Two things have not changed over the last 48 hours.

1) Yorkshire CCC is institutionally racist.

2) Azeem Rafiq is an anti-semetic hypocrite.

The two are not connected and two wrongs don't make a right.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Number 2 has changed, or did you know he was anti semitic 48 hours ago ?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I didnt even know who he was 48 hrs ago. It isn't about me. 48 hrs ago his Facebook account proved that he was anti-semetic. He still is and now he is famousr and people have investigated his socilal media output he has now had to apologise for that today.

Number 2 has not changed. He just got found out.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The opinion of him has changed from victim to part of the problem.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
For some maybe.

Not me.

The problem in question is Yorkshire CCC being racist.

The fact that he is an anti-semetic is a new question that has nothing to do with the Yorkshire CCC question.

They probably are anti semetic, too. It would'nt surprise me.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So you don't think Rafiq was part of the problem at the club?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
no.

Unless there were also a group of jewish cricketers at YCCC trying to establish themselves, who Rafiq and his mates gave a hard time to in the dressing room and on coach trips. But I havent heard anyone say that there were, or even make allegations against YCCC that they were being discriminated against.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

What about those that chose not to pursue a career in the game due to the underlying racism ?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The underlying racism that’s only just been exposed and Yorkshire initially denied? How many soothsayers do you think were potentially put off?

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Rafiq said his kids wouldnt play cricket professionally be aise of his experience. Not a stretch to think there are others who wont because of the experience of the others.

this is new one, the old if a tree falls in the wood and no one is around does it make a sound excuse.

no jewish players at YCC means that its impossible for anti-semitic comments to be part of a wider racism issue.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

are there Jewish players at YCCC?

You tell me, I have no idea.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You dont have to be Jewish to be against anti semitism.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
The income poverty rate varies substantially between ethnic groups: Bangladeshis (65%), Pakistanis (55%) and black Africans (45%) have the highest rates; black Caribbeans (30%), Indians (25%), white Other (25%) and white British (20%) have the lowest rates.

Children in Bangladeshi and Pakistani households were the most likely to live in low income and material deprivation out of all ethnic groups

Soz to prove the opposite of your point being true. Time to wake up maybe?

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Tell me about it. My kids regularly come home saying that being told about white privilege makes them feel as inferior and demeaned as Rafiq would have felt at Yorkshire, or a Pakistani child wanting to get into cricket would have felt reading about Rafiq’s experiences and what they have to potentially look forward to, regardless of what they choose to do, or thinking about how a Jewish child would have felt reading the tweet that surfaced today. It’s horrendous for them being told they’re likely not to suffer institutional racism and they’re likely to have better opportunities in life if they choose to take them and I have absolutely no idea how they’ll cope not being able to use jokes about other peoples ethnic origins as banter, I really draw the line at that….

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Are you for real?

How about black and people of colour being raped / their countries pillaged / downtrodden for centuries by their imperial masters?

Even now, in the 21st Century, they are fighting racism that's deeply ingrained in institutions!

Such a clueless post!

White people are getting absolutely rinsed at the minute. Kids getting told they have ‘white privilege’ when in fact they are statistically the most deprived. It’s time people wake up and realise every ethnic group have their racists and bigots.

Spot on, Barry.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's coming from a massive white guy as well btw
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How big are we talking here?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The length of the now cancelled eastern wing of the HS2 big!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I weigh 71kg. Which is just slightly less than the average British white child. The impoverished little chubsters.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

That's like 11 stones?

Average british kid is not 11 stones ffs, Barry!

😂

Is this the guy who was complaining about being racially discriminated against? Facking brilliant if it is
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Why? Whatever he’s done doesn’t make what happened to him any less racist.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But it makes him a racist too. An anti Semitic hypocrite. The guy should be thought of no differently to any of his vilified abusers.

Some of the comments on here in defence of him are laughable.

Why are you stunned? Do people selectively read news reports?

It was obvious from Gary Ballance response, and Rafiq himself that there was a culture where certain white people made racial remarks, and Rafiq himself also took part and made comments the other way.

When select white people do something wrong it screams institutional racism, if minorities make racial comments, they're just being stupid and it isn't their fault.

Like people quoting deprivation stats as though that is down to institutional racism. Asians make up 30 percent of all medical jobs in the UK, the best paid jobs, despite making up only 7 percent of the population.

Shocking that if people work hard, they can get into well paid jobs despite being from a minority background.

Not really. white kids make up the highest number of kids in poverty, It’s that simple. The fact remains, that teaching in schools ‘white privilege’ is dangerous as well as racist. My Mrs has worked with kids in the most deprived areas of Leeds and Bradford for years and the highest volume of kids needing care, are white.

Non of this takes away that racism is still a massive problem. We are tackling it the wrong way, by punishing the wrong people. It’s time people wake up and this is a small wake up call.
