flip that round and I think its a bit silly to suggest that in season 1 gerrards objective was to win the league.
Coming up against Rodgers settled celtic winning side,
team finished 3rd year before and he inherited possibly the worst rangers team of all time. No it certainly wasnt his obective to win the league in his first season.

I’m not saying his sole objective but he didn’t even challenge us really in season 1. Our manager left at the drop of a hat in February and we coasted it still.
If you’re saying he wasn’t given an objective to win a trophy or at least get to 2 finals in the domestic competitions then I’m calling it as bullsheidt.

In his first season? Call it BS if you like, it's the case. I'd be the first to concede that in season two he fell short of a couple of metrics and winning a trophy was definitely one of them, but season one was a free hit. You won't find many people at Rangers who saw his first season as a failure, quite the opposite.
