Is this the guy who was complaining about being racially discriminated against? Facking brilliant if it is

Why? Whatever he’s done doesn’t make what happened to him any less racist.
Of course he’s anti-Semitic.

Hypocrisy, double standards?
Bigotry is present in every corner of society. Whites v whites, non whites v non whites. It's there. By all accounts it's not right.
Any treatment that that demeans a person based on colour or religion is wrong.
Azeem Rafiq was wrong to use the term "Jew" to mean it in a derogatory term. Two mates "bantering" is no different to a white guy playfully calling a team mate by the "P" word.
Banter or no banter, there is no place for casual bigotry because sooner or later that casual nature becomes blatant and intolerable. Rafiq through his testimony suffered intolerable treatment based on nothing else but the colour of his skin, his career suffered because he was not given the opportunities his white colleagues got.
Rafiq was an idiot bantering in the casual nature as a youth. All casual bigotry is idiotic but a line must be drawn when someone suffers materially, mentally, or physically because they are being marginalised based on race, gender or sexuality.
I agree, but lets not lose sight of the fact Yorkshire made him their youngest and first asian captain in the history.
thats not meant to appease any trauma he took from the 'banter' or off color remarks, but his talents were clearly fostered and promoted at the club.
he also, having left them, chose to return to them years later to continue his career.
his comments hidden behind 'I was young and immature' fly in the face of allegations made about balance at a similar age and when he was being paraded as mature beyond his years as Yorkshires youngest captain

Just read that the jewish person that received the message from Rafiq 10 years ago has been done for sending offensive tweets to a Buddhist 12 years ago. Looks like that's Rafiq is in the clear, following the England team being cleared. Anyone got anything on the Buddhist?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
yeah he sexually abused a hindu monk 12 years ago so that puts the Jewish guy in the clear. no word on the hindu though.
It’s not really about Azeem solely as other Asians were getting mistreated by a system that protected the white guys from being punished for the horrific things they say.
The right wing media will love this as it gets the story of racist white folks off the front page and gives them an excuse to continue a white supremacy agenda without as much backlash had Azeem not make these mistakes but the bigger picture is that the system that allowed Asian people to be treated with prejudice did exist and people did suffer and hopefully now it gets torn down and fixed.
Not that I'm condoning what he did but wasn't the anti Semitic comment on a private message? That doesn't make it right of course and is still racism but it's not exactly the same as being bullied constantly in front of your peers for years is it? There's levels to this.
However it's not a good look for sure and doesn't do his case any favours whatsoever.
I hate Cricket anyway. I'd rather go to work than go watch a full day of cricket.
agree Robb but there's more issues here than just 'white supremacy' as you put it.
Rafiq during the time he felt the effects of racism was happy to also join in on racism directed at others.
that has nothing to do with an agenda of white supremacy and deserves to be investigated and reported without accusations of white bias simply because it has been uncovered at a time he is trying to draw attention to other issues

No one is saying is saying otherwise. The media here is a third party in all of this - an element who will revel in an opportunity to further their agenda. What Azeem did was wrong and he deserves all the scorn that comes his way but in no way does that let any of the racists at Yorkshire cricket off the hook. The two situations are separate and should be treated as such but with the way the media are going in on this sadly it’s only going to validate the prejudices of the racist white folk in the UK who already felt that the allegations from Azeem were just a storm in a teacup.

Did his remark materially, physically or mentally damage or demean anyone?
If Rafiq was called Steve Jones and was non Asian he would have progressed in the game. It's quite obvious Rafiq was prevented from progress by Yorkshire CC from top down beyond a certain age because he was Asian.
In fact look at the total Asian participation level at Yorkshire CC at a certain age group and then look at how many progress to First Class cricket. It is ridiculously low. Something is amiss and it is not lack of talent.
yawn all you would like Robb, you seem to be obsessed with swatting aside what he did in favor of condemning those he pointed out.
he has been shown up to have committed racist offenses while at Yorkshire.
he has shone a light on other racists at Yorkshire in their treatment of him and others.
the net result of this, is that sadly Yorkshire has just been shown up as an extremely toxic environment.
But making racists remarks himself while at Yorkshire means he is sadly just as bad as those he has made allegations against.
doesn't change the overall view of Yorkshire.

Seriously RDD, stop talking. You’re a clueless idiot when it comes to stuff like this.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Cricketers, are people. There are good, and there are bad. It turns out Rafiq is one of those bad guys he has complained about, and deserves to be punished once the investigation into crixket is done.
Its no more.l complicated than that mate.

agree Robb but there's more issues here than just 'white supremacy' as you put it.
Rafiq during the time he felt the effects of racism was happy to also join in on racism directed at others.
that has nothing to do with an agenda of white supremacy and deserves to be investigated and reported without accusations of white bias simply because it has been uncovered at a time he is trying to draw attention to other issues
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No one is saying is saying otherwise.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
yes. the racists at Yorkshire.
where was Rafiq when he made these racist remarks? Yorkshire.
to me all this does is move him from the victim category to the co-defendant category in what is clearly a toxic environment at that club of which he was also once a captain.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Did his remark materially, physically or mentally damage or demean anyone?

It’s amusing/sad to see Piers Morgan go balls deep in this trying to get his mate Michael Vaughan off the hook now.

Piers is the biggest right wing moron going. Not suprised.

yeah I mean his constant injuries and body breaking down in the season while he still stood in as captain several times had absolutely nothing to do with his career not panning out at all.

So you’re saying you’re more concerned about the offender rather than those being offended?
That’s part of the reason we still aren’t having a properly mature debate about racism.
