Doherty's best moment in a Spurs shirt is still that joke video he made when he first signed about the Arsenal tweet.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The hands “sorry” tweet video yeh ?definitely his best moment
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah
There's not one moment you can call upon while wearing a shirt on the pitch.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeh Matt Doherty has truly been so bad, that I would rather Aurier there and that’s saying something. Looks like Wolves are dumb enough to buy him back
----------------------------------------------------------------------
As I've said before, our right backs got worse with each one, up to Doherty. You never thought one was going to be worse than Aurier but it happened.
At least we have broken the trend now with Emerson.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Have we? I'm not so sure.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Of course. Emerson is certainly not as bad as Doherty. He already proved that in the Palace game alone.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, I'm not convinced, never have been. He might be a good left back but he's not a wing back for me. He's certainly stronger defensively than Aurier but nowhere near it going forward, which as a wing back is problem. He rarely fancies himself one on one with the opposing LB and his delivery is pretty woeful. It's no coincidence that Conte is actively looking to strengthen that position. I think he's right. We need more dynamism and attacking intent. The wing back role is crucial in this system and for me he's yet to convince. Baffled by some fans that think he's a great improvement. Absolutely staggered by that. Ironically, if Aurier were still at the club, I'm almost certain he'd be playing every week under Conte. His biggest problem was his defensive lack of focus and stupidity. As a wing back it's less of an issue as you have cover. How we've got from Walker to Trippier to Aurier to Doherty and now to Emerson is just an insanely poor level of recruitment.
Early days for Emerson. He has been pretty solid defensively for us. In other news Liverpool's training ground is closed throwing into doubt their semi final against Woolwich

There have been a lot of very poor players over the years but you have to also add in the context of what they cost.
Dean Richards (RIP) is well up there given he cost us what at the time was a hefty fee of nearly £9m as I recall, and played about 70 odd games in 4 seasons, during which time he was abysmal.
That period when it was him and Gary Doherty at the back for us is probably the worst era and Spurs team in living memory for me. You look at the team that flirted with relegation in the late 90’s and there were actually decent players in there - but that early 00’s era before Jol took over was an absolute shambles consisting of appallingly bad players like Gardner, Doherty and Acimovic and big name flops like Richards and Rebrov.
Absolutely shocking bunch of players, wtf was going on at the club back then.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Worst we've ever been in my lifetime was in 1994 under Ardiles. We finished 15th, 3 points from the relegation zone. I can still remember that feeling of dread when we had to face Oldham away. If we'd lost we probably would have gone down but Vinny Samways rescued us with a win to save our status. Compared to that, the team Doherty was in at the turn of the millennium was practically Pep's Barcelona.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yep that side was abysmal, Walker in goal, Austin at Right back, Nethercott and Scott at CB and Justin Edinburgh (RIP) - Edinburgh was average, which meant he was miles better than the rest.
My word, the goals we used to concede

Edinburgh will always be overestimated by me, purely because he played in that cup final in 91. He probably was average (it's hard to tell as I was only 12 at the time) and there's no doubt Gazza and Lineker do most of the heavy lifting when it comes to fond associations.
It's weird how that tends to happen. I remember thinking the England team in 1990 was brilliant but actually there were a lot of average players like Mark Wright and Steve Bull in that squad. When you're a kid you don't map out a players level over a career, you assess them as a snapshot in time. The same will be true of the fans around the same age I was for England's recent run to the final. They'll think Philips as world class or Stones as a legend of the game but he barely gets a game for City. I miss that feeling. Sterling for them probably represents what Platt did for me in that tournament.
Worst that I have seen in my lifetime include these shockers:
Barry Daines
Gollini
Bobby Mimms
Tramazzini
Toda
Doherty
Ian Moores
Gerry Armstrong
Kevin Scott

for example... Ndombele is a total flop... but nowhere near one of spurs' worst players... infact he is probably one of the most talented we have had, but his pitch output nowhere near justifies the huge fee.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ndombele will be filed above Adel Taraabt in years to come. But he is no where near the most talented player we have ever had. That is a big statement. Not fit to lace Gazza's boots.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
when a player like Bale comes out and says that Ndombele does some of the most ridiculous things he has ever seen in training, then that indicates that on ability alone, he is amongst the most talented players that we have had at the club....
obviously this counts for nothing as we dont win points in training.
also, I am too young to remember Gazza at spurs.... I am talking about the modern era, or at least players I remember.. which will be from about 1995 onwards.

What??? He was terrible. Just because he was in a shiiiit team, doesn't mean he gets away scott free. Loads of the ones we've mentioned here were in that truly awful era between around 1994-2003 so the same applies to Dozzell. I actually don't remember him being a squad player either. As far as I can remember, he was a first team regular. He was a sub a few times but he played nearly 100 times for us over a 4 year period. That's not squad player territory. Then you have to factor in his transfer fee. He was signed in 1992 for £1.9m. To put that into context, we signed Jurgen Klinsmann 2 years later for £2m. He was an expensive flop, whichever way you slice it.
Sorry…………..it as another Jason for me.

Made me cringe when you made that statement. So from 1995 you cannot think of more talented player than Ndombele? Modric? VDV? Dembele? Berba? Ginola? You know players who played week in week out for 90 minutes because their manager's trusted them.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Edinburgh will always be overestimated by me, purely because he played in that cup final in 91.

Kevin Scott
Not keen on Winks or Dele Ali... dread them starting these days...

for example...

Special mention to the mid-90s dark era at Spurs - I give you Mr Jason Dozzell.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
ah mate that is harsh ! he was a CM squad player and was about right for the level we were at the time.. which was completely mediocre.

Made me cringe when you made that statement. So from 1995 you cannot think of more talented player than Ndombele? Modric? VDV? Dembele? Berba? Ginola? You know players who played week in week out for 90 minutes because their manager's trusted them.

Just a massive khunt with a huge chip on his shoulder about Spurs. The guy was celebrating Sterling’s last gasp goal against us in the CL quarter final like he had just won the lottery, the look on his face when it was ruled out was priceless.
All he ever did for us was score that fluke goal at Portman road

It is weird and unusual for a retired player to hate a club he played for, has Cundy ever explained why he dislikes Spurs so much?
